Hats off to you for mastering the Suregrips! I just can’t with those skates. At all! I’m a Moxi girl for life! As for the boots, when I first tried the Lollys I was blown away by the fact that their suede allowed for the movement that it did while the boot offered my foot and ankles a solidity all around the contour of the foot that the Suregrips just don’t. They just have a stiff boot, but the inner construction of the Lollys is a thing of beauty! But yes, color me biased! 🤪❤️

Alas, not when it comes to the balance situation. With the Moxi Lollys, the founder, Michelle Steilen, tested every height to the heel imaginable to find juuuuuust the right spot for the balance. That, paired with the right kingpin in the trucks is key. AND their boot feels incredible on and the way it hugs the foot for just the right amount of support. You get none of that with the Suregrips. Wheels and bearings are factors affecting other elements but not this, unfortunately. I'm so in love with the masterfuol design of the Lollys that I just bought my second pair and am about to buy a third!

Ooh! I will have to check that out! Might explain the instability that I and many others have experienced with the Boardwalks! And if that is the case then it boils down to the plates. I am NOT a fan of that Suregrip plate. The Moxi Lollys come with the Powerdyne Thrust and it is fabulous! Hope you get Lollys soon! They are so amazing!

Haha, thank you! You are too kind! I'd NEVER say no to any Moxi skates! To know me is to know I love the Lolly so much I can't stop buying more pairs! Eek! 😉 I even bought some Riedell skates (designed by my mentor and teacher, the legend of rollerdance, Richard Humphrey) and he mounted them on the Suregrip plates (without knowing how much I LOATHE those) and, lo and behold, I couldn't skate in them! I have since bought some other plates he is going to install for me soon but it brought home the brilliance of the Moxi Lolly complete outdoor package even more! Everything about those skates and that brand are magic! You'll have to let me know how you like them if you get a pair! They do also sell the Moxi Lolly Cosmetic Blems, which means they have some slight cosmetic defect so you can score them even cheaper. Moxi has them available on their site as do legacy Skates and Empire Skates last I checked. Can't go wrong with Moxi!

The Lollys have that perfect flexibility to the suede to move without feeling constrained, and yet, they’re definitely not too loose, but it was that around the foot and ankle solidity that you feel immediately when you try the boots on that blew me away. I gushed about the Lollys to Estro Jen, the founder of Moxi, in one of the lives and she said that all that attention to detail is because the Moxis are made for skaters by skaters and you can soooo tell! I think the Moxi Lolly skates would be fab! Ankle support isn't necessarily gauged by the stiffness of a bit but rather by the support built into the contour of the entire foot. Then it's a matter of preference of how you like your boot, what type of skating you will be doing and what the needs are etc. If you are going to stick with it long term, then I would definitely recommend the Moxi Lolly skates. I LOVE them BUT I also do not like stiff boots. They don't work for me or my feet AND I am a rollerdancer so I don't do street skating anymore or park skating at all etc. The best thing would be to make it out to a skate shop... even if it's not close it's worth the trip... to try on skates and see what works best for you before you invest. And they can also guide you there towards something that is best for you, your budget, your skill level and skating style.

Man, so sorry to hear! There's something definitely off with that setup and I don't quite know what but it didn't work for me AT ALL. If there is any chance you can exchange them, I highly recommend the Lollys! I'd be out here REALLY tearing it up if my !@#$% knees would let me be great (next Amazon order is KT tape and I'm going to spend time working on strengthening my quadriceps and hamstrings to support my knees and high intensity cardio for endurance. It's been seven years or so since I last skated regularly (outdoor, general fitness on inlines) and 40 years since I've been in a rink. There's some green apple Lolly's in my future :)

@@SensationallySilky You can do it and it WILL get better! But DO look into maybe changing your cushions! I saw a video by Moxi (and then did one of my one... and link to the Moxi one in the description box of that video) about how roller skate cushions come in hard, medium and soft and how they act as shock absorbers and so if you have knee issues or are experiencing knee issues while skating then going to a softer one can help. The Lollys come with medium cushions and I switched them out to soft cushions and am SO loving the difference! That, coupled with the Moxi Gummy outdoor wheels (the 78a durometer is key for me) has been magic. But I skate outdoors so soft cushions should still work with indoor wheels for sure. The key, should you want to give that a try, is to look and see where to buy cushions for the kind of plate that your Fames come with. And YASSSS to green apple Lollys in your future! Vibing the big vibe for you!

@@MizBoheMia I couldn't resist the urge to hit the skate shop closest to me. I bought some radar energy outdoor wheels and slapped them bad girls on my Fames. FINALLY got to hit my regular spot. I decided I was only gonna try a quickie (one little loop around) just to see how they felt. MAN WHAT??? those outdoor wheels with this boot is tha BIZZZNAASSSS.. I will consider upgrading to softer cushions as well on your advice - I'm a REALLY big girl and just tapped the big 5-0 so my knees weren't in the greatest shape to begin with but I swear I feel the old legs getting stronger with every run. I also realize this particular wheel is not the GREATEST for the rink but I'm going to try them to see if I'm a little more stable as my harder wheels were HELLA slick on that rink floor and that had me a bit nervous. My bestie (who has the same skate setup as me) and I, both having gummy wheels, feel they are slippery enough on indoor floors so we are GOOD with our outdoor wheels indoors for now! 😉So much of skating is coordinating the mind with the body and feeling good is a huge first step. I'm working on getting back to that. @@MizBoheMia I actually purchased Sure Grip Boardwalk (lavender) skates because they are marked down now. I think Sure Grip has a newer model. I wanted to watch my budget on my first pair after many years of not skating. They are working out so far. I think the Lollys are in my future though!

