Yep kahawai are fun on light gear. Especially in the waitaki. I have also used my 6wt fly rod with 8lb tippet. Awesome fighting

Yeah, I agree with you; pound for pound there is no other fish that compares to a fighting Kahawai. I get heaps each year Salmon fishing when i get board at catching a salmon.

Yeah baby! I chase Kahawai allll the time on my light trout setup, it's great fun and an easy way to get friends hooked into fish. edit - Mans really out here wading in crocs and socks!
