I love Detroit Downtown. One of the best Downtowns I have seen in the USA so far. I migrated to Michigan in 2007 from Bangladesh and lived in right on the border of Detroit and Hamtruck. Half of my street block was Polish and other half was white, black and bengalies. I grew up near Detroit Downtown and Polish neighborhood. I loved the Detroit Downtown. It has different vibe to it and the middle eastern food is amazing. Where I lived in Detroit they turned the town to Bengali Town. It is right on 7 mile Conant rd. Amazing experience living there. Where I lived the area was slightly ghetto but nothing too bad. Yes our bike got stolen every summer but not too many crime outside of that where I lived

I was raised in suburban Detroit. My wife and I bought a home in Rosedale Park thinking that if it didn't work out, we would be no worse off than if we had been renting somewhere. That was 45 years ago and we are still here. Outstanding housing value for the price, a beautiful, diverse, organized neighborhood association, a good business community, nice parks, transit... the works. Houses range from 1200 square feet to 3000 square feet, and sell for prices between $150k to $300k. It is in a special lower property tax zone. The houses are a bargain, especially if you are coming from either coast. My walk score is 72 (although that is on the high end for the neighborhood), and I almost always walk to the grocery store (5 minutes) or the drug store (5 minutes). There are 2 nearby libraries, barber shops, a small hardware store, coffee shop, donut shop, garden shop, book store, banks, middle-eastern, Chinese restaurants, churches, schools... you name it. Add to that the fantastic neighbors who live here. This is probably the most stable, most organized, and deep-rooted neighborhood in the city. There are 1500 homes in Rosedale Park, and more when you add North Rosedale Park and the other surrounding neighborhoods, so it is not a small hidden enclave. Not a lot of homes come on the market, and they sell quickly. There are a million reasons for that.

Detroit is a great city with beautiful architecture and great history. True, it went through some bad times but it is definitely turning around and is the renaissance city. It will take some time to bring some of the neighborhoods back but it’s being done. I lived in Detroit for a dozen years, through some of the bad times, and I always felt that the people were good people. The city always got a bad rap and yet there are cities with far worse crime that never get mentioned. Congrats to Detroit for their rebirth. Thanks for the great video on Detroit. 👏👏👍

Yup, Detroit needs people, a city can’t improve with 1/3 of its tax base. People who want to live the American dream, own a home, take care of it, commit to helping better the neighborhood.

I transferred in my job to Detroit back in 2020. Since I've fallen in love with the growth of the city and because of the affordability compared to the rest of the market, me and the wife are fully considering a move to Detroit. We're really hoping we can purchase some lot and build a home from the ground up and make it our own. Will still cost less than purchasing one in today's market. If not there are plenty of homes that even for a higher price you get so much more house.

Green Acres is is a great neighborhood in Detroit at 8 and Woodward. It's a traditional neighborhood with mature trees and tudor, colonial, and cottage-style houses ranging from 1100 -2500 sq. feet mostly built between 1920 and 1950s-ish. Green Acres never experienced the vacancy of many Detroit neighborhoods. It's nicely central to the entire metro area and the northern border of neighborhood is the start of the suburban communities to the the north so you have all the amenities of the suburbs, and downtown is 15 minutes away.

This is one of the better summaries on the city I think I've seen. North End, Jefferson Chalmers, Islandview, North Village, East Village. These neighborhoods have LOTS of homes being renovated right now, and are still IMO affordable. Be prepared to do some work yourself. Try Michigan and Trumbull for Detroit Style Pizza, Mootz has a great NY style. I do Duly's Place for a coney dog. And Polish Village for there Beet Soup. Seriously, I LOVE that beet soup!!

Ive been thinking about moving to Detroit for the past couple of years, being a commercial truck driver my experience with the city has always been mixed, poor roads, no place to park and when you do you've got hookers pounding on your door ever 15 minutes asking if you want some companionship however the people was always friendly (even the prostitutes when you told them "no thanks") but in recent years its been on my radar, affordable housing make the idea of owning a home a reality, the general consensus is that as long as you dont do anything stupid (walk the streets late at night acting like Billy bad butt ready to take on the world) or leave your keys in the car or worse install a $1500 stereo in it then you've got little to worry about. Since I'm pretty much a recluse who simply desires to collect my disability and sit on my porch reading the newspaper while laughing at the kids pop wheelies on their bikes and my only excursions involes traveling to the VA to be chewed out by the dietitian for not esting properly or my required follow-up appointments I should be okay

