Thanks for posting this. After 21 years I think I was a bit overdue to change my power steering fluid for the first time on my 2003 g35. I used a similar method, but I’d like to share a few additional tips to save time and make the job a bit less messy. I used the same method to disconnect the return line from the reservoir after first emptying the old fluid using an oil pump assembly that normally screws into the top of an oil can. Using a hand pump really let me get the vast majority of the old fluid out also by tilting the reservoir to one side after sliding it off its bracket assembly. To make a little more space to work, it is very easy to remove one screw holding the coolant reservoir and then slide the whole reservoir up and move it toward the radiator temporarily (without disconnecting any of the coolant lines). Next, instead of running a makeshift funnel down through the engine compartment, and below the splash guard, it was really easy to just take a one quart empty plastic oil bottle and pop it onto the disconnected return line for the power steering fluid, bending the hose down slightly, and place the quart/liter bottle as the receptacle for the power steering fluid coming up through the return line. The receptacle for the fluid could basically sit in the same space as the coolant reservoir normally sits. Using this method, it was really not even necessary to jack up the car at all as everything could be done from the top side looking into the engine bay. All the other steps were the same. No messy dripping, and no jacking the car, no removal of splash guard.

Good stuff - Thank you! I'm planning on using a pneumatic fluid extractor to pull from the return line so I don't risk making too much of a mess. Wish me luck!

IMHO, the PS Fluid should be changed every 60K miles to maximize the longevity of the PS Pump and Steering Rack. I go a step further. I attach a hose to the return line and insert it into a one gallon milk jug. With the engine Off, turn the wheel full left. Fill the reservoir to the top. Have your assistant turn the car On and have him turn the wheel full right and turn car Off. During this time your job was to maintain the reservoir full. Connect all the hoses back to correct locations. My method consumes about 3 to 4 quarts but ensures a complete flush of the PS Pump and Steering Rack.

Can you use Asian power steering fluid for it instead? That’s what I used. It said it’s good for Infiniti cars and couldn’t find the other kind at any automotive store near me.

No needed to change your fluid because it's still nice and Red. Appreciate the video. Thank you. Did you have the car on when you were rotating the steering wheel to get all the fluid out?

My fairlady Z (japanese version of 350z)2003 model year leaked steering oil even though it was parked & not driven. It has only 35000kms done so pretty much a new engine but it was in an opening parking with great heat from the sun. My question is can it leak own it's own when parked due to heat? Or it was already damaged.? What else should i look for?
@trumpetvq4453 Жыл бұрын
don't think the heat can cause the leak. maybe it was already damaged. have a look if the clamp is tight, cracked power steering line or cooler

Which viscosity and brand of engine oil are you using on your VQ?! (Am running synthetic 5W30 on my 35HR because am scared of engine oil pressure issue or so due to using thicker engine oil such as 5W40 although i want to use thicker one..)

My ps fluid is at 55,000 miles now and the steering makes a groaning noise when turning at low speeds and when not moving. It’s worse when the car is cold. I need to flush out that fluid

try to do a ps fluid flush first won't be a bad idea

Total waste of time IMHO. Its not like transmission oil change which should be done, every 100,000 Km, because it deteriorates because it gets contaminated. Look how clean that oil was that you took out.
@speedracer28312 жыл бұрын
I don't know, because I just had my 50k Trans flush (recommended by Infiniti) and I read a bunch that say it's not good to do that, it's a waste, etc..etc.. My car doesn't even have 50k yet, and the shifts are faster and smoother now. I guess it depends on what kind of driver you are. I'm a spirited driver, and push the car occasionally.

you have an oil catch can - why ? it is not direct injection.
@trumpetvq4453 Жыл бұрын
oil catch can reduce the amount of oil your engine go through
@MATALOMUSIC Жыл бұрын
