Lifelong Packers fan, I can tell you that Lambeau and its playing surface is a point of pride, especially among fans who've toured the stadium and gotten educated on all the care and work that has gone into building and maintaining it. It's the way football was intended to be played, and we're proud our team maintains the tradition and integrity of the game where others have tried to cut corners.

Except Lambeau is not 100% grass. It's a hybrid. And you are sitting on quite the elitist high horse with that last statement. Those other teams aren't cutting corners. The Real Madrid is the way to do it moving forward or similar to Tottenham if a stadium has the space. Most of our stadiums are surround by parking lots so there's zero excuse to have retractable fields. BTW, the grass they bring in for the international soccer events are not all that great and there's been much complaining about the system specifically at Met Life which is why the will install grass there and not lay over the turf for 2026.

They could in the CBA if they really wanted but it’s always just about the money. The NFL has the ability to suspend and fine them for any action they deem negative to the NFL. I remember in the 80’s the Jets playing the patriots in New England. The turf was so bad it seemed every time the jets went there multiple guys both sides included were lost to ACL or MCL. No reason NOT to have grass. Artificial stuff good for patios, not pros. Yet surface replaced with real grass for upcoming World Cup. League less caring about players then they are about surface. Even if cost higher so what, Losing guys to surface injuries is worse then spending more money on safety. I am nit saying guys still will not get injured but at least grass and dirt give while artificial does not.

Anyone who thinks Don Goodeloni & the NFL high muckety-mucks are actually focused on "Player Safety" is delusional. They have proven time & time again over the past 20+ years that all they care about is doing just enough to keep their law suit liabilities down & their bottom lines up. Anything they do is purely, 100%, for appearances. Whether it be adding more over seas games, expanding the schedule (while keeping the roster numbers down), games on more days of the week (less rest time/higher turn around time) - it's all about the $$$. It's only been over the past 7-8 years that they have really put a focus on developing better helmets & enforcing their use and THAT was simply a function of their nearly one BILLION dollar concussion settlement. Anyone expecting the Billionaire's Club members (aka Owners) to fork over money retrofitting turf fields to natural grass is kidding themselves. They are willing to pay Rodgers $18.7 million per SNAP this year, when a turf field would have cost them $5-10m. Shows you where their priorities are. The only thing worse than the NFL's officiating is their track record on player safety.

The idea of completely banning turf is kind of absurd, especially for a sport that's played in the winter. The MLB still has long had turf in Tampa, which has a fixed roof, and Toronto, where it is too cold to maintain grass consistently. More recently, turf is making a comeback in the South, where it has been added in Phoenix, Miami, and Texas. Again, for the opposite reason as Toronto, it is too difficult and expensive to maintain grass consistently in the summer heat. Now for all these reasons, it would be next to impossible to ban artificial turf in the NFL, especially in the North where grass stops growing in October, and in fixed roof stadiums which doesn't get any sun to begin with. I'm not sure how grass is maintained in Vegas without keeping the inside temperatures at uncomfortable levels, unless its a miracle of engineering I'm not familiar with. More than that, as with the case of the MLB in the South, maintaining grass in the North or retrofitting fixed roof stadiums to be like Vegas is an expense most owners don't want to entertain, and may not actually solve the problem. Finally, the issue of injury was much more prevalent in the multi-purpose stadium days, where seams and imperfections where the fields were changed over would cause various ligament tears or other injuries. With the departure of the Raiders to Las Vegas, these no longer exist in the NFL, and are no longer a factor. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
