I really hope she's not the endgame big bad of Dragon Age. There is no one in the Dragon Age universe who exudes an uterly gray character like Flemeth/Mythal, I looooove the idea of her being neither good or bad she just simply is. I also like that her issue isn't really with the other inhabitants of Thedas but with The Evanuris themselves. I believe she was originally a benelovent ruler.

I hope Mythal is coming back in the next game. Also, I can't help but wonder why Mythal and Solas aren't working together on Solas' plan. Mythal wants vengeance (probably directed at the Evanuris), Solas wants to restore the old times, which would likely free the Evanuris. Why are they not cooperating?
@disclaimin

Perhaps they were, and are. Flemeth isn't surprised to see Solas at the end of DA:I, nor that he seeks her power. It's possible she's the one who woke him from uthenera -- especially if Solas and Mythal were also past figures such as Shartan and Andraste. I think Mythal's plans align with Solas' up to a point. If her ultimate goal is vengeance against the Evanuris, then she needs Solas to bring down the Veil. After that, who knows whether their goals align. Solas says he has "plans" to deal with the Evanuris. Maybe Mythal allowed Solas to absorb part of her, while also pulling another Hawke gambit and rematerializing a second form elsewhere, at once helping Solas and continuing her own separate plans.

One thing I never understood is why solas gets mad if the inquisitor drinks from the well. Is it because he hates the concept of slavery and the inquisitor willingly enslaved themselves to someone in exchange for knowledge? Or is it because he knows mythal is not really a 'nice kind' of person? If the second reason is true..then why did he call her the best of the evanuris and voice of reason as well as an old friend? Ugh so many questions!
@nininoona
@nininoona 3 жыл бұрын
I have always been of the mind that the Evanuris were all once spirits that did not exalt one singular virtue. Rather than being just a spirit of love, for example, they were a combination of two or more virtues. This combination making them more powerful than other spirits and giving them the avenue to become the Evanuris. So, in Mythal's case, she is both a voice of reason (perhaps a combination of wisdom/love, wisdom/valor, wisdom/compassion) and a creature of justice (combining justice/vengeance, justice/command, justice/pride.) Making her a creature of duality, both benevolent and malicious in equal measure. This would explain why Solas had issues with our Inquisitor drinking from the Well and becoming bound to Mythal. I think slavery has a little to do with it as well, considering how well he knows Mythal. He could have understood the possibilities that could come about because of the geas you would now be under and was trying to warn you about it. It could also be said that he had already planned to usurp her power before you went to the temple and knew that if you drank from the well he would eventually be forced to use Mythals geas against you.

He really emphasizes that you'd be bound to Mythal, that's the part he doesn't like I gather. "You are Mythal's creature now, every action you take from now whether you know it or not will be for her." Personally I feel he disapproves because you've potentially given up your freedom and agency. I don't think it's because it'd somehow make you a threat to him.

Everything's perfect, great analysis, thank you:"))) and I have MORE to add (though im not sure just how important this is) BUT i believe Mythal was also a part of Andraste cuz Andraste is often called "Lady of SORROWS" and then we have Mythal's :Well of SORROWS: and she connected with Flemeth who has been betrayed by her husband/family, just like Mythal was betrayed by her fam and ANDRASTE TOO was betrayed by her husband/fam (did Mythal come to her as she was burning and that is why her Ashes were so important?!). And then there's the moment where Flemeth describes how she was a desperate woman crying in the woods (or sth to that effect) when Mythal came to her. And there's a similar story about Andraste! Sth odd/extremely overwhelming happened to her in the woods and she doesn't remember! And yeah, both Flemeth and Andraste were Alamarri. There's also the connection of Andraste to lyrium (Sacred Ashes temple built on lyrium + the Sacred Ashes temple DRAGON of all things) and Andraste's ashes having power (can't there be a living essence of Mythal as a piece of her being in the ashes? There's just so much, I think this all HAS TO be connected..... what do ya guys think?

