Finding cabins like this with little to no vandalism are very rare. This cabin was extra special and was definitely gifted with a woman's touch.

Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on KZfaq!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...
WARNING
Abandoned mines and ruined structures have many hazards and can severely injure or even kill you. Do not attempt to copy or re-enact situations or scenarios seen in this video. Stay Out and Stay Alive: • Gly Says... STAY OUT S...

Win some, lose some. However, I would say that the worst day of traveling around, observing spectacular scenery, seeing old cabins, checking big (or even little) mine shafts, is still better than the best day at the office. And tell bucket to get with it, no need to frown and be grouchy.

In Wyoming that house would have been a "line shack" they were often occupied year around, and if they could be resupplied fairly easy sometimes a married couple lived in them. The woman's job would have been cooking for cowboys working in the area.

Well, shucks, Gly... Bottom of the ninth, 2 on and 2 out... can't always knock it out of the park. On the other hand, Martha Stewart's cabin was a fun change. As for the other thing you mentioned.... I'm well versed in the operation... said education provided by the U.S. Army, at the resort location of DakTo, Vietnam. (We didn't do any mine exploration; all the holes in the ground were occupied by the NVA). A 55-gallon drum cut off about 12-inches high and about 3-inches of diesel or JP-4 in it. When the aforementioned 'container' is fairly well encumbered with "Solids," pull it out the back of the... "house," and set it on fire. (Remember to stand upwind)!! After said 'solids' are returned to their 'gaseous' or 'plasma' state - and the fire's out, refill with diesel or JP-4, and repeat as necessary...................

Gly, just a piece of advice from an old guy as well with major back issues. You gotta loose the gut and strengthen your core or your back ends up having to not only stabilize your spine but handle whatever work load you are doing. I was blown up in a IED attack in Iraq in 2009 and spent the better part of a year healing. My physical therapist taught me a lot about muscle mechanics. In order to keep your back healthy, you have to strengthen your core and leg muscles to assist in the movement and stress we put our back under. It's only going to get worse as we age and I dont know about you but I want to be able to do the things I like to do long into old age. Hope you decide to take the advice and make the lifestyle changes necessary to improve your mobility. 👍

Look at that long & lonely rode and all the others that you have driven on. Sure the scenery is tremendous, but you have to enjoy it all within your own thinking. You're like being a "one man band", in many repects, so you take us with you and talk to us....we're your partner. At 10:07, I noticed the cow dung, s'pose they liked the shade of that cabin"s roof. The cabin with pens & such for sustenance was really "out in the boonies". Guess your back is your "Archelle's Heel", we all have one....huh? Glad to be along with you on one of your re-con days. Lets call it "a day in the life of "Coolness". Too bad for how you got "skunked" with what seemed to be an adet at the end, but we see that our "explorer" is still a happy man. Waiting 'til next Sat. to see you again.

Every cat and every dog and all other animals stretch when they're getting up from sleep. I do a couple other things and I can still reach my toenails.

Nice, I was up in those same hills exploring a couple years ago, I came in from Schurz on Double Springs Rd, I had studied google earth looking at old mine and ranch sites and marking their GPS location on google maps. Most mines we found looked to be around the 1930s, some newspapers we found were from 1938. I never did go as far east as where you are since I spent one night up there at an old mine location and the left on the 839 that goes into Hawthorne but the entire time I was up in that area we only saw two other people and one was grading the road and the other was driving out to pick the guy up that was grading the road. I plan to pass by that area again in a few weeks, maybe I will try to find your cabin since I know about where you are it should be pretty easy.

The pit there is (or was, from '88-'95) the Sante Fe Mine. Located in a large geologic trough roughly aligned with the highly active tectonic boundary of the Pacific and North American plates along the border of NV and CA, it produced about 11 metric tons of gold and 22 metric tons of silver. At today's prices that would be nearly $680,000,000, although gold was worth considerably less during its time of operation. That whole region is/was incredibly rich in all sorts of minerals belching forth from the bowels of the earth. Which is good for us, because it means lots of old places to explore. :)

impressive how well this site has survived the decades amazing what happens when people leave stuff alone eh!. if you had the time it would be a kinda an interesting test to pop back to the kit failure mine and see if anything fails a second time now that would be creepy/interesting!

Gly, please do us all one favor, don’t throw a dart at a wall map, you will likely end up in northern Iowa somewhere! I was also considering how there is never any boathouses near these mines, but perhaps it is the wrong neighborhood.
