மாடர்ன் ரெஸ்டாரன்டில் நான் 45-வருஷமா சாப்பிட்டேன். கடந்த 6-மாதத்துக்கு முன்னால் அங்கே பொங்கல் வடை சாப்பிட்டு விட்டு சங்கரன் கோவில் செல்ல ரயில் ஏறினேன்.ரயிலியே எனக்கு வாந்தி! அந்த ஓட்டல் கடந்த கால உணவுப் பக்குவத்தை இழந்து விட்டது.சில வருடங்களாக அதன் தரமும் சுவையும் குறைந்து விட்டது. அவர்கள் இப்போது ஓட்டலைத் தான் புதுப்பித்து இருக்கிறார்கள் தரத்தில் கோட்டை விட்டு விட்டார்கள்!

ஒரு பேப்பர் roast 100 ரூபாய். விலை மிகவும் அதிகமா இருக்கு நண்பரே. இன்றும் ஒரு நாளைக்கு 100 ரூபாய் மட்டுமே சம்பளம் வாங்குபவர்கள் இருக்கிறார்கள்.

மதுரை தான் நான் பிறந்த ஊர் .என் அப்பாவுக்கு பிடித்த Hotel இது .நாங்கள் வெளிநாட்டில் இருக்கிறோம் . மதுரைக்கு எப்ப வந்தாலும் மதுரை மீனாட்சி அம்மன் கோவிலுக்கும் இந்த Hotel - க்கும் கண்டிப்பாக போய் வருவோம் . சாம்பார் வடை செம டேஸ்ட் .என் அப்பா காலத்தில் இருந்து அதே டேஸ்டில் இருக்கிறது.

I think that my visit to Modern Restaurant was in 1969. Still the taste lingers in the mind and tongue.

நான் சிறுவனாக இருக்கும்போது இருந்து என்னுடைய அப்பா அழைத்து வந்து என்னை மாடர்ன் ரெஸ்ட்டாரண்ட் ல் சாப்பாடு டிபன் எல்லாம் சாப்பிட வைப்பதில் அவருக்கு அளவற்ற சந்தோஷம் .எங்களுக்கும் தான். என் திருமணத்திற்கு முகூர்த்த புடவை எடுக்க பெண் வீட்டாரை இங்கே தான் மதிய உணவு அழைத்துச் சென்று சாப்பிட செய்தோம். என் மனைவியின் தாய் தகப்பனார் அவர்களின் உறவினர்களும் மிகவும் பாராட்டினார்கள். இப்போது என் வயது 63 வருடம் ஆகும். நன்றி ! சத்தியமூர்த்தி....

When ever we went to Meenakshi Amman temple with family, we ate dinner at modern restaurant.onion rava dhoosa and filter coffee. Morning pongal is good there till now.

Great place to eat in Madurai. It’s almost an institution and has been there forever. I’ve been long gone from Madurai and India for decades now but having grown up in the city, I’ve eaten there many, many times. Real old school place in Madurai.

All the food are very tasty and homely. In recently the taste are slightly different from previous. Specially Pongal taste is changed. Previously it was super. Meals is super. It is like amma samayal. We are going to this restaurant from 1980.

Memories is all we have and all we carry.. The modern restaurant seems to one of those wonderful memories clearly evident from the customer.. One more great video

Their pongal & Coffee would be excellent....in 90s they used to serve "Paal Poli" during evenings...excellent sweet...my dad's usual evening snack place...paal poli + bonda + coffee....i don't know why they stopped that "Paal Poli" :(
