I was born in 1958 and everything you show relates to a memory one way or the other… I’m a particularly nostalgic and empathetic person, and when I watch these I think of my youth, I think of easier times… I’m retired now, and I’ve come across your channel several times, but only subscribed today… You do a terrific job here and I appreciate your effort. It brings back memories of my family and especially my father, who died this past January, nearly a century-old… and he was an enormous fan of Agnes Moorehead, given that most of his early life was radio only… and being a huge sci-fi fan, I remember the hatchet on the flying saucer scene like it was yesterday! Agnes Moorhead was perfectly cast. She was beautiful despite her age. Her character added the right amount of friction. I loved the colors and wardrobe she wore. She was scary to me like a strict aunt. Her Twilight episode was one of my favorites in the series.

I worshiped Agnes Moorhead as Endora, as well as Liz Montgomery. Every Friday night, without fail, we were crowded around the TV enjoying Bewitched. It was later that I found her in Citizen Kane and The Magnificent Ambersons, among many movies. Her acting skills were matched by none. I am now heading to find her on radio. I have come full circle with Agnes. RIP darling.

Bewitched brings back childhood memories of grabbing my pillow and some snacks and getting snuggy in front of the TV. I believe the cast's love for each other (have read this elsewhere too) was infectious.

That was great, as a child in Australia my brother and I used to love watching Bewitched as well as I Dream of Jeanie, Get Smart F Troup, and Green Acres they were great TV Shows.

Agnes Moorehead is unquestionably one of the finest actresses as well as being one of the most underrated actresses of the 20th century. She managed to preserve the integrity of her craft by not becoming a star whatever that is. I know what it isn't, if you're a star you're probably not at the top of your craft.

Agnes Moorhead is one of my favorite actresses. Intelligence, beauty and talent beyond belief. 💜 I followed her career as much as I could.

My cousin Marge Stover was very close to her and lived in Agnes' family home and she and her husband was the caretakers of her estate. IIRC, Agnes had arranged for the estate to be maintained for retreats by Muskingum College (now University) and Presbyterian folks. When I was travelling around after the Army and was visiting family, they put me up in her mansion. It was a great exploration and the lady reeeeaaaallly liked lavender (the color) and she had imported ebony chandeliers that were painted lavender.

Agnes Moorehead was a great Radio Actress, reprising the main role in "Sorry, Wrong Number" 7 or 8 times. She was known as the "First Lady of SUSPENSE", a very popular radio show for many years prior to television.

This is an excellent documentary about the life of a great actress who is often overlooked. I really enjoyed watching it; thank you for your work.

Per Wikipedia, re: Agnes on Welles directing her in "The Magnificent Ambersons" : In a 1973 interview with Dick Cavett, Moorehead recalled the arduous work involved before filming her climactic scene where she sinks against the unheated boiler. In rehearsal, Welles told Moorehead (who was still a novice to film acting) to "play it like a little girl," a characterization which went against what Moorehead had prepared. Then Welles told her to play "like an insane woman." Following that, Welles told her to play it "like she's absolutely inebriated." Then he said to play with "an absolutely vacuous mind." Moorehead was thinking to herself, "What in the world does he want?" She did the scene 11 times, each with a different characterization. For the twelfth time, Welles told Moorehead: "Now play it." After those rehearsals, her playing the scene had "a little bit of the hysteria, it had a little bit of the insanity, it had a little bit of the little girl...[H]e had mixed it all up in my mind so that the characterization that I played had a little bit of all of these; and it was terribly exciting." Moorehead continued reflecting on Welles's directorial abilities: "He never directed obviously; he always directed in some strange oblique way where you thought 'Well, that isn't right at all.' But if you put your career or the role in his hands he loved to mold you the way he wanted and it was always much better than you could do yourself. He was the most exciting director that you could possibly imagine."

What a great presentation of a beautiful, intelligent, honest, and eXtraordinarily talented human being! A woman whose name was familiar to me but never realized the breadth of her work over her short 73 years. I will have to show this to my 100-year-old mother-in-law who, because she is a serious movie buff with a great memory, no doubt remembers her and no doubt has seen many of her movies and heard her many radio performances. I'm a huge Agnes Moorehead fan. I figured I would always recognize her when I saw her in any movie or TV show. I was wrong. I recently watched "Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte" and was stunned when the credits rolled and I saw that Agnes played Velma. She was so good at the acting that I didn't know it was Agnes. A remarkable person.

