Hot Take: Jeremy Sochan could be the key to the Spurs' next dynasty (excluding Wemby). I think he has become crazily underrated, potential and current ability-wise; The "failed" point guard experiment has only rly been taken so seriously because we were frustrated that Vic didnt have a traditional point guard to help him make the best use of his tools. But I think Jeremy still has a very specific toolset that can really be needed in a championship team. He is a guy who will throw his body on the line, he is a good defender and has very high defensive and rebounding potential, he has the ability to be a decent secondary/tertiary playmaker and he shows flashes of having, a quite unique, but still effective and good scoring ability. Jeremy is also a guy who can get into his opponents heads, because of his eccentricity and heart.

As a warriors fan Dario started the season well but began to play terrible and has since fallen out of the rotation. As a Celtics fan, I would argue Sam Hauser is our most underrated player. I think people generally know that KP is a huge piece of the Celtics, but people cast Sam aside because you have the Jays in front of him and he's off the bench. This team would not have a good enough bench for the playoffs without Hauser. He's obviously lights out from three, but he's also really smart in terms of screening and off ball actions, and he's a smart defender that can usually keep the ball in front of him, or funnel someone towards help if he can't.

Tyus Jones held the wizards back all year, 100% most overrated player he’s a great back up but since he’s been out and Poole has been the PG the offense has looked so much better, the ball moves more and it’s a better shot diet overall. Tyus would dribble out the clock for 15-20 seconds and throw it to kuz to shot Chuck. It sucked, Deni is the most underrated player in the entire league too

Let me guess, Trey Murphy for the Pels? Before anyone says anything, I’m a Pels fan, so I know how great Trey is, but it just feels like everyone is talking about how underrated he is, that it’s like, I think he’s rated just fine now. He didn’t have a great start and middle season this year, and has come around in the past two months, but it’s like besides casuals, most people that pay attention to the Pelicans, should know how good his potential is at this point. Again, I’m not hating on my players, I think underrated should go to Naji, Jose, Dyson and players like that. From the perspective that casuals and actual NBA fans don’t understand how good they are to the team you know?

Loved Dario at the beginning of the season but it’s got to be one of the rookies. Dario was knocking down his shots at the beginning of the season but, recently, hasn’t been playing a lot of minutes and his Defense has been terrible. I would say Podz or TJD because they both play their role very well for the Dubs. Podz knocks down his shots and is leading all guards in offensive rebounds and leading the entire nba in Charges. TJDs Defense has been really good recently and has been really good in the starting lineup.

Hot take: People hate advanced stats because they are using them wrong, including the people who make them. Anyone who has taking a statistics class known that you need uncertainties before you can make any conclusions. Example if you have a player with a plus minus of +650 and +600 you can't compare the 2 of them without uncertainties on that data. It is good that people are looking more and more into actual X's and O's basketbal to better understand the game in recent times just hope this one days happens for the analytics.

@treymatthews3353

As a statistics major you’re absolutely correct. With any form of statistical analysis, you need to account for as many background variables as you can statistically for an accurate estimate and even then you have to acknowledge the existence of possible nuisance variables that could lead to misleading data. Statisticians and data analysts have the reputation of relying on stats at face value to make conclusions when that couldn’t be further from the case.
@eagleslove100
@eagleslove100 2 ай бұрын
@@treymatthews3353Not trying to argue, just want to better understand y’all in your viewpoint. Does the league not take into account different variables when coming up with advanced stats? How do they come to their conclusions? Also would it make any difference looking at career stats vs season stats depending on the context?
@treymatthews3353
@treymatthews3353 2 ай бұрын
@@eagleslove100 So certain stats definitely take into account more variables than others. For example comparing FG% to TS%, TS% takes into account the value of different shot types in its formula like 3 pointers and free throws by weighing for them while FG% is just a straight up accuracy stats. However there are still a lot of other variables that a singular stats cannot account for. Defensive rating for example measures how many points an opposing team scores for 100 possessions while a player is one the floor, but so many things can impact this stat. If an amazing defender is on the floor with 4 of bad defenders, their defensive rating will indicate that he’s a worse defender than he really is. If you want to look at a players defensive rating to get an idea a better idea of how good of a defender they are, you’d have to take into account variables like lineups and the opposing team. Organizations also have access to a lot of stats that we as viewers don’t have public access to so they have much more evidence to make conclusions as well. I can’t speak for organizations because I’m not apart of one, but I’m assuming they use coding platforms like RStudio to make statistical analysis. As for looking at career and season stats, yes it’s a big difference. A player like Vince Carter’s career stats wouldn’t be indicative of how good of a player he was in his prime as he played for many years after his decline. Not to mention eras make a big difference. A player today will have much better offensive stats compared to years past due to the increase in 3 point attempts, pace, and defensive rules. This is the difficulty behind stats especially in sports. It’s so hard to measure all these different things due to all the different things we can’t account for numerically so when you make an analysis, you have to try to quantify or characterize as many cofounders as you possibly. Even then there’s just some things like human error that are very hard to account for. That’s where the idea of variance comes in.

As a nuggets fan, it feels like people who don't watch us certainly don't understand how huge Pwat has been for the second unit this year, but for those in the know on the team he's been a defacto answer for league wide underrated players, not just on our team. Among people who understand what makes our team good I feel like KCP gets the least credit, he's consistently one of our 3 best defenders on the floor, his ability to continue affecting a shot while going over the screen while shooting 46/40/90 has made him an abject advantage over his man on the court almost all year and I think many of our nailbiter wins could have become losses we got the lights shot out on us without him. ik it's sort of silly to be like "rusty I think another 3&D guy should get some credit in this video" but KCP is low key one of the best at it, not just a middling guard in a well fitting fortunate role like many seem to think
@therealramos5542

For the Sixers, I believe it's Ricky Council IV. He's played well being in the second unit (and sometimes starting) shooting well from the floor (though on low volume) but is a great finisher at the rim and pretty athletic. He's great for backdoor cuts when Embiid is at the top of the key or a dunker spot lob. His three could be a tad better but I believe he could improve over the off-season as it seems he already has the flow and shot selection for it.

Gotta say as a spurs fan Vassell is our most overrated player. His offense hasn't taken a jump he's just been more consistent cus he's actually been healthy this year and despite having less of an offensive load than last year his defense still hasn't returned to the form it was alongside dejounte murray and a lot of times he's straight up shot the team out of games taking the dumbest possible shots. I remember in the second to last grizzlies game he pulled up for a contested 3 when we're down 2 with less than a minute left and there were still 20 seconds on the shot clock, he straight up looks off open guys sometimes just so he can take a contested 3 or middy sometimes it goes in but man it hurts when it doesn't. The fact people think there's this gap between him and the other non wemby players makes him overrated and Jeremy is the most underrated he's constantly getting hated on no matter what he does and people still blame him whenever wemby struggles despite the fact he hasn't played pg since the end of november

Again Rusty, you and everyone else is judging the Celtics based on their regular season success as if they were 8th in the East last season. The reg season win column has not been the Celtics problem. It's crunch time minutes.