So glad to hear they're working for you! As for Lolly's, keep an eye out on FB marketplace. Sometimes you can find them new or almost new at a better price!

I have since given my Suregrips away so I no longer have them here to test that out though I did, on different occasions, hold them up side by side, wheels to wheels and I don't think I noticed different like that. BUT, oftentimes even a subtle difference like that can definitely affect where the lean is. I talked to the owner of a local skate shop who mounts plates unto skates and asked her about it and she said that there are many factors involved from the plate size not being right for the boot (though these came with the plates) or sometimes something as subtle as the location of the plate not being in the right spot. But if I cross paths with some Suregrip Boardwalks again I'll try to check out the plate and wheel locations for sure! Thanks for letting me know!

However, my comparison also deals directly with what the two skates are like straight out of the box and given that I had a huge issue with the Surgrips from the getgo the last thing I wanted to do was invest anything extra into them. It became a question of which skate was worth keeping, and there the Lollys won, and since then I HAVE actually changed the cushions on my Lollys (I have a video on that). I prefer the boot, the quality, the materials, the plate of the Lolly over the Suregrip and, by that same token, they have plates with different kingpins but I'm also not going to change those around for the sake of the comparison, you know? Out of the box, as they are, which worked best for me... that was the focus as many other skaters will also be aiming to purchase something that is the best it can be from the getgo. And the cushions wouldn't resolve the balance issue and the fact that I kept falling with the Suregrips and not at all with the Lollys, you know? They play more into maneuverability and shock absorption and how that can affect the body (for example, softer cushions equals better shock absorption which in turn makes it easier on the knees). Overall, the Lollys, for me, were the superior skate in all aspects (including the fact that they come with medium cushions from the getgo and given the price point, and not hard cushions). The Moxi Panthers are beautiful! But definitely very different from the Lollys. If ever you get a chance to try the Lollys I hope you do. Something tells me you'll love that amazing ankle support they have and the suppleness of the suede!

@@LynleyCat Yeah, and the whole point when you are at the price point of the Suregrips and Lollys is to get as solid a boot as possible. The Lollys hold the edge even with their cushions but, mainly, the design and combo of all the components is key to the stability it provides as opposed to the Suregrips and sadly that issue is not easily fixed with cushions, you know?

After 3 years I had the courage to try skating again and then I tried a friends Chaya skates and it was so different. Oh wow! I see it isn't just me then and that I'm not crazy! I was so thrown off by that one video I found where this woman found the Surgegrips to be more stable! Made NOOOOO sense! I literally fell ALL the time and was reconsidering skating and thought I was horrible but didn't remember being so horrible. I felt gaslit by the skates! 😂 You know, Moxis are very difficult to get everywhere right now and I was prepared to wait for them as long as it took and I will tell you that they ARE worth the wait. But don't buy from individuals who jack up the prices online. I got mine for $299 last year, but in the new year they've gone up to $349. Those that sell them online must have gotten them at those prices and are charging $500+ and that's insane. I'm sure there are skate shops in Canada where you can preorder and then just wait until they drop? It's worth looking into! I am SO in love with my Moxis! And I recently changed the cushions to softer ones (I will have a video on that at some point but they have an in depth one up on the Moxi channel) and they are heaven to skate on outside. Wow! I am no longer surprised when I hear others say they experienced the same thing! Such a bummer though thank goodness for Moxi! I DO see many post about their love for the Suregrip Boardwalks and I just do NOT get it! Like, how are they NOT falling? And have they tried the Moxis? Totally. I've seen other reviewers say their Moxi Lolly tongue moved around on them but I own three pairs of Lollys now and I've never had that issue with any of them! I hate those Boardwalk skates soooooo much!

Love this and sooo appreciate your comment and insight, thank you! Bearings are definitely something I have yet to properly delve into so, once I do, I’ll def be keeping all this in mind! As for my comparisons between the skates, given that I am not well schooled in bearings, all I have to guide myself by is feeling and performance as per what I’m looking for in a skate and what felt better. 🤷🏼‍♀️

@@MizBoheMia I wonder if your Boardwalk's had the same setup as your Moxi's would you like them equally as much? i.e. Same Wheel & Bearing combination same bushing/cushion hardness. On another note, I do love that the Sure-Grip boot's sole is stitched and glue so many skates boots are only glued, one less likely point of failure. I can't speak for the Moxi boot but I hear it's a quality boot. Unforturnenly I'm a guy and their color palette is not very masculine. lol If they would make and market a masculine line with colors other than black and beige I would buy their skates. I would dig a pair of midnight blue suede skates. lol Otherwise a great US company.

The wheels and bearings didn’t have too much bearing (hah! 🤪) on why I preferred the Moxis… the trucks, the quality of the boot, the true ankle support and movement flexibility etc and everything else i mention made the Moxi Lolly, and its setup, far superior in my opinion. Sooooo love it! And I HAVE seen dudes rocking the Lollys and the Jack boots! I say pick one of the fab colors and go for it! 😉❤️

@@DeadRoman Then don’t buy it. Period. It is for skaters who can consider both since Suregrip claims to have many of the same qualities with their Boardwalk skate as the Lolly, which it doesn’t. Furthermore, the Boardwalks retail from $230-$250 for the most part and at the time I filmed this the Lollys retailed at $299. So it’s fair and it was timely and I stand by everything I said then and now.
