Apart from her amazing voice she had something else, then I put my finger on it... she was authentic and sang with integrity...her own person, no copying anyone else, a unique and special soul, alas too good and too sensitive to survive for too long in this physical environment... our loss. RIP dear Amy.

she expressed a fear that fame would eat her up. She didn't need to be famous. She was too gentle to escape the harm that fame can do.

Amy died when i was very young. I remember seeing her face and hearing her name but I didn’t know who she was. But years later i was listening to her song “Tears dry on their own” when my mom was driving me to school. All it took was the first verse for me to fall in love. The point is that years after she died she still holds not only relevance but power and emotion. Its 2020 now and 9 years since her passing and she is still my favorite artist ever! Even though i still may be young to understand the messages in her songs (17 soon to be 18) i still listen and most often sing along. Rest in peace Amy and Thank you.

+Ricki Coughlan People criticise because humans are obsessed with their own opinions and how they interpret the world as if what one thinks about someone else is actually important or valid. Rather than question one's own mind. "I have an opinion. Is it true? " is the only thing you need ask yourself.
@BradiswhatBraddoes8 жыл бұрын
+Ricki Coughlan He was there,we were not. He has so far made it through his addiction. He saw the talent in her and now realizes he shouldn't waste his own. He is a genius to some ,an asshole to others. Good on him to realize that being comfy in your own skin is the only way you can win the battle

however.. he made some chides that were not needed in order to disingenuously concede his own "plastic-ness" as he put. For true lovers, those who are sensibly sensitive enough to love with all their heart, this phony concession was obviously made in an attempt to separate himself form the others he pre-judged upon his walk into the show. IF he truly had learned anything he'd have first of all done all he could to involve himself with Amy's brand i.e. promoting it perceiving her shitstained demonic father and he'd be raising awareness for those of us who are vulnerable because we love. Instead he blames it on the alcohol(disease) when the suffering begins before the bottle.(pun intended)

back when music still mattered...musicians cared and could actually play and sing...
@chickenwing9869 жыл бұрын
MrRatherino Um...this was only 9 years ago. "Musicians" haven't been able to play or sing for about 10 years, because most "musicians" are manufactured acts or rap acts who don't sing at all. No matter what year, there will be exceptions and true talent will shine: Amy Winehouse, Adele, Alabama Shakes, Etc.

"...that voice, a voice that seemed not to come from her but from somewhere beyond even Billie and Ella, from the font of all greatness." Russell Brand This young woman stole my heart, filled my heart, bruised my heart. The words expressed by Russell Brand help speak my feelings for Amy Winehouse because I am unable to put in words what she meant to me as a person and musician. I know I'll never experience her like ever again in my lifetime.
@anneloughlin24802 жыл бұрын
Beautifully said, I’ll echo that. The most mesmerising talent in my lifetime for sure, for all her sadness she made all our lives just that little bit more special by being here
@dominamortis80457 жыл бұрын
She truly was a genius, a beautiful person with a beautiful kind sad soul. She never found true happiness here on earth maybe towards the end but I hope she's at peace now. I wanted to see her live and hopefully meet her...I didn't get the chance but I still felt like I knew her. I could relate to her sadness the way she felt. Some of her songs really connected with me. I don't think we'll ever have another musician so genuine and true as Amy Winehouse. :(

As the ICON Tony Bennet said of his own addiction...It wasn't until a dear friend told him : "You are sinning AGAINST your talent" that he stopped his cocaine addiction & became completely clean. Such a tragedy for the beautiful Soul & Voice that Amy was blessed with ~ To have bulimia & drugs & alcohol addictions. How many can survive all that while being swept away with a career in the music industry which can be such a "dog eat dog" roller coaster. She had a beautiful rare talent seen usually once in a generation if we are lucky. To be compared with Billy Holiday & Ella Fitzgerald...those are BIG shoes. I wish I could have heard her live at her best... but REALLY Appreciate Russell Brand's loving assessment of the genius of her voice! I saw Mikhail Baryshnikov dance... & words always fail to fully describe the absolute transcendence of a soul experiencing the exquisite beauty of a genius at their craft... it humbles you to your core. I SO wish Amy could have slayed her dragons -& came to a place of healing & joy in her life & blessed us all with more of her musicality. Like a Shooting Star... Beautiful & Gone Too Soon. !