She was absolutely brilliant -- her performance on Twilight zone--she did not say a single word was a powerful performance. She was pure class on Bewitched. Amazing her mom lived to be 106.

I don't believe Agnes Moorhead was a lesbian, however, you said that she was a devout Christian who read scripture, voted Republican and hatred the looseness of society then. I'm somewhat conservative myself. I read scripture and I absolutely loathe the attention-seeking, safe-space statists of Gen-Z. I'm gay, but I don't define myself by it the way that some do. She was advanced in a culture that was socially engineering as they still do today, but she was a rock and had good values like we need to go back to. In every instance, do the right thing. What a great cool classic story , I had no idea Agnes moorehead was so incredibly talented, I loved hearing about her childhood and how she could sing and her committed Christian values. I also like watching the old shows to wind down, I especially like watching Perry Mason and I'm really fascinated with all the cast members have you ever done a story on the cast of Perry Mason? I was so fortunate to see the Perry Mason episode done in color and boy was it colorful, it was really an eye-opener.

I liked her as Endora but when I saw that Twilight Zone episode I loved her for her consummate acting ability. To me, that was an amazing performance communicating everything she was feeling without saying a word. Agnes Moorhead never disappoints.

I've always loved Agnes Moorehead and I remember the Twilight Zone episode fondly. When it first aired on TV I forget how old I was but I was completely gobsmacked by her acting in that episode. Not a word spoken but everything was powerfully conveyed. As for her playing Samantha's mother in Bewitched she was without a doubt outstanding and completely embraced the kitsch of the era. I never realized how very versatile and actress she was. Thank you for doing such in-depth research. It is very fulfilling to learn new things and to put a life force behind the actor.

I love her body of work. She was in some huge movies with some big names. Johnie Belinda is one of my favorites. I was lucky enough to see Agnes Moorehead in the premiere of the stage musical Gigi (originally a film, Lerner and Loewe adapted it for the stage in 1973) in San Francisco. She was absolutely incredible, but she was unable to do the whole run as that was when her health failed. She has long been one of my favorite actresses--thanks for this excellent documentary of her life.

Agnes is so underrated today. My favorite roll of hers is in a movie with Humphrey Bogart where she plays the villain. Can't remember the films name but it's a cutting edge film where the first half is filmed like you're looking through Bogarts eyes until he escapes prison and has plastic surgery, then the camera returns to regular format. Her portrayal is stunning and captivating. It's black and white but her acting produces color as she speaks of fire opals and her favorite color orange. Wish I could remember the title. Doh! In a film history class in college my teacher said among other accolades that Citizen Kane was considered one of the greatest sound movies. He spoke about the music, smart banter, the fact that most of the actors had been in radio, but zeroed in on this one scene you shared where 7:11 Morehead's character is informed that Kane had just recieved an inheritance. With her silence she manages to focus every viewers attention to one word shouted out into the silence of a snow-covered field; CHARLES!

My late husband (only 52 when he died last year) was a huge fan of old time radio, and he collected all of the Suspense episodes that were available. I have them on CD, and still love them. Agnes was an amazing talent -- just really outstanding in everything she did.

I grew up watching Bewitched even when it first came on TV in 1964 all the way through 1972 until it went into syndication. I STILL watch the show today, 60 years later! "Endora", the first "Mrs. Kravitz", and "Uncle Arthur" are my all time favorite characters on the show. I am so glad you showed so many more of Agnes Moorehead's other artistic endeavors as well. She was so talented. She deserved an Oscar for her work in "Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte" from 1964. I have watched that movie at least 20 times to watch Agnes Moorehead, Betty Davis, and Olivia de Havilland act so well together. I do not believe for one second that Agnes was ever bisexual or lesbian. I did know she was extremely religious and was eager to share her Christian faith with everyone. I had family in California in those days who knew her. Agnes was very much the conservative and endorsed GOP candidates like Ronald Reagan. They said she was a joy to be around and loved children. Sad that she never had the chance to have any children. Agnes left us too soon.

While I like Paul Lynde don't know if I consider him the most trustworthy source, couple that with the fact that Agnes was in a very emotional situation and may have simply chosen her words poorly. I have always admired her acting ability, I mean, her presence on stage or set alone is top-tier, and then her ability to emote so exaggeratedly in a believable way is just amazing.

This was an extremely informative video. There's so much that I didn't know here and also some that was cleared up like the fact that her not liking Dick Sergeant was a rumor that persists to this day. I also had no idea about that lesbian rumor or its origins. But that just goes to show you that even back then the rumor mill could travel far and, it did.
