One word: masterpiece I was hesitant also at first bc of the lenght but trust me, it's ALL worth it You won't find a story like this anywhere else

I got y'all. TLDR: It's amazing and worth the read if you love vns. That bih longer than the bible but don't let that deter you, just pace yourself. Phenomenal voice acting, amazing writing with lots of character development, famous higharushi like evil faces, what's not to love? Caveats: Part 1 is standard mystery and is a little long to read. For me Part 2 is where it starts. And it it's gets better and better....until chapter 4. Takes a break from the action and is long and a bit boring UNTIL the epic climax at the end. Part 5 and 6 are considered to be best parts of entire game so your suffering is rewarded. Sidenote: Read the mf tea party and ??? stories at the end of each chapter. They are all good, and some of your climaxes are there.

I know ypu say get the 07thmod, but hpnestly, the Umineko Project version of umjneko is by far the definitive experience. You gotta torrent it since it's a fanmade pc port of umineko's console release, but its thenway i read umineko, and i couldnt see myself reading the steam version after getting Umineko Project

I loved higurashi, definitely going to check this game out some times in the future!

Awesome and very well done review. You managed to highlight the key elements that make the Question arcs amazing within such a short video! The characters in this VN are unlike any I had the pleasure of becoming familiar with even ever since. They have such nuance and are as morally ambiguous as many people I know in real life. I see myself and others in my life in these characters and this enabled me to reflect on myself when I first read the series. It’s definitely fitting to say that I found this series when I needed it most The soundtrack is also my favorite in fiction. As you said in the review, there is so much range that I feel like there is at least a few tracks that almost anyone would love. There is so much emotion and passion in almost every track in the series while still remaining consistent with the themes and settings. Believe it or not, imo the soundtrack somehow gets even better during the answer arcs so I’m definitely looking forward to your remarks on it during your answer arc review! I do agree with the comments on the length and pacing of Umineko. It’s the main reason why I’ve had a relatively difficult time getting people into the series. All I can say is while the script could’ve been tighter in places, I still genuinely believe most story beats are essential in some aspect whether it be for pushing the themes, establishing world building, developing characters, and persisting the mystery. Sorry for the rant! Anyways, awesome review and I’m looking forward to your answer arcs reactions and review!

You didn't mention in the video, but there is another "mod" called Umineko Project. Despite of 07th mod being good, Umineko Project is even better. That one is what I consider the definitive version. And yeah, 07th mod mentions Umineko Project in their website as well.

5:34 to be fair, there is Umineko Project, which is a FULL port of the ps3 version, with better animations, lip sync and other stuff. Try that too before starting on patched steam version.

Great timing for this video! I'm currently on, I believe, the last chapters of Episode 3 and boy is it GOOD. I've heard multiple times people saying Umineko is the kind of work that one ups itself every episode, and I thought "surely people are being biased on this" but nope. It really is that great, and I've been enjoying it more the longer I play it. I'm definitely not a visual novel player, I'm actually far from acquainted with these works, so hearing it was LONG I just thought it was a VN thing, now I'm over 40 hours in (is that a lot? I have no idea) and can't get enough of it. Can't wait to see what it has coming in Episode 4 and the Answer Arcs. While I'm at it, if anyone reading has other VN recommendations, preferably available through Steam, I'd absolutely love to hear about them!

so glad u started playing this my guy. i recommend each 2 episodes to hop on to a moege or something for a breather bc from now on stuff gets complicated.

Oh and he's right. Download the mod. You can then chose from the graphics. You won't get what he showed in the vid without the mod. You'll get creepy child like models for everyone. My personal opinion....but they definitely aren't as cool as the models he showed in the vid.

Great review, but I would heavily disagree that the 07th mod is a requirement. Reading without voice acting in the original way as written and drawn by the original creator, it's a way more intimate and less cinematic experience (in a good way) in my opinion.

Currently at 75% of the first Chapter. Been wanting to read this for a very long time but didn't get the chance to, and when I had the time before this, I dropped it at the start of Chapter 3 and I regret it. It's an absolute endurance test. I thought to myself that I can not go on any longer without knowing how the story would turn out and everyone literally calling it a masterpiece so I gave it another try and restarted the whole thing so I would experience it all again. Let's just say I have extremely high expectations from this. Wanting to recommend this to my brother as well. But boy oh boy, I haven't met anyone more busy than he is with just from working at home. I recommended too much games and movies already, and knowing the length of Umineko..... yeah, no, he couldn't even get 10 episodes in Higurashi anime back then when I recommended it to him. No way in hell. I'll finish Umineko for myself first. And it'll better be a true magnum opus of a literature piece before I recommend this length of a visual novel to him LMAO. this VN so hard to suggest because of its length :(

I really need to get around to playing this. Mystery games are easily my favorite yet for some reason I've never tried this one in particular even though it's always looked interesting. Is there a place you recommend playing it? I saw it's on steam but someone told me a while back it's better to download it from some website for the best quality or something..? But it required me to mess around with files and junk, then I got busy and never bothered.

The reason i never got around to liking the game is because i always found Battler to be extremely unlikable. His stubbornness is quite ridiculous and he sounds like a petulant child most of the time. And the way everyone gets on his side like he's some sort of unique chosen one makes the whole thing even more annoying.
