Weren't the police given the ability to look through the room for any indications of why she was murdered though? Usually with crime cases detectives will look in areas where the person may have been or would have spent their time to try and get a lead. It’s plausible that they would want to check her room considering they could find out more on why she was killed. It just confuses me because I underhand her parents were grieving, but wouldn’t they want to give their daughter justice with any means necessary?

Yeah I feel like there were a few things (just based on this video) that the police dropped the ball on. If they thought she was a runaway, they would have wanted to look for clues indicating where she might have gone, right? And, why didn't anyone check the timestamp of the CCTV vs the time the girls said they picked her up the first time? Did they not ask the other girls directly if drugs were involved or anything? If they thought that drugs were involved, could they have conducted a search for that evidence? Then they would have found the blood.

To think that Skylar went out to that forest that night with the sole goal of patching things up with her best friends only to be betrayed and viciously murdered is heartbreaking. While I understand the fear and paranoia surrounding being potentially outed, it’s absolutely no excuse to murder a beautiful girl in cold blood. She fought for her life and they didn’t hold back. They are monsters and should not be sympathized with. The absolute lack of remorse is sickening. They belong in prison. RIP Skylar you did not deserve that at all. You should be alive. @@z.z.1876 The "Amber Alert" system is *SOO Misunderstood!!* We need a different alerting system tbh- I mean like an alert with different prerequisites than the *VERY* straightforward- VERY strict and well-defined (perhaps too much so...) AMBER ALERT criteria. It actually has more to do with needing to be abducted and knowing the car details that the child is in FOR SURE- which is why it is not the easiest "Alert" to send out. You need very specific information. It's more of a Public BOLO- it isn't a text- all phones in the (Sorry- but again, fairly KNOWN general area of the kid) go off with a horrible screeching sound. More than 1 time. A lot of people really dislike it which I find odd. Jesus ppl, it isn't that much of a damn inconvenience that ppl make it out to be .... but that's besides the point I wanted to make. @@brischarrer I never understand when people get annoyed by Amber Alert notifications either. It’s horribly selfish IMO. A friend of mine made a complaint on social media about getting an alert. Then not even a month later a friend of his had an Amber Alert go out on her child who had been unlawfully taken by the non-custodial parent. So at least my friend learned, and owned, and corrected his selfishness. It’s just so sad it was because of another missing child. I also agree that the criteria is too strict for an Amber Alert.

Shelia is a true psychopath in that she was sitting with Skylar's room with her parents crying crocodile tears; Sky was their only daughter and she pretending to offer comfort to them when she knew where Skylar was and was had happened. Skyler was under 18, so the cellular contract for her phone would have been in her parents' name (since the law in the US doesn't permit minors to contact with cellular phone companies).So, technically, being that we're talking about a minor, iPhone should have been required, not only morally but legally, to give over the location. Unless perhaps the phone was already paid off or was bought somewhere other than through the service provider. Still, being a minor, the info should have been provided in an effort to locate this child IMO. This is not the only time that company has been guilty of not providing information that could have caught a killer.
@kdphotos4691

They could if the contract was under their names (I don't know if it was or not). The reason these companies don't give over information is because all that would need to happen is for a different scenario to be the reason for them wanting to find her. Example - if she had run away and it was abusers or even murderers who wanted the information. Yes, it hurts cases like this, but phone companies *have* given over information when there was enough evidence to prove that the person was in danger. In this case, at the time, the phone company didn't have enough information to be able to hand over access because of privacy laws. Yes, it is tragic, but it would also be tragic if the case were to do harm to Skylar.

As a teenager girl about to go into Highschool, this is terrifying. I relate to Skylar a lot in her personality and her relationships. I have a few friends I’ve been kind of distant with and are going to the same Highschool as. The thought of them taking me out into the woods and stabbing me because I’ve been distant or because they didn’t like the way I’ve been acting terrifies me. If anyone invites me to go out very late without anyone knowing, this story is the reason I will say no.

As a lesbian, being outted as a teenager is a terrifying situation to go through. However, it is never a reason to murder. The most brave thing you can do is take it as it comes and stand up for yourself. Be kind, be understanding and forgiving once you've felt hurt.. and know there is nothing wrong with you. But never ever consider hurting another person because you have been hurt.

I just want to say it was also common knowledge that Shiela would kill defenceless animals with her car as some sort of sick game. She would run over rabbits and yell “20 points!” with Rachel, Skylar and another friend, Daniel, in the car, knocking Sky and Dan sick to their stomachs. A true, true psychopath. It wasn’t just a fear of being outed, at least not with Shelia, she was genuinely just twisted. Source: Pretty Little Killers, a factual book documenting all the ins and outs of this case.

