This case hits home. My grandpa was actually a homicide detective on this case. Marty Jones was one of the victims found in the boat shed, and he was my grandpa's cousin. The case affected my grandpa tremendously, and he passed away in 1977.

as a psychology student, you starting your story from his childhood and parents is very satisfying. Because our adult personality is the result of our upbringing basically. Love it!

My undergrad is in psychology. It’s a hard job that pays nothing, but I loved my time as a student. Of course your experiences largely shape your personality (biology plays a significant role) BUT: it’s way more interesting to study childhood experiences. My one and only published paper is about exactly that. How certain childhood experiences are strong predictors of certain future behaviors.

Social institutions like school-church-army-prisons in certain cases was direct triggers of creating such cases in soviet society.

Please cover the case on Jessica Judd! She murdered her children gruesomely. Some of my family members know this family personally. Jessica’s family used to live in the forest. Sometimes when they needed wood for fires, they would use horses to haul giant logs through the trees, whilst they were balancing on the logs going at insane speeds. My family member witnessed so many bizarre things while he was visiting this family. Very interesting case, but very sad as well.

What really makes me angry about this case is the fact that the police stopped searching for victims as soon as Corll surpassed the previous record for known victims. Multiple witnesses came forward with other locations where they had noticed him digging suspiciously including one couple who saw him and his accomplices burying a long parcel on another beach. It makes me angry to think of all of those families who could have gotten closure.

It would be cool if she could bring other people interested in true crime for collabs. They could add their own research and knowledge as well as theories (on unsolved cases) on other true crime stories. Amanda from Smosh often talks about true crime on their podcast, she would be such a good guest on a series like this.

Absolutely absolutely absolutely horrifying, like the John Wayne Gacy case, can’t even begin to fathom what these boys went through. The fact that some were found with their mouths wide open in the thick plastic sheet afterwards brought me to tears. Great coverage Kris, rest in peace to all of the victims, and I seriously hope this guy is burning in the absolute depths of hell where he experiences the same, somehow even worst pain that he put these innocent boys through.

This is the best example that humans are capable of the most horrific things imaginable. It always terrifies me learning about this kind of stuff. We all know infamous serial killers and watched slasher films. But to really hear about what kinds of people commit these crimes and how horrible they are. It’s horrible and just shows that even though we’re human, if a situation is bad enough like the candy man’s. We are able to be actual demons.

I've been taking a psychology class, (I'm a middle schooler btw) for the past 3 or so weeks and I asked my teacher if I could do the psychology behind murderers, and he agreed, knowing I am interested in true crime. You bringing up his childhood and then getting into what he did really shows you went deep into research. Yes childhood has stuff to do with what Dean became, and what you become when you become an adult.

i mean yes and no? a ton of kids unfortunately endure trauma at the hands of their parents but that doesn't turn them into serial killers. it's really more nature than nurture, it's just that if you fuck up the nurturing part then the nature really goes ham and you get serial killers.
@liamnehren1054
@liamnehren1054 5 ай бұрын
it's not weird at all, It's both a nature and nurture thing, there are some structures in the brain that handle things like stress and if they are badly formed or broken due to head trauma, cause people to become that brand of monster when they come into contact with such a situation. This is more likely to be a born in issue but there are a lot of reports of serial or spree killers having had a head injury soon before the first time they showed symptoms.

@@ulazerg7163 yeah I totally agree, different time periods but I feel like if John Wayne Gacy was around (caught for killing males that also randomly disappeared) in that time before Dean, someone should have said something or noticed but like you said signs like that was unnoticeable and difficult to see and plus different locations/ states. I think what I was mostly talking about (when I said that the family saw the signs) how the employees at the moms candy factory had told her that something weird was going on with Dean and I think one employee actually said that Dean tried to make advances on him, the employee told the mom and she just didn’t want to believe it and fired the boy. I think before he went into the military, pretty sure that’s right😅. I definitely see what you mean though and I’m glad you wrote it, it’s making the gears in my head turn. Now I want to read up more about these murders/murderers and see it in different perspectives (as a person back then compared to a 2023 person that notices those type of signs) because before I wasn’t really doing that
