My hot take is Hakeem Olajuwon is heavily underrated and arguably the 2nd best center of all time. He was unstoppable on offence and a menace on the defense with how many blocks he racked up through his career. Also retired top 10 in blocks, points, rebounds, and steals. The only person to ever do this by the way.

My issue with Curry is how much of his value comes from his 3 point shooting? Is he an all time great? Yes. Is he a current great? Yes. My issue is if he wasn't as good at 3 point shooting (or in a massive slump like he is right now), how effective is he really? Can he be a solid point guard and run an offense? I think so. The thing is I just don't see him just running the offense that often. Granted I don't watch every single Warriors game. I'd like some honest and intelligent feedback on that from someone who actually knows basketball.

I think it should be changed to Fred being the most underrated/ slept on NBA player ever. Fred always knew he could ball. He just needed a stage to show it. Yes he got better, but that’s what NBA players are expected to do. If he was hot garbage, like a high school bench warmer becoming an NBA allstar, then I’d say most improved. But Fred was a stud in highschool and college so he didn’t really make a drastic improvement. He was just slept on by all the scouts.

My hot take is that it is absolutely pointless trying to find a GOAT. You cannot objectively compare people from different eras and who played different positions, who impacted the game in different ways, whose championships, MVPs, All-NBA Selections don't hold the same weight to everyone. It's impossible to agree on what is more valuable. One might say that all accolades are valuable yes, but you will always put some over others. Hot take: 2018 Houston Rockets are one of the greatest teams in recent NBA history and definitely the best team to not win the ring (except 73-9 warriors). That team almost won against the best team in league history, but catastrophic amount of bad luck, injuries and all time team choke ruined game 7. 99 out 100 times that Houston team wins game 7, this was just never before seen collapse. Against prime KD warriors. This team deserves respect. This is also my answer to Jimmy's take that Harden cant be THE guy on ring winning team.

I don’t agree with that. James harden was phenomenal that season but the team 3 point consistency was ass. In recent NBA, it was an atypical team to watch because of the small ball line up.but since they didn’t reach championship. I can’t say their one of the greatest in recent NBA.

Hot take: Barring death accidents/ devastating injuries, KG is the unluckiest player in NBA history. In 2000, the Wolves lost 5 first round picks because of the Joe Smith incident which basically means that the Wolves can’t surround KG with help aside from free agency but very few players like to go the Wolves. When they did, they reached the Western conference finals but unfortunately, Cassell got injured. Then Sprewell thinks he can’t feed his family leaving KG with no help. To add insult to injury, his bestfriend and mentor, Malik Sealy died in 2001 who happens to be the 2nd best player on the wolves team that season. KG’s teammates had a combined one all NBA selection in Minnesota when he played for 14 seasons. For comparison, Kobe had more than 10. In Boston, the Celtics were on pace to reach 70 wins in 2009 but KG tore his MCL. In 2010 Game 7 NBA Finals in the 4th quarter, the refs gave the Celtics only 3 free throws meanwhile the Lakers have 20 in the 4TH QUARTER ALONE and don’t tell me that they actually foul them because I’ve seen a lot of BS fouls there favoring the Lakers in that game. The Celtics actually shot better from the field, from the three, and in the foul line that game but the Lakers won. Also, people try to say that KG’s contract was huge and he was greedy but people don’t know back then that KG was 21 when he signed that contract and he was actually younger than Duncan that time who was a rookie. If you give a 21 year old today that would make 50M$ a year, they would take it any day.

The man led his T-Wolves to seven straight first round losses, enough said. I got KG somewhere in my top 30-35 all-time range, the 6th best PF ever. He had to join up with other stars to win a title. He's all-time great, but I just disagree with your sentiment that he's the unluckiest player ever. He was an alpha in terms of his big barking dog personality, but when the playoffs rolled around and the game got tight, he acted more like a little beta dog with a little whimper. He needed a great scorer on his team to close the game out for him. He was way too passive in those big games, it's why the T-Wolves never really got far except for 2004. He had Paul Pierce to close out games for him later on in Boston.

@@QuestionEverything562 this idea that KG needed an elite player next to him in his prime is so cap. He just needed 1 all star level talent guard at best and players who actually can defend a chair and shoot league average. Y’all like to praise them overrated mfs like Dirk and Giannis who y’all say carried their teams to chips but both of them had elite defenders and good shooters around them KG in his whole time in Minnesota never had 1 above average defender in his tenure. The 1 season he had some ok teammates he had the 1 seed and then his help got hurt during the playoffs and he was forced to play the point as a 7 footer during the WCF losing to the Lakers in 6 games. Why you think when he got next to some defenders and shooters he started winning? His scoring isn’t even bad it’s not all time level but it’s good enough to win a chip. The problem with why people say he can’t score in the playoffs is because his teammates literally couldn’t shoot consistently enough to warrant not double teaming him and forcing him to pass up the ball.
@QuestionEverything562
@QuestionEverything562 2 жыл бұрын
@@6dotz @.... One all-star level point guard? He had Sam Cassell who was a terrific floor general PG, he was also an all-star in that very season when KG finally got past the first round. As soon as Cassell got there, they got to the WCFs, but you're admitting to me that a superstar player like KG couldn't elevate his team enough to get past the first round for seven straight whole seasons without Cassell? He also had Sprewell avg 20 ppg in that series against the Lakers. If anything, it was not the T-Wolves defense that let them down against the Lakers, it was their inability to score down the stretch. The Wolves held Shaq to 20 ppg, and Kobe to 24 ppg on 41% shooting. You joke on Dirk and Giannis for actually leading their teams to a title, yet your boy KG couldn't even beat or remotely stop Dirk Nowitzki in the 2003 playoffs while KG was in his physical prime. Dirk avg 33 ppg with 52% shooting on KG's supposed lockdown defensive a** while absolutely sweeping KG off the floor 3-0. KG is the most overrated big of the 2000s, stop capping. KG's lack of offensive aggression is what typically held the Wolves back from succeeding past the 1st damn round. KG was mostly just a great rebounder and great defender, but his offense would go missing when needed the most. Sprewell would want the ball more than him in the 4th qtr. His leadership was also very questionable, he was a lot of rah rah, but not a whole lot of strategy. Cassell brought the real leadership and guidance to that team.

The rules and style of play dictate the game and shape the players. I agree with your take, but then the opposite is true as well. Great modern offensive players wouldn't be as potent offensively if they played the style and rules of the 80s/90s, and great offensive players of the past would have a load more freedom to play as they please making them even more lethal than they already were under the rules of today. MJ, Bird, Shaq, Kobe, Magic just to name a few would be pulling out astronomical offensive numbers today with the amount of freedom and space available. So I think it all balances out really.

@@neo-soul7779 I slightly disagree when you mentioned offensive players. Eras aren't only dictated by rules but also players, coaches and science/analytics. It should be more common to find Top 10 lists sorted by era - 58 - 78, 79 - 99, 2000 - 2019. Something like this. Comparing a player's stats from the 50s to somebody's stats today makes no sense. If memory serves, they weren't counting steals, blocks, or threes back then. There were many other differences, including the fact that the league wasn't fully integrated yet. =\ I don't mind there being an all-time list, but it's extremely difficult to make one accurately without understanding the eras well.
