I'm only 33.48 in but the mother seems to have a particular jealousy and hatred for Susan, and I'm concerned because of the fact her husband wanted to spend time with the six year old more, making her mom jealous. I just hope her husband was actually just trying to be a good father and not a pedo

More often than not the failure of the authority figures are the reason that children's lives are continuously at risk or lost. If anyone thinks that this sort of thing doesn't and can't happen any more, they would be so wrong. I feel like if maybe this was a bad neighborhood so gunshots were probably not that weird. Someone must have heard the screaming for sure but again, think of the time, if this was a bad neighborhood people might've not reported it 1) because they themselves were doing shady stuff and didn't want the police sniffing around or 2) knew the police wouldn't even bother because they rarely do when it's bad stuff happening in a "bad area" Sad, but when they had Susan in their hands with the evidence of abuse right in front of their eyes they didn't believe her, even if someone reported something it's unlikely things would've developed differently.

I read the book whatever mother says and according to the book the shooting had happened years before they moved into the apartment. She did say that the reporting on it was mixed on this. I thought this when Eleanor kept narrating “two” I would retort “three actually!” But the first murder, she was miraculously acquitted (kind of crazy how this mom seemed to keep getting away with things) so I think Eleanor was going by what she was actually charged with since an acquittal is “alleged” though in Eleanor’s narration of it she gives her own strong opinions of how it’s clearly murder (not a struggle and accidental shot since it was in back not front etc).

That's such a shame that Susan got put through so much, poor girl. To add insult to injury, you don't typically have to remove a bullet unless it's in a problematic location (like near a nerve). She would've been better off if they didn't go digging for the bullet, but her sisters didn't know any better. They tried their best.

@sewer~rat it's far more dangerous to dislodge a bullet rather than keep it in place - why? Because it serves as a plug to reduce blood loss. If you ever get shot, stabbed, perforated or impaled in any way, please don't attempt to remove the object that did it! Apply pressure and try to keep as much blood as you can, otherwise you'll bleed out too quickly to survive.

I mean I was severly abused by a stepmom as a little child. My dad lived in Alaska with her so id have to go every summer. I recall NEVER crying or screaming....literally. The only time I would cry was when I was alone in my room. When you are abused frequently your mind becomes numb to it almost. Sometines I wished I would start crying because she would get madder and madder everytime I didn't show emotion and would do meaner, worse things. It's just so weird. I still to this day, at 27 years old, don't cry in front of people and have very hard time showing emotions in situations that anyone else would. Abuse does weird things to children and adults!

@@noodlesandsprite7052 Most likely guilt, my mother was often times verbally and mentally abusive but I could never report my mother. It's just innate that no matter how much they abuse you, in some way you feel like you deserved it, and the fact people always say, "At the end of the day, she's still your mom." It just cements the fact that you'd be betraying her if you said anything and destroying your family. Added on, you feel powerless; he didn't have the money to take in all his siblings so they'd all have to foster homes and be locked in the system where he'd never see them again so he just kept trying to give hope that maybe, they'll survive until 18 and he can do better. I bet it was traumatizing, and its understandable why he abandoned his siblings in that situation... but he did still abandon them. No mention of him for the rest of Eleanor's video... idk. I don't know what I would do if I were in his shoes. There isn't any way for us to know just how manipulated he was by his mother. this is exactly how my aunt, my blood aunt, treated her foster children over the span of 20 years. 12 girls, 2 boys. it started with a family of siblings, 2 boys, 2 girls. the youngest was only 4 yrs old and the oldest i think was about 12 when my aunt fostered them. they would constantly tell others how they were treated, but because they came from a family of dr*g addicts, everyone was told they were "troubled kids" and to not listen to them. including my own mother who said this to me numerous times over the years. the kids couldn't wait until they turned 18 so that they could leave my aunt's house. after the three older kids turned 18 and moved out, it left the youngest by herself and my aunt started fostering only girls after that. that youngest sibling was the first of 3 girls that ran away from my aunts house because they couldn't take it anymore, but was returned to my aunt and then began helping my aunt hurt these other kids over the years. but every single girl, was found and given back to my aunt...."troubled kids".... it wasn't until the last one that ran away in 2019 i think it was, that there was any real investigation done into my aunt. the girl that ran away was special needs and she ran to her older sister's house to escape. because of her, this nightmare finally ended.....almost. there was an investigation done on my aunt, she was arrested and put on a nearly 2 million dollar bond, and evidence was found of the horrible things she did to those girls. beds with no mattresses, but had handcuffs and duct tape on the headboard and footboards, human feces on the beds that had mattresses as well as smeared on the floor and walls, and the most horrible thing was the THOUSANDS of photos of these underage girls found on my aunt's computer. unfortunately due to covid, my aunt made bail and her newly married husband helped her. he was also blinded by what my aunt had done. because he had his own house, he NEVER went to my aunt's house.....which by the way was across the street from my grandmother....HER OWN MOTHER....who also had her older brother and younger sister living with my grandmother. and NONE of them knew this was happening either, they were forbidden to see them, which was fine for my grandmother because she never approved of my aunt fostering kids anyway and refused to accept them as her grandchildren, so no one knew what was going on, not even the neighbors around my aunt. anyway, no one knows what happened in 2020 or afterward because of the pandemic. and all of those children, who most are now adults with their own families, have no closure or redemption for what was done to them. all they have is an apology from the judge who told them "i am so sorry we failed you" meaning the whole child protection services. my mother told me that if i believed those "troubled kids" over blood then i was no longer family. so sadly on mother's day 2019, i cut all ties with my mom and her entire side of my family. i don't need or want that in my life....but it will forever haunt me and i will forever regret not standing up for those kids years ago.

