Hades gets a bad rap when Zeus was a complete menace to EVERYONE!
@kingol480117 күн бұрын
Because he should be. That is what gods are - forces of nature. Trying to project humanity on divinity is just horrid concept. Main difference: Interaction with the enviroment. People cannot change things. So, they accept things and give up. When a god exists, reality is their to mold. Anything and everything can be undone by the virtue of god’s imagination. Essentially, here is the comparison: Humans climb the mountain to get through it. God just tears the mountain down, along with everybody still climbing it. Gods SHOULD be seen as forces of nature. As hurricanes or earthquakes. Not “good” or “bad”. Just neutral, impactful. Essentially, gods would logically hold very alien, not human-centric morality (if everything is a product of your imagination, life is dispensable and meaningless, as it can be rewritten at any point)… and be walking nuclear explosions with personality (and therefore temper). Zeus is the EXACT embodiment of that kind of god (or, by more modern popular culture, TV Homelander) - he lashes out and gets what he wants, because he is superior to others by miles, and therefore, it is an optimal course of actions within the environment. Difference is that “Boys” is a human-centric TV show and villain is supposed to lose. Whereas Zeus was rightfully feared and never lost. He was the oppressive, powerful being that exercised his superiority rightfully over anything and everything. It might not be a good thing by human standards, but by divine standards, that is peak of the line.

When I was a little kid, about 6 or 7, there was this Myth-o-Mania book series I started reading. The series covered various Greek myths -- told from Hades' point of view, and he knows his readers include younger kids as well, which means it's pretty easy to read. In this version of the myths, the Gods also have access to some "modern" technology that we're familiar with, like cell phones and television, which of course the humans know nothing about, which is just kind of a funny note. But this depiction of Hades shows him as a pretty nice guy, kind of irritable sometimes, but it's understandable because he's the oldest god who tries to keep all the other siblings (but especially Zeus) out of trouble. But even then they don't hate each other, Zeus just really annoys Hades because he keeps goofing up and making oopsies and asking his responsible older brother to fix his messes so Hades gets stuck with the dirty work, but Hades is too good hearted most of the time to insist Zeus fix it himself. Hera is shown to be not quite an ally but is more sympathetic and understanding because Zeus is cheating all the time and is wildly irresponsible, so she "gets" it. And Poseidon has the portrayal of a party guy while also being pretty relaxed, and the relationship with Poseidon and Hades is much better, although Poseidon sometimes goofs up too, and then it's Hades to the rescue. So Hades winds up being basically like a tired dad/older brother/babysitter who tries to make the best out of bad or weird situations -- like being asked to help train Theseus in wrestling or get angsty teenage Cupid to wake up to the fact that Psyche loves him enough to put up with Aphrodite's BS but can't stand up to the goddess alone, etc. Not all the myths have the same endings, though -- Hades supports Perseus, for example, but is also good friends with Medusa, so they work out a way to trick the king by having Perseus give him a fake Medusa head, which the king tries to use immediately by confidently striding up to his rival and whipping it out... Which fails because it's a fake head, and then he gets killed by his rival before he can get revenge for the fake head. Stuff like that
@akisamekoetsuji729813 күн бұрын
Not in „Blood of Zeus“ tho, I mean yeah, he wants to get King of the Gods there too but not bc he actually wants the power but bc he knows Zeus tricked him (which actually happened) and (more importantly) bc he wants to tell Demeter to shut the hell up so he can be with Persephone the entire year. And that only partly for himself but moreover bc he want to spare his Kids the heartbreak they suffer when their mother leaves.

The R**** of Persephone is always pulled out in opposition but the root of that word comes from an old world for stealing. Persephone was stolen from Demeter. Zeus arranged the marriage of his daughter with Hades and told Hades how to show Persephone a grand act. The whole story was Zeus' idea. Persephone is not shown to be unwilling, but also not shown to be willing. In the myth she is not a real character, it is a story about Zeus, Hades, and Demeter to explain natural phenomenon. The myth of their marriage is also far younger than persephone as the underworld goddess though. She is an ancient goddess that predates Ancient Greece and had always been the goddess of roots and death. Too many people try to use Persephone as a weapon against Hades even though all of the worst versions of the story were written by Christian monks rather than people who worshiped him.

Not just that even the Japanese version of Hades ( record of ragnarok) couldn't care less about that and is seen more as a loving big brother who wants to protect his siblings than one who wants to rule over them
@AzureKyle4 ай бұрын
The thing is, most media portray him as a villain, when he's not. He's just a guy doing his job. He has no resentments towards fellow gods, especially Zeus. However, a lot of his stories are twisted by others when they translate them, to try and make him evil, because people nowadays fear death, while the Ancient Greeks viewed death as a part of life, something to be embraced, not feared or loathed.
@demonslayer6267Ай бұрын
Slight correction, the Greeks were abso-fucking-lutelty terrified of death and spooked by the Underworld, to the point where they even avoided calling Hades and Persephone by name, in a ''Don't mention them they might notice you'' bad omen type of deal, I think the Egyptians are a better pick for what you describe seeing as, unlike the Greek Phanteon, the Egyptian Gods could age, even die, and Osiris, an Underworld God, was for quite some time the big cheese of the Phanteon (Never a constant thing with Egyptians, God in charged changed depending on the current Pharo's favorite furry)

It always frustrated me how pop culture portrates Hades as the villain and every other olympian as a heroic figure, while in mythology its the complete opposite. Until recently i found out about a book trilogy called The Ruined Gods by Alex Robins, where it does justice to the character (and shows some other olympians as the true trash they are). I highly recomend it, as not only it does justice to one of the most misanderstud mythological figures, it also has amaizing plot twists and the writer understands uses respectfully the ancient greek language in his work.

@johnnyperry14715 ай бұрын
@@byronrush9802 She is the goddess of smart war, he is the god of dumb war. As the goddess of tactics her knowledge aspect is directly tied to her status as a war god. The greeks were also not attached to the idea of one god for one thing. Aspects can be shared by multiple entities. There are tons of gods of the ocean and Poseidon was not in a power struggle with them. Hades is not the god of death but instead the god of the underworld, the whole realm but persephone is also the god of the underworld and had been long before Ancient Greece. When Hades was created and Persephone had already been worshiped in Arcadia, they were just put together. The Greeks didn't believe in denying gods, that would be unwise as they may retaliate. So new and old gods were just fit together without denial unless they were targeted by politician when their cults were a nuisance.