Just a thought, if Mythal knew Solas was coming for her power, she could of taken the part of her she got from Keirnan and stowed it away in someone/something else. When Solas drains Flemeth, that part she took from Keirnan could be used to restore Flemeth or someone else can take her place. After all, now that either Morrigan or the Inq. have partook of the Well of Sorrows, either of them could be compelled to restore Flemeth.

@Ability Drain what I'm thinking is, that, she gave him her immortality. Flemeth being an original old God herself, gave up the part of her that makes her an old God, and immortal. Now she's just a normal blood mage. And what we have been seeing are her vessels. And the REAL Flemeth is still plotting her revenge USING solas, to bring down the veil. What she hid away was a core of her power that I bet the next main character will either possess, or revolve around.

I think their plans line up....to an extent. We don't know yet what Solas intends to do once the Evanuris are free. But he wants to be rid of them. And so does Mythal. Their main goal is the same. Everything up to it and after is separate, until proven otherwise.

Hmm the theory about old god souls being fragments of Mythal's soul sounds pretty interesting and I can totally see that being the case. This also ties in with Flemythal transforming into a dragon and all the old god souls being in dragons. Bet the rest of the Evanuris knew they couldn't just kill her for good, and fragmented her soul & hid the pieces. Or.. maybe Mythal knew she'd be killed and hid parts of her soul like Voldermort lol. Or... getting a little tin foily here, maybe the rest of the Evanuris had to split Mythal's soul up to contain the blight; that they HAD to kill her. About the "they made bodies from the earth" - maybe that's how they made physical people from spirits, like maybe that's how Solas was made?

I don't think she communicated with kieran via dreams, otherwise she would have known where he was. Each old god had a name and spoke with a high priest. I don't know if they were all Flemeth because she "has had many names". But thinking about her betrayal, I will be a little poetic and say that the lyrium idol might, yes, be her final moment set in stone. It is the final moment of a mother being slain by her kids, and also a son, having his mother slain in front of him. This would be a painful, dark, horrible memory crystalized. It does look like a person crying over a corpse. Maybe that is why everyone becomes so paranoid in contact with this. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Meredith have horrible experiences with abominations, something related with her family whatnot; Bartrand betraying and leaving his brother to die. Also, when Morrigan tells the warden about Flemeth's direct connections to the blight, but didn't mention a thing when they meet just add more to the mystery.

Jackdaw are we really sure that she is dead ? In the comic she was stabbed by Alistair, but the fact is that for her mother, death is like the flue (and also for Morrigan who you can stab at the end of Witch Hunt). What about Yavana ? The lack of reaction of the dragon seems odd and I’m not « sure » that she is dead. The next game will be in northern Thedas, Telari Swamp are not this far from Antiva and we might hear more from her. On the other side, even if the Silent Grove did talk mostly about Yavana, the plan was started my Mythal a long time ago, maybe back in the days of Calenhad. Why would she stop here ? The blood of Alistair is a mystery on itself that seems to be linked to a lot of point that are related to Mythal like the Preservation of « what was lost » (dragons, magic). I really think that there is more to tell about Yavana, and the mission that Mythal gave to her.... and maybe more of her daughter.

@@AbsolNoxious Not to mention that Alistair could be dead in two out of five possible worldstate paths. Alistair could be king, a Warden, an ex-Warden and current drunk, the ultimate sacrifice hero, or beheaded at the Landsmeet. I would also say that only a king Alistair who is married to Anora or a female Cousland would likely end up taking on the quest to find Maric. Ruling alone might make him want to stay put, since his death would cause chaos in Ferelden. Whereas with Anora or a female Cousland one of them could take over if necessary. Also, for this reason, I think BioWare needs to drop the stupid idea of Alistair being Fiona's son. Aside from making no sense and being impossible according to the facts presented in Origins, if Alistair is dead then it means Calanhad's bloodline dies with him. However, if Maric had a separate son with Fiona, that means the bloodline lives on regardless of what happens to Alistair. I'd also like to see a human mage companion in DA4 who has the blood of elves and taint immunity. That would be very relevant to the plots, don't you think? So yeah, Yavana should return in DA4.

