Finished this last week too. After all the years of waiting for a localization, all I could say is that it was fucking worth it. I've read (and finished) a dozen or so VN's within the past two months, but compared to most of them, the ending of Totono definitely had a lot more impact. I was thinking about it days after I finished it while already reading a different work.

After I read it, I felt so empty that i just didn't read anything for a while because I was still thinking about it. Like a hole was left in my heart, with nothing equal to replace it

For anyone who want to read it for the first time : Don't forget you'll only read this ONCE (for many reasons) Usually, When I'm reading VNs or playing games, I take my choices in methodic order with the goal to exhaust them all and see every possible ending. Which is sad because I often forget to play the game and take choices as I WANTED.... because I'm too methodic and dumb. The first time you'll play it, only chose what you absolutely want, or you'll regret it. I did what I felt on the moment in Totono and it was an absolute 5/5 experience. And for reasons you'll only understand at the very end : I will never boot this game ever again... because I loved it.

Just finished Totono and it blew my mind. I’m glad I went in nearly Blind into my experience. I think having a fresh playthrough with as little knowledge of the game as possible is for the best. The dichotomy between choice and consequence was executed nearly flawlessly here by the writers, big props to them. Not gonna lie I also sat there at the end for some time before resolving the narrative with with my final choice. I’m not sure if I’m happy or not with what I chose, but I think that’s the point. You have to live with that decision and keep climbing that staircase long after the credits roll one step at a time. I think it’s a good sign when a VN makes you think hard about the lessons and themes it attempts to convey to the reader, this one is definitely up there with the best for me. Anyways great stuff! Thanks once again for a solid recommendation.

Oh man, they actually put in a lot of stuff in Totono. The sheer brilliance of this in all goes beyond of what Totono makes it seem as simply having to choose either one of them. And that, is NOT the hardest choice to make in the game.

It's been 3 weeks since I finished this game and i can't stop thinking about it. I've never been this moved by a game before. I love everything about it. Every moment I got to spend with Aoi was pure joy. ❤❤❤Aoi❤❤❤

SPOILERY? yeah this was phenomenal read, it has to be 1 of my all time favorite vns, although it was a brutal experience for sure. I am the type of guy who will often times only do one route since I feel too guilty to do other routes, But when I got to the end of miyukis route, I was like 30$ for something this short? There has to be more so I stomached through beep beeps route exhausting every single choice to not go down it hoping for some extra ending. There was none. and you know what happens after that. I have never felt worse for choices I made in a game in my life. 10/10 would also recommend. btw what was your final choice :)?

It was a bit interesting making the script. I wanted to convey those elements without spoiling too much, while also selling the mystery as much as possible. Yeah, you're not alone in that perspective. I know a person who thinks like that. In comparison, I like going through each of the heroines routes to see what their stories are. Needless to say, this VN was brutal for my conscience. I'm Team Miyuki. I spent so much time with her and she won me over lol

@@TheAugustHail I think ya nailed the balance, although have you considered having a spoiler section in your reviews for games that might benefit from that? alot of people do like skip to 3:30 to avoid spoilers or what ever. not sure if thats a good idea just throwing it out there.

@@tamro9701 Fair idea. It just depends on the balance really. If there's enough spoiler content to have its own section, it might happen either as a section like you said or as a separate video. It really depends if I have enough to talk about it.

@@TheAugustHail Oh man, commenting again just to thank you. I'm extremely glad I picked it up, I hadn't heard of it at all until your video and going in blind was amazing. Pretty much the entire latter half of the game was completely unforgettable, immediately after I finished it I had to hop on reddit and talk mountains about it. I'm glad you made the review and recommendation, although haha one of my first thoughts after finishing it was thinking about how hard it would be to do a review on -- almost every single thing I thought was super cool and interesting about the game I couldn't say a thing about in any recommendation I'd made in fear of spoiling it. Miyuki gang btw ✌️

I got one alleged bad ending where the MC let's Miyuki go about her life and I got the good ending where I end up with Miyuki on my first two play throughs because I never really wanted to be with Aoi because she was being a weirdo and disgusting but then there's Miyuki.

Great job on the video!! I really loved the friendship this trio shared. They felt like a really realized, wholesome group of pals and man I just wish they could all be happy :') I'm also surprised by how much I ended up loving Aoi as a character! Normally I don't really like the "gamer," oddball characters in VN's, but she really ended up being different from what I expected. I just want her to have a good life :( Like, of course I want the entire trio to be happy, but Aoi especially :'(

The “Always and forever” theme strike a close resemblance with the Clannad OST’s distant years, which I find pretty interesting :) it sets the same melancholy theme too Good video! Nice editing too!

Loved the review, and if you ever have time, would of loved to see a full spoiler discussion of this VN. As for the last part and hard choices, lets say 1 specific h scene that I REALLY did not like, not a vanilla guy exactly but they made something painful(if you played u know) but its something like you said, u should go through because of how worth it this VN is. Also the ost is really amazing, not sure if I am the only one who feels that way, but I hardly ever go back to listen to half of an ost of a VN, one or two maybe a few tracks is one thing, but something about totono I really like.

I had predicted that H-Scene not many people would have not liked, but I still found it important to the plot to help sell the point. The OST is unexpectedly great; there's some nicely fitting tracks in here!

This, in my opinion, is where one of Hitomi Nabatame's best roles comes in. Though, I prefer Kazusa Touma from White Album 2 and Izumi Wakoto from Lovely x Cation 2 when it comes to my favorite characters that she portrays visual novel wise. If you are wondering, she voices Miyuki Sone under a different alias/name. And for those who played Majikoi, Hitomi also voiced a character there which is Stacy Connor if I'm not mistaken.

I hate you for convincing me to play this, it's 3am and i am crying so much. i got the "fade" ending. i've never felt so empty even after evangelion. for real this game is a masterpiece and it beats saya no uta and doki doki easily but my god ow that ending. i got no "horror" out of it and i don't want to see where that happens. Aoi deserved so much better i'm sorry ;-;

@@TheAugustHail sorry for the late reply i found out i didn't actually finish it. i chose miyuki and they really had to rub it in that "she" is gone they even went as far as changing the whole intro for it and there is no evidence besides the cat and hairpin that she even existed. dude this hurts. but thank you i'm glad that this was the nail in the coffin for me to play it i agree that its a 10/10. anyway i'm lowkey curious to what you chose and i'm just try and stop crying now lmao

The Steam version is the All-Ages version with no H-Scenes!
