My favorite part: After how hard that recovery was, spending a good deal of the day and evening and all the issues involved Matt offered the customer the chance to use his air at his shop instead of having to go put quarters in a machine at a gas stop. It might seem like a very small thing but If the customer's anything like me then it probably meant a lot to him. Just good people. You can't put a price tag on that.

@@sprint48219 I had a buddy recovered once here in SC, way in the woods. He allowed others to help first and he lost his front bumper as a result. The bill was $300 and took 2 hours to get him out of the mud and back to pavement. The tow guy didn't have to drive more than 20 minutes to get to him though. FYI. Isuzu Troopers are shit in the mud. I told him, he didn't listen, we got deep stuck. I had a 1997 Jeep Wrangler at home with front and rear lockers and I would not have tried it. It was a long day over all.

i have no idea.. but my brain thinks $450 for the tow. Probably $1500 plus damage to his own vehicle in the process. Those are my guesses. Of course this wouldn't make sense as a business model, but sometimes you lose money rather than make money.
@rodneymartin6154
@rodneymartin6154 2 жыл бұрын
@@cryptfire3158 look at it this way; it's not Matt's fault the guy got stuck down there, it's not Matt's problem that the hill he needs to go up is so incredibly difficult and however long it takes is however long it takes. Knowing a little about businesses like his, I'd guess the customer was charged a base fee to drive out there and back, then an hourly rate for Matt and each member of the recovery crew that had to help (minus camera people). I would venture to say the bill was $2000 minimum, likely more. Matt needs to make money on every job in order to stay in business and he's the only guy around that would have been able to do that recovery. He's not the type that would take unfair advantage of anyone, so whatever he charged was fair.

We do not give enough credit to the pack animals. My Dad was a wrangler (horse handler), who ran a six-horse pack-train up into the mountains, ever week, for six years. There are horses with distinct traits for every use. A mountain-trail pack-horse would go up the slope, in this video, like it was flat. But they only go in SLOW gear, about 2 mph and only for 3 hours. Then they need to stop for the day. Why? Because they need to graze for 12 hours every day, just to eat enough. Remember grass has all the nutrition that lettuce does. You are asking a 1,400 lb horse to carry 250 lbs up a mountain on lettuce. You need to eat a lot of lettuce to do that.

I understand why you wouldn't, but would bring it even more context. For the time/labor, equipment upkeep, and other overhead, I'd figure it to be at least a grand. But with what appeared to be 4people (not including camera men), 2trucks, etc for a full day's work, that's probably super low. Maybe $2-3k 🤷 But I literally have no idea.

Love to watch these rescues. You and your crew are fearless. Full of true grit, and a driving ambition for success. You know not, the meaning of the word, quit. Very inspirational program. You push the limits to a personal sacrifice of yourselves, and your equipment, in many instances. The world needs more people as awesome, and dedicated. Keep educating your watchers to stay strong, and never give up😉

@tyvek05 He was out there with 3 guys for a whole day. At $25 an hour (probably an underestimate) that is $600 for just labor. It is probably above a grand for a recovery like that. He can stay in buisness because high costs are reasonable for recoveries that intensive. If they don't pay him, it will just sit there. And nobody can undecut him because of upfront cost and consumables (i.e. power steering pump, axles, tires, alternator)