Theory: I believe it’s quite possible since Rachel is the rich kid, Sheila ended up taking most of the blame, and the story came out like it did. Sheila was the one who came up with this and decided it, she’s the one who planned it, Rachel was just along for the ride. Sheila was the one who delivered the killing blows ALONE and who went for Skyler’s nick, since Rachel by lucky coincidence (for her) had her knife wrestled out from her, despite being physically the biggest out of the three. I believe they’re both equally evil and vicious, but I don’t buy that poor Rachel was so passive during all of this, yet this same Rachel who suggested they should just distance from Skyler, stabbed her so viciously. I think she told her parents, who got her some excellent lawyers and came up with a good story to paint her in favorable light, and so that the other kid who’s middle class would take responsibility for most of it, and make Rachel out to be the “follower” impressionable party who’s not normally like this, since she’s so remorseful and so unsettled by what happened, crying and breaking down etc. Prior to her confession police and school both reported they were acting in the same manner, prior to her confession “family” reported she’s been so shaken, and I believe this is when she told them and they got her some good lawyers who advised her on how to behave to eventually look better to the jury, while Sheila was on the dark that a confession was on the works and continued to behave the same way and stuck to the story that both of them firmly stuck to before since they’re equally vicious people. One more thing that worked greatly to her advantage, is that she’s the one to go first to authorities, maybe she couldn’t tell a different story that’s similar but less bad, or downplay her part anymore then she already did, because there is no telling if Sheila would confess, since I think this whole Sheila unremorseful mastermind story isn’t completely accurate. We haven’t heard from her family or their story about how their daughter was like, we only heard from the privileged family’s perspective. I’m not defending Sheila, she’s horrible and evil, I’m pointing out that she wasn’t on this on her own. Edit: just finished the video, turns out Rachel took a plea deal (surprise surprise) despite literally having a motive a lot stronger than Sheila, she’s the one with a background against lgbtq. While both are teens, so it’s hard to come out, if your family is religious it can be scary, while if they’re not I don’t think the motive is nearly as strong. At the end it’s really a very common thing, when a crime is committed with one or more of the persons involved is rich, the less privileged party always ends up taking the fall. Sheila looked so bad because she had worse counsel

Hi, my friend and her baby were murdered in October 2020. It was initially reported to The Patch as a murder/suicide, which I think really messed up the investigation. Just a couple months ago, the family received their death certificates ruling their deaths as a homicide. Unfortunately it sounds like the police really missed some important steps and are now having a hard time finding information. Additionally, it was not covered on any major or local news outlet besides The Patch. We believe we know who the murder (possible murderers) is/are, but we really need help getting their story out there as still no one has been charged. If you are interested in covering her case, it would mean so much to her friends and family. I can give you the full story, and get you in touch with family members. What happened to her was horrific. I remember the day the found her. We threw a big party a few nights before at my friends property. Then just days later they found her body within like a hundred yard of the entrance to that property. It shook our town. Parents looked at their children’s friends with more judgment and suspicion for a long time. No one talks about it anymore. But we all know what happened. Rachel had at least a little remorse to stay away from the Neese’s, again, not saying she’s innocent in any way, but o do believe Rachel had some remorse on some level, but she still did it and she deserves to rot for it. I think both of the girls hyped each other up about it, but I truly believe that if shelia hadn’t been caught, she would have done it again.

I don't believe that the secret relationship was the motive behind this murder at all, at most it may have been a manipulation tactic on Sheila's part to encourage Rachel's involvement . I think the real and only reason for this sickening and abhorrent act was that it was a thrill kill , pure and simple. Both of these girls are evil and I don't believe that Sheila in particular should ever be deemed safe to be returned to society. My heart goes out to Skylars family .
@BBrunnel
@BBrunnel Жыл бұрын
I do think Sheila was jealous of Skylar though. Sheila came from a pretty poor background, and I think a documentary said that she had a shit upbringing too. Seeing Skylar come from a loving home and having supportive parents probably threw off her the rails. Not to mention, she was an attention seeker and was loud and over confident while Skylar was quiet but pretty nice so people were probably attracted to that more than Sheila's rambunctious personality. The fact she even started hurting her neck said a lot to me on Sheila's part. I do think Sheila's part was very narcissistic though. Although she didn't like Skylar, she was angry that Skylar started moving on from her and became enraged as a result. I know narcissists get very angry when you leave them aka reject them, and so, Sheila decided to get revenge in return. I'm not quite sure about Rachel's motive; hers confuses me a bit because she never really had a reason. I do think it's more than a thrill kill because there are usual signs to pinpoint thrill kills like killing of animals, violent outbursts, watching violent stuff online, morbid fascinations etc. These two don't seem to have had any of these qualities outside of planning it for months.

