If you don't think the question writers of Jeopardy would research that, you've never watched Jeopardy. Alex usually has all variations of acceptable answers on his note cards. And on the off occasion when a contestant gives a correct variation of an answer that the writers didn't think of, they correct the score during the commercial break and Alex announces it next segment. They've accepted far stranger variations of correct answers than a well-known superhero's alter ego.

I wonder if they would have taken that answer since it's also correct.

That's how pretty much all trivia games are. There's a reason "trivia" has the same root word as "trivial". The only games that really gets in depth about information I've come across are Um, Actually and QI (though you can guess your way through things often, plus it's not super serious since winners don't get anything). What would you expect though? "This was written on the second line of the fifth page of the third chapter of 1993 volume of Cormen's Introduction to Algorithms"? The tricky part is that "as much stuff as possible" covers a ton of material. There's hundreds or thousands of years of music, films/TV, books, art, history, science, etc from all the around the world that could theoretically be drawn from. It would literally be impossible for a single person to have time to consume that much media if they spent every second of every day of their life reviewing everything beyond a surface level. So you have to be strategic about what to spend time learning about and also be able to pick up on subtle clues that make the answer more obvious.

There's a pretty big difference between being smart and knowing a bunch of random shit.

Ken Jennings himself has said there are certain aspects of common knowledge that you should know well enough that'll help you win because theyre just testing the basics. The big thing is US presidents, years and the order, because no matter what they'll ask you about presidents, the clues will either give you the year or what # president they were. So it doesnt matter what the clue itself is about just so long as you know years and the numbers.

Well maybe not to people who don't know Marvel at all. I can guarantee unless they watched Netflix, no one would have known Daredevil.
