This is the most dangerous race on Earth. And many people are calling for it to be banned. But if the racers themselves have defended this race for over a hundred years, is the danger just a necessary evil?
No footage of fatal incidents is shown in this video. This is an educational documentary on the professional racing at the Isle of Man TT

@@everyhandletaken I bet most people aren't aware of how many have actually died here. In the crash videos there are thousands of people in the kill zone. You get lulled into a false sense of security by standing in a crowd and at any time a motorcycle can hit a rock and fly 200+ at you. Thought you were safe sitting on the hill? Not anymore. In my opinion they should bring back Group B Rally and get rid of this mess. Much safer and much more fun to watch.

As a sport bike rider, the isle of man is quite literally the pinnacle of sport bike racing. You have to be the best of the best to even have a chance of surviving even participating. I had the incredible honor to try the road during their open public road use a few days before official races started. I could never get to even the surface of how fast these racers get. But simply getting to put 2 wheels on this legendary surface is an incredible honor

Start looking for a room in Douglas on booking sites around January each year. That’s when people start canceling their bookings. Once you’ve got a place to stay, THEN start looking for a flight! Be aware that flights from the US and Canada will be overnight flights, getting to Europe the next day, Often, those flights will arrive in UK AFTER the last flight of the day to the Island, so you will have to stay overnight and take a morning flight, making it a 2 day trip. Same thing coming home, often i wind up with a late flight off the Island and spend a night in London or Manchester on the way home. Buy your flights as a package, it’s much cheaper than buying individual flights, and you can frequently get an excursion package that will give you a few days in London or Edinburgh or even Dublin. While you are at the TT, spend some time visiting other hotels and guesthouses and asking about NEXT year.

I went in 2014. It was a pilgrimage of sorts for road racing. This is what racing is as its core. Not scripted, not controlled. Just man and machine traversing a regular road surface and beating it. People die every second of every day. We all wish the competitors the safest , but when accidents happen, we accept it. It takes a different kind of mind set in today’s “ don’t do anything stupid” world. Not thrill seeking, just wanting to test your limits against the forces of the world.

I go to TT Race Week every year, and you’ve done a wonderful job posing the questions I’ve been asking myself since I watched the 4 ambulances coming around Quarterbridge Corner and slowly making their way down Peel Rd toward the Braddan traffic circle on that gut-wrenching Friday afternoon this past June 10th. Great video, and, unlike many others, highly accurate in the facts stated. Unfortunately, like many others, you have, for inexplicable reasons, included footage from races that are NOT the TT! There’s footage of the Northern 200, Donington Park, and perhaps others in there! There are thousands of hours of excellent footage from the TT itself, why on Earth would you include footage of other races in a video specifically about the TT? Would you include footage of the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona in a video about American Independance Day celebrations?

You can die anywhere. TT legend Mike Hailwood was killed in a car crash near his home when he went to get a Fish and Chip supper for his family. I worked as a race mechanic for four years and was relieved when the guy I worked for declined an invite. Last year was a bad one. 6 not 5 deaths. A Dutch guy died of his injuries last month (October). As always it shocks me but it’s always been a part of the sport. TT or short circuit. Great video. I'll never get there in person, so I watch videos. I see riders doing things on a motorcycle, at speeds I can't fathom, going completely airborne, and recovering from the "woobles"! These guys are insane!

An important point you raised in the video is that the Isle of Man is self governed. Also that the race "put the island on the map". The residents don't want the race banned. The TT brings a lot of revenue.

Yes, spot on, about 10 secs in, and film blurred out, to make it seem he had been killed. I'm Manx (as you can tell by my surname), and TT Race week is the best week of the year! Unfortunately, I live in Cornwall now, and miss the island real bad. He also said the lap is 37.5 miles, when it's actually 37.73 miles - you need the accuracy so you can calculate the lap speeds correctly, which I know how to do.

I do like the history fact of your content. But I have several questions.. Have you attended the meeting? Have you spoken to any of the riders ? It is the ultimate test of man and machine.. they all know the risk involved and all the fans truly appreciate them for the spectacular event that they provide year after year .. get the ferry and watch it in person 👍

A lot of the clips you used are not actually of the IOM TT but the equally dangerous Northern Ireland real road races such as the North West 200 and the Ulster Grand Prix - the worlds fastest road race. Please acknowledge and give credit to these amazing races. Some would say these races are better than the TT as they are bike on bike action and not time trials like the TT