@@smileyattitude6807 thank you. honestly it was a long time coming and for the first 2 years of that i was basically intimidated by my mom, so that was why i didn't stand up for them when it happened. after i turned 18, i had moved out, which made my mom extremely mad and things were strained ever since. it's been 22 years since that all started and made me look at a lot of things that happened in my childhood....with my aunt, my mom and even my grandma....and made me realize i escaped just in time. you only hear or read about it, or watch shows based off of true events....you never expect to live it. my heart goes out to anyone else who has had to live like any of those poor children, or with other abusive family members and loved ones. it's not easy to watch it as a friend or loved one on the outside either. i am glad that the kids no longer have to live that nightmare....the ones that are now adults have told me that they felt the need to get married and pregnant asap after they turned 18 was so that they could feel "normal" or "human" again....that's heartbreaking. and what is sad is the youngest of the original four ended out married and pregnant and was really really really upset that she had a son, which made me worry for that poor kid and what would have happened if it was a girl instead. my aunt also told that girl that if she ever spoke against my aunt, my aunt would hurt her and her baby and demanded that she return to my aunt's house the moment she was out of jail.....of course nothing was done by the authorities, but i can't imagine living in that fear.

I appreciate your coverage of this story but you left out quite a few facts that I feel are very relevant to giving her victims their due respect, even in death.. I can remember how I cried the day I found out Terry died.. 😭 William's role was much greater than disposal,he took an active role in beating and punishing the other kids and while I can somewhat understand the impossible position he was put in initially,he was also given opportunities to save them and he didn't.. This is a story that will never be far from my heart because I am a survivor of horrific childhood abuse and I can unfortunately relate to so much of what they went through.. 😔

The problem with saying "he was in positions where he could have saved them" is that for a normal person this is true but he is also a victim of abuse. These people never had proper social education and even for Terry it was years before she did anything to tell the story. Terry also helped out but it'd be stupid to punish her for things she did as a child under extreme duress. I think giving William any prison time would have been a mistake and therapy was the best route. It's the same with Robert, when Elenor was questioning why'd he'd rob a bar. It's because he grew up in such a twisted backward enviorment. It's not just abuse it's isolation and segration. I'm not going to give a psych essay on this but there's a reason many victims like these kids fail to seek help when given a chance. Just look at Susan that is the type of thing that happens often and all the children witnessed it. Putting fault in William for not getting help is like putting fault in Sheila for not getting help when she was out alone as a prostitute. It's not as simple as calling the police. The police are usually garbage you can't put all your faith in them you need a backup which is why Shelia opted to save money

I'd never blame Terry because she was very young and had no control over anything.. She actually took several beatings for feeding Sheila and giving her water.. She didn't shoot Suesan,Theresa did.. Not just a child, but someone who was literally in fear for his life, in no uncertain terms. Personally I don't think people should get prison time at all in situations where they're clearly acting under duress. I agree with the state giving him counseling, but I don't agree with his brother getting prison time (even if it was being served concurrently with his robbery/murder charge)

