Agreed. Before any reasonable company expects an employee to perform a job wearing a virtual reality headset for 8+ hours every day, substantial innovation needs to take place.

Ahhh where's your sense of vision. They will simulate the experience of actual light from the real world by firing light directly into your eyes which will trick them into thinking they are viewing something far away.

Imagine it will involve mirrors, because when you look into mirrors you are looking an infinite distance away.

I agree. I love virtual reality in general. But, for non-entertainment purposes, the headsets will need to shrink in size and become lighter in weight to garner wider-market appeal. That will come with time. Apple and Facebook are definitely seeking ways to innovate in those areas.

There are Virtual Reality experiences related to education, fitness, marketplaces, job training, etc. Augmented Reality can be used for some of those use cases as well.

When looking at the predictions from multiple sources in the past, there's a theme that I consistently noticed. Many predictions are overly aggressive without consideration to other factors that would affect rollout. For example, we still don't have level 5 autonomous vehicles and streets with sensors for those types of automobiles. And Science Fiction movies like 2001: Space Odyssey and Demolition Man had no obligation to be halfway legitimate with their timelines. Almost every article about general artificial intelligence (that takes itself seriously) makes sure to outline the considerable obstacles that must be overcome to make it possible. The most advanced language model can't even pass a Turing Test yet, which would indicate human-level intelligence from that one perspective. And even when that happens, an AI would still need to have the ability to use strategy, reason, make judgments under certainty, plan, etc. in a myriad of situations and in ways that aren't obviously orchestrated by a machine when scrutinized. There are a lot of videos and articles out there from anonymous sources that hype up AI. But, do you know of a reputable and recent poll or survey that indicates that a majority of experts in the artificial intelligence field believe general artificial intelligence will emerge before 2040 or even before 2050?