@@BelieveIt1051 I actually read a wicked theory by someone who saw an interview with Steve Valentine where he commented on how being a hero is fine, but being the villain is juicer, and the person speculated that Alistair - if he's alive in your game - could have a path to being a Bad Guy (tm) in DA4, and I've never been able to let go of it since. Honestly, if he's alive he's been through INSANE sh*t, and - even though he was a bit of a brat in DAO - he has somehow grown up, or somehow his love for the Warden kept him sane. So, yeah, I could see it. Maybe he rails against his blood line in the end. Maybe against the Wardens. Maybe he chooses the Architect. I think Mythal created the dwarves out of the bodies of dead Titans to be lyrium mining slaves and "made them forget" what they once were, which is why Dwarves don't dream and can't (typically) enter the fade. Cole alludes to this when he speaks of Templars: "They feel older than they look. They've been changed, and their bodies are incomplete now. The lyrium helps, but their bodies always want to connect to... something older. Bigger than they are. That's why they block magic. They reach for that other thing, and magic has no room to come in. Tbh i never took that scene for Solas murdering her. They seemed to be old friends, she seems to have been working on something for a while, she appears to be expecting Solas, or at the very least isn’t surprised to see him, it also appears to me that she gives him her essence and that it’s not him taking it. Also isn’t Mythal and Flemeth dead? Like both the spirit and the human? I thought what they were died long ago and all that they were now was something akin to “fragments scattered to the wind”? also while mythall may cause the calling which is understandable since she taught gray wardens the ritual but doubt she cause the blight atleast on purpose if it was intentional solas would not hate it and the blight the way he do. But what if the blight was the reason she was killed she found, made, or whatever the blight the other gods wanted to use it for something armor like androal or soldiers that would worship absolutely for vanity (cant remember who it was) or tools for vengeance elgernon. And they killed her to get it and so she couldn't stop them from using it which would explain why having a child cure being a gray warden which is what she basically governs hell it effects them having children. maybe they used her blood to make brood mothers which is why they spit out children becoming one makes her curse. (side note maybe solas could have made brood mothers by trying to force mythall's blood on a dwarf violating what they are just know proof just that could have been his orginal mistake that he gave up on n hated what he created that cole spoke of). but anyway she may cause but the true villain is whoever sings the song that they follow.

I think Flemeth already *has* a new body to occupy. Whoever was left in the Fade. If it was a Warden then it’d be no doubt that she could take them. A. Assuming that the Blight is connected to her, she has them due to the Joining. She’d also make a deal saving them from the Fade since it seems she likes having ‘willing’ hosts. B. Hawke has worked with her before. If you’re funny with her as she saves you from the Blight it reminds me of how she spoke with Morigan. And Hawke seems crazy enough to do it tbh. Plus funny Hawke does ask if she can teach them to do that and Flemeth is basically says sure. Albeit sarcastically

If it really *is* a piece of Mythal that she sent through the eluvian, I think that part of DA4 will be trying to retrieve it in order to stop Solas. We've seen in Tevinter Nights that Solas is ridiculously powerful now and he won't be able to be stopped through normal "stab him till he dies" means

Part of me was thinking "She speaks the calling" What if up until now, everything we thought we knew about the Blights was wrong? That is, 4 grey wardens DID kill 4 archdemons before the 5th blight, BUT...what if the 5th blight isn't the first time the ritual was performed? Why would someone who speaks the calling be interested in other beings who speak the calling? My hypothesis is that the old gods are fragments of Mythal cast away from the whole and collecting these old god souls is how Mythal will become whole again, ready to take revenge on the Evanuris. I believe Solas's plan might be to deliver the final two souls to Morrigan (likely the current host of Mythal) using the red lyrium idol. A reborn Mythal might be his "I had plans" Mythal might just see the blights as necessary to break herself free, but she gives the wardens a way to keep the world from being destroyed completely while still helping her. However, Solas may wish to go a step further than Mythal does. I believe Mythal simply wishes to kill the Evanuris for good. Not destroy the world. Solas, however, believes that he was wrong to create the veil and sees more value in the old world than the new one. Perhaps Mythal will be the voice of reason that stays his hand.