He grew up, moved out and made a life for himself. Got married, had a child - and yet he still remained silent? Why is it that only the girls, who all experienced the worst of the abuse, were the only ones fighting to save each other? I completely understand that they were all under duress while living in that house, and did whatever was asked of them because they were in fear for their lives. I’m not mad about his actions as a child living in a life threatening situation and doing what it takes to survive, but I am mad that once he was out of it he did nothing. The same with the oldest son, he moved out and got away and never once thought to report it and save his siblings? Never thought to try and check in on them? Why was it only the girls, who were arguably in the most danger and taking the worst of the abuse, that tried to save not just themselves but each other?

Everything is so sad about this case, the mom being such a monster, the siblings who left and didn’t report the mom, the little girl who was not believed when she clearly was in danger 😢💔 as a daughter who grew up in a hispanic home it really breaks my heart and brings back sad sad memories. Our children need protection so badly, they need to be heard and believed 🥺

Every time Eleanor mentioned Theresa as a two time killer (running away), I always thought about her (Theresa) as a THREE time killer, considering she was never punished for the murder of her first husband. It also makes me wonder if she would have been locked away the first time then maybe this would have never happened. 😢

It's devastating that Susan was so so close to freedom and saving her siblings. Cases with children tortured by parental figures are the toughest for me, I just think the unbearable hopelessness of only knowing hate coming to you must be one of the hardest things to overcome. I will never understand how someone can be so cruel to a child. That woman does not deserve to have kids, this case is the definition of “all kids deserve parents, but not all parents deserve kids.” The fact that she could be eligible for parole is an insult to the lives of all those kids and what they endured. Americas judicial system is honestly disgusting.

Honestly, my mother tried to kill me. I had been living with her, after I became too ill to work. I had psoriatic arthritis and that was the end of employment for me, and she asked me to go and live with her for a bit. As soon as I got there I knew it was a mistake. She was absolutely seething. After 6 months, I had to run off back to London and try to get help. Nobody believed me. Nobody really cared. Essentially if you pitch up, you have no clothes because you've left them all behind, you are only one up from looking like a homeless person, you've run off, then for all intents and purposes you look like a lunatic. It was awful. 😥I went to the hospital because I still felt ill (she poisoned me) and the nurse promised a blood test would be done. But they lied and sent it off for a CBC which just checks your iron levels. 😖 About a week after I managed to get a proper test and there was arsenic present, but the doctor said it might have been from eating fish. 🙄😡 Well of course by that time there was not as much left after over a week since I'd been poisoned. It validated what I had said, but still nobody would take any notice. I could still cry about that. I had none of my clothes, only a few things I had managed to buy, so I didn't even look like ME. And all I had was a load of people treating me like a loony. The world really is very cruel!

Hopefully you never have to interact with your mom again if you don’t want to, and if you do, it’s in much bigger settings. You deserve to be here, and the fact that a parent would try and poison their kid makes me so angry. I truly hope she realizes one day that you have amounted to more than she could ever hope to.

The same thing that happened to Susan, happened to me. I tried to run away from home and got sent to a mental health facility. I told them that my mom was abusing me, and they didn't believe me because my mom is so manipulative she convinced them that I was delusional. That mental health facility was eventually shut down because it was such a bad place to go for children and teenagers.

What happened to Susan breaks my soul into pieces. How can someone endure that much abuse, torture, torment, and anguish in their life? And from her own mother, someone who is meant to love you unconditionally. I don’t understand but it makes me sick to my stomach that this girl was brave enough to seek help, against all instincts and her worst fears came true. I just don’t understand how that can happen to someone, let alone a child. It’s deeply disturbing.

I wish someone would do an in-depth video on Kelly Brannen. She went missing from where I live, Live Oak, FL. She was passing through and her and her fiancé got into a fight and she was seen getting into a truck. She was at a local Mexican restaurant that is known for putting GHB in girls drinks, over charging cards, AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING. They made a document on Paramount plus. They found her pet chicken at the restaurant cooks home. There’s still no arrests made. There’s been too many missing women or unsolved murders over here. This is a small town. This girl was so colorful and had stopped by the bar I bartend. The staff of Armando’s is barred from my bar. If anyone would do this story justice, it would be you, Danielle or Kendall without a doubt. Kelly Brannen is her name once again.
