The Most Dominant Team In Modern NASCAR History

The Iceberg

3 жыл бұрын

We have seen specific drivers dominate NASCAR like Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex, Jr., and Kyle Busch but sometimes there are entire teams that are ridiculously fast and end up taking control of the sport for some spans of time. That is what Hendrick Motorsports managed to do in 2007 in the Cup Series. Between having a new car, new format, and tough competition HMS managed to put together one of the most dominant seasons for an organization in all of NASCAR history. This is the most dominant team in modern NASCAR history.

@ThorneyGryffon
@ThorneyGryffon 3 жыл бұрын
I think you give HMS the 90s, maybe a slight lead into the 2000s, but the 2010s you have to go JGR. After 2010 you has Edwards, Kenneth, Hamlin and Busch winning or top 5 everywhere. Jimmie was winning some, but mostly cruising in the summer until the playoffs. Jr won a few superspeedway races. Gordon wasn't winning anymore, the 5 car was pretty a non competitor.

I think that in 2021 and beyond, we could see another Hendrick dominance similar to 2007, 2009, or 2014. They have the drivers they need to fill in the old rolls. Elliott = Johnson Larson = Gordon Bowman = Ky Busch Byron = Kahne/Martin We have a real powerhouse team in the works. Maybe not in 2021, but for sure a few years down the line.

Kyle had a hell of a lot more competition than Chase and Kyle wasn't just handed a top flight ride on namesake the #5 cars always been jinxed and the ugly red headed step child of Hendrick why the hell you think he got the hell outta Dodge. And untill chase wins 200 Nascar races shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as kyle again as the talent level is nowhere close Bush albeit an asshole is gonna go down as one of the Absolute best to ever do it love or hate him. Chase while off to a decent start has a long ways to go to match kyle in any context

18 Hendrick wins in 36 races... Jeff Gordon had an all-time great season with 6 wins, 21 top 5s, 30 top 10s & an average finish of 7.3. Jeff Gordon scored a 5th place average finish in The Chase with 2 wins, 6 top 5 finishes, 9 top 10s with his worst finish being 11th. Only Johnson could match Gordon with his Chase hot streak, which led to 4 consecutive wins. With Johnson winning 10 races, he & Gordon combined to win 16 races in the season. Truly, a dominant season for Hendrick.

HMS has to be, for their longevity. JGR had a great season with 19 wins, but that was sustained only 1-2 seasons, whereas HMS lasted from mid 90s to late 2000s, and was still winning regularly up to 2016. Problem is Hendricks legacy hasn’t been that great as of late, yes Elliot won the ship but that was the only consistent driver they had for the past few years 2020 excluded due to how crazy it was! Any way it will be very interesting to see this JGR vs Hendrick rivalry in the next decade!

That was a lot of fun to watch and I’m not an HM fan , but it was just fun watching back @ all those Wins the past 20years. Wowzerz Jimmie Johnson was the worst thing for the sport. Winning 5 straight sucked balls. Especially from that Hendrick. OG race fans are not trying to hear that BS. Gimmie some Woods Bros. Pulling off the miracle of 5straight. Now we’d be talking.

@@raginOKCTHUNDER idk man id hold up on the “ not a dominant legacy “ when you talking about JGR. save that for teams that don’t win multiple championships or hundreds of races with multiple hall of famers. I understand they’re not HMS. But they’re not sittin around trying to break the top 20.

@@raginOKCTHUNDER and just some quick googling showed me JGR has the most sanctioned NASCAR wins of all time. 341 between Cup and Xfinity. 176 cup wins to HMS 256 so that’s a decent gap on the cup side for race victory’s. But overall, Joe Gibbs Racing is statistically the most dominant (winning races they enter, win %) team in NASCARs top 3 series in a very short amount of time. I actually didn’t even know that until you told me they do not have a “dominant legacy” google says, you’re wrongs

The funny thing is Gordon and Johnson won all the Crown Jewels in their first 5 seasons. It took Harvick until 2014 to win the final of the 4 he needed. Stewart never won a 500. It took Busch 14 years to win the 600. Hamlin still doesn’t have a Brickyard or a 600. Chase needs to start knocking those out because that separates you from the rest. Championships, shit ton of wins, and Crown Jewels.

Though 18 is my favorite number and green is my favorite color, imagine how Bobby Labonte would have done if he got the 24 car in 1993. He whipped Gordon in the Busch Grand National Series (and later in IROC), but Bill Davis Racing was never a top team and JGR was rarely on par with Hendrick and Yates during most of Bobby's time with the team.