it's easy to say that, but i don't think it's their fault. the killers were teenage girls. it's weirder to jump to the conclusion that they're planning an actual murder than to think they're joking around. suspension of disbelief is a very strong thing, especially when these are people you know and interact with on a daily basis. it's also extremely hard to accuse them of planning a murder. remember that it's a very serious accusation, and all you have is your word. and it would literally be you against the world. no one would believe you. even the police with all that evidence before rachel's confession, didn't even think of the possibility that they were murderers. so please don't pin the blame on innocents. i know it's heartbreaking to read and hear about stories like these, but the only ones at fault are the murderers themselves. saying that their schoolmates and teachers were bystanders and should've done something, is like saying that skylar should have just ignored their texts and not gone out with them because she already knew they were trouble. but it's never that easy, isn't it?

Normally listening to these never really faced me, probably just because I'm not good with emotions, but listening to this one really made me feel anger and sadness. It just infuriates me that Shiela had the audacity to ask to go to Skylar's room and had an emotional moment with her mother, knowing what she did. And just the fact that Skylar was just asking "why" as the two people she potentially trusted most were stabbing her like lunatics makes me feel really sick. They could've been civil and ACTUALLY talk to her about their friendship. If they just talked about it, Skylar would be alive, and Shiela and Rachel wouldn't be in jail.

I lived close to both crimes as they happened....Chad Isaak's murder spree happened just blocks from my house. You are always sooo respectful of the cases you cover and go into all the details everyone else skips over (like what the victim's were like, the hobbies they enjoyed, etc). Would love to see these cases covered with the respect they deserve. Also, there was a case from the 90s here, Michael Neugebauer, a boy/young adult who murdered his entire family and went on the run. My mom and dad were actually pulled over because my dad drove the same vehicle they were looking for and matched Michael's description. Luckily my grandpa was following behind in another car, helping my parents move, and was able to corroborate that my dad wasn't the man they were looking for.

If you want to keep your love life private, don't force your mutual friend to watch you make out. It's not like they were hiding it and Skylar somehow found out and was blackmailing them (which still would not excuse premeditated murder). I think Sheila probably got off on the risk of their "secret" getting out plus the obvious discomfort she caused Skylar. I wonder if she got a psychopathic thrill from inserting herself right up close to her victim's grieving parents and offering help. She went beyond just some obligatory tears and searches. Sheila could have avoided dealing with Skylar's parents by pretending to deal with her shock and worry by withdrawing. Instead, she repeatedly put herself in a position to get sympathy from her victim's parents and observe their pain up close.

I was also part of a "best friend trio" as a teen, and there was some jealousy when two of us would hang out without the other, or when one would hang out with someone outside of the trio. Also a lot of shit talking about the friend that wasn't there when it was just two of us together. None of us would have ever murdered anyone or even bullied anyone, but I'm still ashamed of how I acted toward my friends as a teen.

I live in Morgantown, had a boxing gym there There were 2 goth high school girls that worked out there. They went to the other high school in town, but then I asked them about Skylar's disappearence about 72 hours after it happened? They told me that she had been stabbed to death and left in the woods by a student lesbian couple so as not to be outed. When they left, I turned to the other 20 people in there and said 'i sure don't know what happened; but THAT ain't it. Took the cops 6 months? I've always wondered about that. RIP.

Not trying to be rude just genuinely curious why didn’t you tell police about it ? It could’ve probably been solved even faster.

Poor Skylar, she would’ve been amazing in the criminal justice system, it’s sick and twisted that the person who felt like a sister to her could’ve done that to her showing no remorse.

I feel so sorry for Skylar’s parents. Imagine believing you’re going through the same thing as your daughter’s friends, giving them support and letting them help search with you, just to find out they’re the people responsible for it and wanted to do it for 9 months. They wanted to break off their relationship, and instead of just saying it they took away an innocent and promising girl’s life.

They were afraid of skylar blackmailing her If i was to be blackmailed and exposed i would just beat that person up a little bit tbh

@@Unbreakable245 I feel like it was stupid to think she would’ve blackmailed them. She was a goody two shoes , she probably wasn’t even like that. She clearly loved them and wanted to keep being their friends , so why blackmail them? It doesn’t really make sense.

I totally understand the distaste for giving Rachel the plea deal. It's indescribably horrific what they did to Skylar. HOWEVER, if the judge went back on his word by rescinding the plea deal after a confession, this takes away the incentive for future criminals to confess to a crime where they know they are backed into a corner. They can just deny, deny, deny, have a really lengthy, costly trial where they are still proven guilty anyway but still get maximum time. And other people involved in the crime could still be roaming free. It's a far from perfect system, but I understand why the judge made the call he did.