Hahaha I believe in Detroit, worked in the city, but a suburbanite. Detroit proper has so many, very rough areas I'm not driving through any time of day. The actual places people moving here want to live in are very few (within the city limits) . Boston Edison, Palmer woods, downtown are the few. The rest are not all that safe, period. The suburbs are ok, until you're 45 min outside, hold for a few exceptions (Gross Point/woods/Park, Royal oak, Bloomfield, Berkeley, Allen Park, etc) places like highland, innkster you're going to get robbed once a year. So now we're talking Rochester hills, West Bloomfield, Ann Arbor, Novi, Northville, Brighton, all are going to cost 500k+or 2,500 for rent each month for a simple home in today's market.... Yeah not sounding all that great

Pros of Detroit - Mild Winters, World Class Delta Hub Airport, Great Architecture, Big City Amenities and Great Parks, Somewhat Affordable Housing & the city is improving, great food Cons of Detroit - Nepotism in the job market when it comes to good jobs, Wages & Benefits suck at most non-union jobs here, crime in most areas, and high taxes. Anywhere near downtown, most places are 300k & up.

I go to Bell Isle, 2 to 3 times a week and bike through it, where is it rundown? Belle Isle is making an enormous come back everywhere I go, which is everywhere in the island. It used to be a dump, but since the state took it over they have spent millions on it, I think it’s absolutely beautiful everywhere, I don’t know where you’re talking about this rundown? There might be a couple small buildings here and there overall, the island is fabulous now. The aquarium is amazing, the Dawson Museum a lot of fun and renovated, the conservatory is just reopening right now after redoing all the glass and metal. The beaches are beautiful. The walkways are lovely, and the pavilion is being totally restored now too. The Detroit yacht club is an absolutely gorgeous building. If you go inside, the Detroit boat club building needs to be restored. The only thing that I see that needs work is the Bandshell Area, all the lakes are pristine and lovely.

Detroit has reinvented itself over the last twenty years. Kilpatrick bankrupted the city and went to prison for it. Dan Gilbert (Quicken Loans, etc.) and the Ilitches (Little Caesers Pizza) pumped a ton of money into the city. Decimated buildings were purchased and renovated. Gilbert recruited businesses to come from the suburbs to Detroit and offered rental incentives for doing so. Homebuyers were offered special credits for purchasing in Detroit. New venues were built for hockey, baseball and football. From being the 5th largest city in the US in the 70s to a city in decline, Detroit has emerged from the ashes and population has been on the upswing this decade because of all the D has to offer and the affordable cost of living in Michigan.

This is spot on. I was born and raised in metro DWT (and Chicago) in the '70s & '80s but have spent the last few decades in the PNW (namely Seattle & PDX) and although I still love the West Coast in general, the cost of living, specifically housing (renting or owning) is just not affordable for many here (or arguably, sustainable) anymore. There's also a better vibe in DWT vs. the "Seattle freeze" regarding people's attitudes and general outlook. Thanks for posting this video and for this channel 😎

I live in downtown Detroit for 16 years now I love it, however, that $75,000 figure is enormously misleading. That’s a median price when you take into consideration all the horrible neighborhoods of which there are many , some of them , you can buy homes for 20 and 30,000 which brings this medium price down, , but frankly no one would want to live there, in the nicer areas of Detroit. It’s not cheap by any means , the downtown / Midtown are expensive by Detroit standards but very nice . Condos in Brush Park go for anywhere from half 1,000,000 to 1,000,000, just looked at a townhouse in Corktown , from 859 to 1, million, I couldn’t believe it.!! My own Lafayette Park area averages about 400 to 500,000. But compared to other cities on the coast I guess that’s still cheap. The suburbs of Detroit, which go on forever Have tons of different price points some unbelievably expensive, some more reasonable. Do your homework, but it’s a wonderful metropolitan area to live in.

Detroit born and raised. It was always a gritty town, but now the only ones left are perps and/or welfare cases. Starry-eyed urban pioneers cannot even imagine the level of depravity that awaits them, but they soon learn. The Rouge basin is the second-most polluted ecosystem in the USA. 350 years of development and industry have rendered the entire city brownfields. Critical local services such as schools, police, fire, and snow plowing are irreparably dysfunctional. There's a city tax on residency, and another for having the audacity to work there. The few islands of semi-normalcy are not particularly well protected. No reasonable person expects any parked car to remain unscathed for long. And then there are the daily horrors the children face in the streets merely attempting to get to and from school. This is the short list. The bottom line is, if you're interested in having a good life, Detroit is not the place for you 😐

What? I live IN Detroit and it is not conservative. The state has a democratic Governor (Whitmer) and both houses are Democratic. The mayor Duggan is a Dem. Admit it - the suburbs filled with white flight families from the 60s might be Repubs but the actual city of Detroit is Dem.....as is most of the voting state of Michigan. Sorry. But you're not looking at reality.

@@braspnot untrue at all. In the last election, only Detroit proper & Ann Arbor voted liberal lunatic. Every other county/cities voted Red. You must be another Joe Biden proud voter 😂. The world is in so much of a better place. LoL. Unbelievable