Addiction is one of the worst demons there is ... it really possesses an individual. They are no longer the person they used to be at all ... and the addiction is truly like being possessed by another entity. So many people, besides outstanding artists, have lost their lives, in some fashion, to the disease of addiction. I was praying for Amy's sobriety ... I know that prayer does work, but there has to be a willingness to change in those being prayed for. Amy was quite the artist. As for Russell, keep you nose clean and do great things to change the world in a positive fashion, but most importantly, take care of that soul of yours and all good things will follow.
@fuldagermany9 жыл бұрын
Some folks making repulsive comments herein are so revolting that one has to wash their eyes after reading some of the hateful things they say as well as take a few aspirin to get rid of the pain of the images that it creates in one's brain as well as hiring an exorcist to rid one's computer of the demon vomit deposited therein by that evil posing as a person. I think it might be a good idea if we, who love Winehouse and do not like people who say horrible things about her, as well as their using this forum to add racist and prejudicial comments about other cultures, races, gender, or whatever garbage that individual manages to dig out of their perverse mind should be reported as using You Tube in a very abusive manner. Anyone who is continually saying that others are into sodomy and other such offensive things is obviously a very disturbed individual and has no business in social forums. I know many of you have been offended by this person and agree with me. Some call it (do not know what it is gender wise but it is passing itself off as a male, but who knows) a troll. I call it pure hatred on the loose and it has no place in polite society. I had made a comment to a British fellow and got a response from it instead. I told it I had made no comment to it and felt that it's comment to me was out of place and to stop and it continues to harass me. People like this deserve a special place in a very squalid area where it is fenced in and they have no access to humane human beings either in person or on computers. They are a poison to the world.

Same song was performed by them at Hootenanny. Just listen to it how she can interpret same song in such a different way. Both versions are perfect. All is improvisation. There do not exist other performances belonging to the same song. If there was, I'm sure all would be different..There is no original one.. Her interpretations are unique. That is why we can listen to her forever. We can not but only admire her. She was such a talent of the past as well as of the future.

maybe we can all kind of identify - the moment when you realize someone you know has an incredible hidden talent, which causes you to view them in a different light thereafter. It's usually the quiet ones, which makes the talent even more surprising, although maybe it shouldn't - because when you're really good there's no need to brag.

Amy Jade Winehouse (14 September 1983 - 23 July 2011) was an English singer and songwriter known for her deep expressive contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres, including soul[1][2][3] (sometimes labelled as blue-eyed soul and neo soul),[4][5] rhythm and blues,[6][7][8] and jazz.[9][10] Winehouse's debut album, Frank (2003), was a critical success in the UK and was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Her follow-up album, Back to Black (2006), led to five 2008 Grammy Awards, tying the then record for the most wins by a female artist in a single night, and made her the first British female to win five Grammys,[11][12] including three of the general field "Big Four" awards: Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

AMY WINEHOUSE was a daughter, sister, before she was a singer. Respect her. Fuckers look in the mirror and who made you God to judge her. She was one of a kind like the great Billie Holliday, Sarah Vaugh, Nina Simone and many more. They are in the Heavenly Jazz Clubs singing. We all should count our blessings for the music Amy left that we relate to. The heartaches, fears, first love, and realm or who we are...human with the same emotions as the next person. I had family members who were addicts in the 60's and yet they turned their lives around and went onto to great things, have families and be successful and their children. Lets all try passing human kindness no matter what sector of society one comes from....music is universal and eternal for past, present and future generations. REST IN LOVING PEACE AMY....you are loved amongst the living.
