I remember that in 2011 Disney made *Jodi Benson* (Ariel), *Paige O'Hara* (Belle), *Lea Salonga* (Jasmine/Mulan singing voice), *Linda Larkin* (Jasmine speaking voice), and *Anika Noni Rose* (Tiana) official Disney Legends. I was shocked that *Judy Kuhn* was not included (nor *Irene Bedard,* for that matter). Anika was a puzzle, because her movie had just come out less than two years earlier.

@@musicaltheatergeek79 Well here's the thing, Pocahontas is kinda of touchy subject with Disney, heck it was even controversial when it first came out because of how way historically inaccurate it was. It sorta signaled the beginning of the end of great Disney animation, and I feel like they're trying to distance themselves from it, hence why she doesn't really have anything in the parks, and if it wasn't for Colors of the Wind and the fact that she's already a Disney Princess, I feel like they would've buried the movie next to Song of the South and Black Cauldron. I'm honestly convinced this is gonna be the last movie they'll remake even.

5:57 is my favorite part. I never realized until recently that Pocahontas was voiced by two different people. One for the speaking and the other for when she sings. And both of them sound very similar. Judy Khun is amazing and should have been given more recognition for her talents. She is the reason why I believe Pocahontas has the most beautiful singing voice of all the Disney Princesses.

The words, the music, and judy's voice all these combined makes the song so powerful in delivering its message...that it reaches out and speaks to your soul, to the point that you can just close your eyes and cry as you feel the message. Just powerful. And especially timley considering what we humas have done to this planet.

Walt Disney made magic in it's prime, it picked the right people for the right jobs and and everyone new their talent and capability and what they brought to the table. If only Disney could just reimagine that same formula and get back to the basics and stay out of politics and truly care about what they are creating and projecting to the American people I truly believe they cann once again create those magical films that really move us again. Like the song "Colors of the wind", three people with extraordinary capabilities came together, a lyricist a composer and a singer and created one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

In Les Mis, Lea Salonga played two of the three signature female parts. In the first concert, she played Eponine (originated by Frances Rufelle). In the next concert, she played the part of Fantine (originated by Patti Lupone). The one part she never sang in a televised concert is the part of Cossette. That's the part that was originated (on Broadway) by Judy Kuhn. It was an interesting Tony season in 1988, when Ruffelle and Kuhn went head to head for the best featured actress in a musical. Frances won, but no one would have complained if Judy won. Both were and are phenomenal vocalist. Lea, of course, would win the Tony in 1990 for the lead actress in a musical (for Miss Saigon). I got a chance to see the original company of Les Mis in DC (before it went on to Broadway). Frances Ruffelle was the lovely waif, Judy Kuhn was a tremendous Cossette. Randy Graff? Well, she was okay, but the other two singers were better, in my opinion (at least for the parts they were playing). Remember, Fantine sang one of the great songs of that musical, "I dreamed a dream." That she didn't get nominated for the Tony was not surprising. If you hear Judy Kuhn sing "A heart full of love" or sing to Valjean as he was dying, you heard a truly gifted artist. Same thing with Frances Ruffelle. There was not a dry eye in the theater when she sang "A little fall of rain." Surprisingly, Colm Wilkinson did not win in Britain or in the U.S. for the role of Valjean. The Tony that year went to Robert Lindsay (Captain Pettigrew) for his turn in "Me and my Girl." I think Colm should have won - it is one of the great roles in one of the best Broadway musical in history, but Robert Lindsay was superb. And oh, that was the year that the Quantum Leaper and Captain Archer was also nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical (for Romance Romance). Three terrific actors. A year with a legendary musical. Of course, the next year saw the Broadway debut of Phantom. Then Miss Saigon followed. Then Sunset Boulevard. It was a great time, and only the recent advent of Hamilton one year followed by Dear Evan Hansen matches the moment in recent musical theater history.
