Sammy Jo is a 16 year old Irish Traveller. She is bright, blingy and bubbly with plenty to say for herself. She lives in a house in Rochdale with her 3 siblings and as the oldest girl helps her mum by ‘cleaning up’ every day. She hates cleaning but knows that if there’s a rumour that a travelling girl doesn’t clean, she’s not gonna get that husband.
At 16. but Sammy Jo is not allowed a mobile phone, as her family don't want her chatting to boys on it. But anyway SJ is holding off at the moment as she is looking for a bit of her own independence and time before that all important wedding....which incidentally, for Sammy Jo will be BIG.

The little girl at the beginning had to be coached to answer the questions about why her communion was so important, all she really cared about was looking good, these girls are far to young for spray tans, heavy makeup and dresses that look like cheap, tacky costumes. As far as the religion goes they just follow what their told without question, they should be able to make up their own minds when they are old enough to understand and not just told what to believe.

@CelestialK1t
@CelestialK1t Жыл бұрын
Well, to me it makes more sense. To them, those clothes aren’t like they are considered to our communities, simple. It’s because they have so much respect for themselves and such high morals that they can get away with dressing ‘like that’ where as most other communities wouldn’t find it acceptable. What shocks me the most in looking through comments on these videos is how many people don’t seem to get that it isn’t our culture to understand. we are looking at it through the veil of being raised wth different ideologies and people around us. Of course we aren’t going to get it entirely but we can at least try

@@maggiemae7539 yes, it is high morals. Just because you are to ignorant to believe it doesn’t mean it is true. Our society tends to put so much emphasis on girls showing skin is distracting to boys, will get them raped. Calling them slurs and such for trying to be body confident. In THIS community, they have such high morals and expectations of behaviour from both sides that they don’t see it like we do and there is nothing wrong with that. All the girls dress like that, and it’s accepted within their community. That’s nothing we as outsiders should be angry about. Them loving their bodies and thinking about things the way they want and are taught. If they were harming you the yes of course you could get angry. But what they are doing causes NO harm to ANYONE. @@kaysumner3082 … that seems like a bit of a random question, but it’s easy to answer so I’ll get that question out of the way first ~ there’s nothing wrong with me :) Thanks for explaining to me about how some society’s (apart from the obvious ones) teach that it is considered a sign of having no self respect if a person wears revealing or non conservative clothing. I’ve never been influenced by society and being autistic, unless someone like yourself kindly explains nuances like this to me, I inevitably misunderstand what’s being said 😫 I also choose my clothes according to my sensory needs so it wouldn’t occur to me to consider what somebody else might deduce about me according to the clothes I wear, although if a person knows anything about autism and they see me more than a few times in a relatively short space of time, I’m sure they’d deduce that I’m autistic just by observing my clothing as I wear the same clothes repeatedly until they wear out or they change, for example, they get baggy over time, and I definitely don’t look like anybody else in my society 🤪 and I was born, raised and live in England and people here aren’t made (by saying ‘made’, I’m guessing you mean forced? 🤷🏻‍♀️) to believe certain things, and thinking about that, I’m not even sure how that could even be achieved 🤔 I guess hypnosis would work if the person being made to believe a lie is receptive to being hypnotised 🤷🏻‍♀️ Your last couple of words made me chuckle 🤭 I’m guessing you either have Tourette's syndrome or maybe echolalia ~ either way, you made me chuckle ☺️ thank you 🙏🏽 and thanks again for the explanation, it’s given me food for thought ❤️

I have wondered the same especially on one wage as the woman stays home. I am less cynical than others though. I am guessing those who live in a caravans have less debt and lower utility bills to pay than those in big houses. Smaller space is less money spent on furniture and furnishings too. Less school related costs of daughters are home after 11. My daughters school uniforms, PE kit, trips, equipment, extra curricular lessons add up to literally thousands of pounds a year. Imagine how much you could save if you didn’t have a mortgage or high rent and council tax. If you had a smaller property to heat and put electric to. The gypsy men I know (I only know a few tbh) work exceptionally hard and long hours doing jobs which many people feel they are “too good” for. Collecting scrap metal, doing drives, seasonal farm work, events work like security etc. They may not have one well paying job but lots of little jobs adds up.

