+John Leonard -- I can only imagine hearing the Modern Lovers (or even Jonathan Richman solo) on FM radio. I wish I'd been alive during the era of disc jockeys choosing their own playlist. Wasn't WBCN the station that started playing the Cars's demo tape before they even had a deal? Sounds like a magical time to me!

Wow hard to believe that just 15 years ago this song could have been released and fit right in with the whole indie rock scene of the late 2000s, could have probably even charted. However, the song itself is from 1972 and was recorded in 1973!

They say the whole Modern Lovers is made of recordings intended only to be demos, not the final versions. This song is fucking great, but you can hear that Jonathan's voice is going "into the red" -- too much gain, causing distortion. Surely not intended for final release when they recorded it! I love the echo on his voice, though. Considering he barely even allows reverb on his voice these days, it's a novelty to hear this song.
@natetheguitarkid

Ben Culture Actually its delay on the vocals (which is basically a form of reverb), ive been playing with reverb for awhile trying to get this kind of effect and just realized today its delay lol, tried it on one of my vocal tracks to be sure.
