For those viewing this, some of these Commanders would be ranked higher in a different archetype, Slimefoot/Squee would be Reanimator, Thalia/Gitrog would be Lands(fall), etc.

I'm shocked Ghave's not on the list, if memory serves he was the OG aristocrat commander, or at least far and away one of the most versatile.

For me Meren should be in the S range, it is very stable and the recursion is excellent, it has several quicker combos and easier than those that involve the use of Mikaeus, in addition to the fact that the guardians to the graveyard are better in this deck than in any other another and are cheaper than the most powerful black tutors.

I stumbled onto yawg in the game knights episode about modern horizons where i saw the deck being played and thought "wait a minute, this is stupid... i wanna do that too" been in love with him ever since

I prefer the 1st teysa. Sac outlet, token generator, removal, and infinite combo piece all in one.

Chatterfang is by far my favorite on the list. Goes infinite with about everything and to to bash people in with squirrels. Whats not to love. Also i find my chatterfang deck just super resilient. The token doubling just allows you to boujce back from almost anything and having the abilty to basically wipe the board if you have enough black mana and squirrels is just amazing

I run Ayara and she's a hard A. I can whip up a ton of tokens to soften everyone up and then send em in for the kill or find other ways to get value from em

This list didn't have Mazireck Kraul Death Priest. He is easily an S tier and I'm frankly surprised he wasn't on the list

I love Elas Il-Kor. I have a Phyrexian focused deck around him

I think Ayara is very underrated as a commander. On first sight, she doesnt seem to do anything too special but she just combines all aspects of aristocrats super well. you gain life (which can be weaponized in black), you drain everyone, you can sac something (only once each turn but imagine what some of the other commanders would give for this ability), you can draw extra cards and on top you have 3 devotion with just her on the board, which in black can be very strong. grey merchant or abhorrent overlord usually cause huge swings and bloodghast is also such an annoyance for everyone else. she just synergyses with everything aristocrats do, which is why I would put her in A or B tier, from personal experience. I also think Savra is strong but I havent tried her yet (but will soon)

Meren was my first commander and I recently found out I've been playing her wrong and her counters don't drain. I think I'm going to update her to be a much more proliferate deck

Yawgmoth is one of my main engines in Jerren, Corrupted Bishop and he just does so much work

It's nice seeing Marchesa Clasic! getting some recognition. My main group know her and are ever wary of her, be it for her resilience, destruction or . . . her employee poaching practices~ While on LGS people normally are not familiar with her and are a little flabbergasted with my total disregard of life points, be it from their attacks or my own effects

I would've included Endrek Sahr in the list, at least as a tier B commander as his capability of generating disposable sac outlets is kind of OP.

I had the OG slimefoot as the commander of a saprolings aristocrats deck but I swapped him for Nemata Primeval Warden. He can only sac saprolings himself but he can draw and buff himself and it also hoses opponents graveyard strategies and is built in board wipe protection. And he's a 3/4 with reach for 4 mana. I think he deserves to be on this list at least.

Elas il Kor is nuts because it's one of the few commanders that support a Lurrus companion

I have an aristocratic-ish deck with the commander being Tayam, Luminous Enigma. It's white black green that I've build around life drain and some infinite combos involving phyrexian alter and Luminous broodmoth (mothra). Tayam's ability is to pay 3 mana, remove 3 counters from creatures on your field, put the top 3 cards of your library into the grave, then return a permanent with cmc 3 or less to the battle field. The game winning combo needs tayam, mothra, 3 other creatures without flying, and phyrexian alter. You sack the 3 creatures to the alter for 3 mana, mothra returns them to the battlefield with flying counters, then you use the 3 mana to proc tayam, removing the flying counter and milling 3. I do this till I get eternal witness, dina or vito, and eerie ultimatium. Then return eternal witness, and dina or vito to the battlefield, use witness to return eerie ultimatium, sack everything to the alter and cast eerie ultimatium and drain your opponents for all their life. If they survived, repeat till they don't

For those saying why isn’t commander X and Y on the list. Take a look at that commanders typing. Does the commander tend to bleed into other types of strategies and so it doesn’t fall purely in category X. I.e Myrkul leaning largely into enchantments, Syr Konrad on Mill, Ghave on +1/+1, or Slimefoot on Saproling tribal.