@@emilycound1427 have you actually lived on a halting site? You save money by living in a caravan the same way you save money for shoes by cutting off your feet. Caravans need to be cleaned more often to collect dirt and moisture to prevent the growth of mould. Caravans need more upkeep and have shorter lives than a normal house. So six of one half dozen of another. Credit? No intuition will give gypsies credit due to nomadic lifestyle. Why should gypsies works? They get FULL social welfare at 16, settled youths don't get it until 20, if that. Travellers do not pay tax or are nett tax payers. If I didn't have to pay tax I would be better off too.

I mean to each their own, but as a Catholic we are also expected to be modest. It’s bizarre because it’s a bit contradictory in my opinion…. The kingdom of Christ is not a brothel, and it is important that we teach our children to be humble and modiste…. receiving Jesus should not be about getting your nails done, having a pretty dress made, getting a spray tan and then throwing a temper tantrum because you’re not getting your way…. All glory should go to God. I guess it’s just that I wouldn’t want my eight-year-olds looking like showgirls and acting with such a sense of entitlement that it’s nauseating… but they’re not my children, and it’s not my way of life …it’s a free country and they have the right so long as they are not hurting anyone to do as they please.

… the kingdom of Christ isn’t a pEd0 paradise either but most catholic priests didn’t seem to get that memo, so they won’t give a f*cK what the girls wear as they’re not really into girls, they usually prefer the boys
@lilydewinters4729
@lilydewinters4729 Жыл бұрын
@@autumn5852 Unfortunately, child sexual abuse is a problem everywhere, not just in the Catholic Church. In terms of what’s happening in the Catholic Church I think changes need to be made to help protect our children, because it is a problem. Child, sexual abuse is not limited to Catholic priests. Journalists often interpret new stories in terms of existing archetypes. Once the “pedophile priest” became an archetype in the press’s mind, new accounts of priestly misconduct were poured into that mold. Statistics show child sexual abuse in Catholicism is at about 10%, but it also shows the same if not higher percentage for other religious groups. Of that 10%, 9.5% were homosexuals and abusers of boys. However, the cases reported by other religious communities are often considered isolated incidents, when in fact they are not. We shouldn’t compare the actions of a human to the nature and intent of God. All human beings, and those that act as representatives of God, are not impervious to sin. This is not a “catholic priest” problem. The fact that the great majority of cases involved male homosexual abuse of adolescents, suggests that if there were fewer homosexuals in the priesthood there would be fewer cases of clerical sexual abuse. The problem is predatory homosexual men. We should all admit they’re there….and these predatory gay men have found their way into the Catholic priesthood in inordinately large numbers. I think it’s disgraceful, and I think the media needs to address this. The gay community needs to address this. The problem is, the secular media in the United States are overwhelmingly sympathetic to the homosexual movement, and they do not report on these cases for what they really are. Further, many such individuals have sought ordination as a way of avoiding their sexual temptations rather than dealing with them, only to find that ministry does not cure their problem. The “gay” lifestyle is inherently narcissistic, placing it at odds with the sacrifices of priestly life. Those tempted toward that lifestyle frequently are doctrinally unsound, they often have problems with obedience, and they tend to have a high defection rate. The way we represent ourselves to God has nothing to do with any of Gods servants… we have free will, and know and understand Gods will. The word of God is what should guide us and help define our intention. The word of God is what tells us that we should be modest, and that has nothing to do with the sins of any Catholic priest..

The ladies are lovely and I really believe the girls are chaste. I can see where there could be controversy with the younger girls looking so sexualized. I wish however, the girls (and boys too) had better access to education and that their culture emphasized education as important as opposed to constant reinforcement that their roles are limited to cleaning and having babies.
@autumn5852

I’d rather clean and have babies than get ‘educated’; being educated won’t help continue the human race and I’d rather live in a clean house than one that’s full of sH1t, but I know not everyone appreciates a clean home and not everyone values the work that a mother does and instead, like you, they think that being a mother is a waste of a life and makes you even less important than an uneducated person, who I guess in your opinion should just do the world a favour and die, because raising a family in a loving and clean home is clearly a total waste of a life in you’re view, which is fine but I wouldn’t share your views with your mother if I were you, she might not appreciate you looking so down on her
