The Momentum SQ30 Eclipse, the successor to the popular Sea Quartz. Better in black?

The Momentum SQ30 Eclipse is the newest model taking inspiration from the Chronosport S30, a popular watch in the 1980s and famously worn by Magnum PI in the first 3 seasons, played by Tom Selleck.
This Eclipse model takes that same case and bezel but adds a new dial, a solar quartz movement, and an all-black case. Also new is an all-black bracelet, and I look at the rubber Nato-style strap.

Update* the bracelet end links and quick release pins work a lot better after a few times of doing it. I believe it’s the coatings that make it a tight fit but after a few times of switching it out, I was able to attach the bracelet like I would with any other quick release end links. 👍

They need to do this PVD version with the 6,9,12 dial layout of the Magnum watch. For a company like Momentum, they need to make several options available for each model, otherwise there's just way too much competition out there.

And yeah, Momentum definitely needs to do an ana-digi of this. That would be freaking awesome.

black watches look nice but not after they get bumped around and the black starts to wear off

Bought the regular Sea Quartz last month. This solar is tempting to me, I don't need more automatic divers.

Pvd and ion plating are both processes to bond material to metal. Pvd can be a lot like ion plating in terms of look an durability, but when Pvd is used to deposit a DLC coating, the coating will last a lot lot longer than ion plating. They aren't "the same thing".

I've just received mine and I've stuck it on a black marine strap and I think it looks great. My bezel works very well with no wobble issues. Thanks for your review which helped me decide and steered me away from the black bracelet.

I have had this model for about 2 weeks. Very happy with it so far. Much better build quality than I was expecting.

I've been tempted by this model many times, but I'd have more confidence in DLC vs. PVD for finish longevity. Just picked up the Marathon Stainless Navigator no date model, and I have to say it's a winner. The Parkerized assymetrical Benrus Type II case looks great, and the accuracy on the ETA PreciDrive is outstanding. I'd be interested to see your review of this piece.