Justice for Ayara! Defo A tier. With her out and a higher life total then your opponents you can cast plague of vermin and drain everyone out. Sure it’s high cmc but still pretty solid. Also card draw on your Commander is nice! Thornbite staff allows you to abuse it.. plenty of creatures you can cash in for the card and then replay (reassembling skeleton) I had an extremely spicy victory with her today so I must admit I’m biased but with reason! Lol played her a decent amount and she’s solid.

There’s no way Meren is that low. By the time you cast her, you should have some of your key pieces already out there. I took my deck apart because it was so repetitive and my playgroup hated it. I won almost every time. She’s insane if you can sac a protean hulk or junji.

Can I just say that "Nadier, Agent of the Dusknell" is maybe stronger than Elenda? you lose the lifelink keyword but having played both Elenda and Nadier the fact that Nadier's abilities activate when he or some tokens leave the field (and not just die) is really really impactful, since it makes really really difficult to eradicate them. Plus is a partner and can be played in many color combination.

Liesa, Forgotten Archangel as a D tier? Thanks, I appreciate you lowering expectations. She alone effectively shuts down other decks hoping to get creatures back out the graveyard. Getting back my own creatures sets up tons of ETB/LTB options. Pair her up with Grave Pact or Dictate of Erobos and you ETB/LTB effects now punish every other player you sacrifice.

Meren in C tier really does speak to how much commander has power crept

Having played a fair amount of Squee and Slimefoot, there are lots of ways to get saprolings (fun fact, other than changelings, there are no cards with the creature type of Saproling). Sometimes I might be out for a turn, but it's never been a lasting problem. Not arguing for S tier, but I'd say at least C, maybe B.

Meren should be one or two tier higher

I have to say Shirei is better than C tier. With a sac outlet, you can empty peoples hands, fields, and life totals very quickly.

Never realized how niche baba lysaga was until this. I still love my baby lasagna deck and she can do some pretty crazy things.

I mostly agree on the rankings, but i kind of miss Korvold, Baba Lyssaga and/or Mazirek , Juri Master of the Revue and/or Mahadi Emporium Master. Of course the list can only be so long, but at least Korvold seems much more like an aristocrats commander than Slimefoot and Squee ;-) Anyway thanks for all your videos Mitch, keep up the good work.

Hey man love your videos and love it when you do new videos like this! I will say the list is a little off although you did get some right. But Dina should be on the list and elenda is borderline the best aristocratic commander.

Meren is by far one of the best commander period. Is one of the most well designed commanders, also she's one of the best value engine commanders.

Token creatures trigger graveyard. The only time it doesn’t is if it specifically says non token. Just like with agent of the iron throne everytime you sac a token artifact or creature it deals a damage to target player.

Yeah Meren in the B seems ok 🤔 but I still think its a brutal commander. The colour combination is very important for aristocrats, if you wanna go Max evil white is pretty important imo because if not you will miss out on teysa

Great list. I only disagree with Bane Lord of Darkness. If the deck style is played with a sacrifice engine people tend to be afraid of the card draw. I have had many games where people would rather deal with what can be played rather than draw 4 times in a turn. His true strength is getting a ton of draw and ramping. It's a nice bonus to get to play a creature from your hand for free but having a draw engine can be even scarier sometimes. When you don't even have creatures in your hand and people don't want you to play them so they let you draw and then you end up with a creature anyways.

Crazy to see Savra so low. If your whole deck is golgari creatures, you net 0 life for each opponent to lose creatures.

Slimefoot and Squee is more a reanimator and less an aristocrat. And there are tons of ways to create saprolings. It's not that hard. For this list, yes, it's not that good at being an aristocrat, but it is stellar at reviving stuff in the graveyard. I play a version of it on MTG Arena.

My theory on why Meren is not at least A tier in comparison to Marchesa: Meren focuses very heavily on recursion through the graveyard while it is a viable option to interact with, while Marchesa and even S tier Commander's only need the focus on when the creature "dies" rather it hitting or being in the graveyard. "Oh, you think you are going to get out Flesh-bag Marauder or Demon Disciple for the fifth time. Nope, Bojuka Bog them suckers". Yeah Meren is still super-powerful and a unexpeting play group will fell the wrath of sacrificial beat-down, But alot of good player will get wise fast and bring in enchantment remove (for those Grave Pact's and Dictate of Erebo's) and token generation to buffer the sac wave and/or have graveyard lock-down/stacking as stated above.

Braids is stupid strong, it's semi stax aristocrat. Thalia and The Gitrog Monster is definitely A if not S tier. It's a built in sac and card draw, added bonus of stax and lands. There are a lot of landfall token generators.