I feel like DA has overwhelming lore, it has always been extremely hard for me to get into. It doesn't help that it has some Tolkien elements either, like the same deity having 6 or so names across different races or depictions. Even though I played all 3 games at least twice each, I still feel like I barely know anything about the world. Well, at least that never detracted me from actually playing the games. Never felt that with Mass Effect, although I'm pretty sure ME doesn't have nearly as much lore in comparison.

AHHHHHHHH. You always post on WORKDAYS. Ok, now that I've listened to the entire thing, a couple points I'm interested in: I think this whole "murdered Mythal" thing makes zero sense. They may have ended her body, but her spirit obviously still exists. So, I really want to know what they actually _did_. Perhaps I've been seduced by the throaty voice of Kate Mulgrew, but I no longer believe Mythal is the bad guy. If she DID go to war with the Titans, thought she was doing the right thing, and then learned otherwise, I really do believe she tried to fix it. But my best guess is one or more of the others (Solas could be wrong about who or which was ultimately responsible) got way addicted to lyrium power and wanted this new status quo to remain. Again, my money is on Andruil and Ghil'a'nan. But the vengeance angle is interesting; perhaps Elg'a'nan is mixed up in this too, somehow. Did she absorb his power too? The Blight got created somehow. I still think that her cry as Flemeth about them "nearly destroying the world" refers to the Blighted lyrium that escaped (thank you, Hawke). But maybe it would have escaped anyhow. The Calling definitely keeps Blighted creatures digging. On that note, I believe Mythal knows the Calling, not that she is singing it. It would be interesting if she could or was, but it's not really copacetic with a hut in the woods in the middle of the Fifth Blight, though I suppose you could argue the darkspawn go around her for some reason. I don't know if I believe it because I want it to be true or because I caught hints in the narrative, but I truly expect that Mythal and Solas' true fight will be the red lyrium, and fixing the damage to the Titans.

I always thought the old gods' souls were just the elven gods other than Mythal and Fen'Harel. Between what the gods rule over and the number, it lines up pretty dang well with 7 remaining elven gods and 7 old gods. I always thought that was why Flemeth was so interested in collecting them but does that not make sense?

I had a thought about Flemeth. Could Flemeth be more of a title than a person? After all, every daughter she possesses goes by Flemeth. Which would make "Flemeth" an alias for the human woman bearing Mythal's soul. This could explain the records of Flemeth before the Flemeth from the Ferelden legend, supposedly born in the Towers Age I think? This would make up for any discrepancies in the timeline. And, if Flemeth is more of a title, then Towers Flemeth could have had different name before becoming Flemeth. If Flemeth became far more well known after the supposed events of her legend, any name she might have had before becoming Flemeth could have been lost to history.

I still believ Mythal is alive. She's lived for thousands of years. She has a contingency plan for everything. If not through talks, then through action itself. I'm certain she will come back. If there is a strong possibility for Fen'Harel to go after Morrigan and Kieran and threaten their lives, you can bet on it that Mythal will protect them with her life.

Just a thought...Mythal had sent something through the Illuvian-what was it? I believe that Mythal will probably return, she has planned for everything, guiding and manipulating events to lead to a certain point where ALL choices and events meet to culminate in one final climactic confrontation...hmmm..just a thought. (More of a hope - Mythal is my favorite character as is the the actress behind her voice Kate Mulgrew :)

Still wondering myself, how did she will get revenge?, what is that thing that it’s gonna shake the very heavens?, the blight against the evanuris?, and how is the blight related to her?, is she the source or something else aid her...

Mythal wants revenge for her betrayal. The other gods betrayed her. Solas betrays the other gods after they betrayed mythal by creating the veil. Solas wants to destroy the veil he created which will bring back the gods he betrayed. For mythal to get her vengeance she needs the gods back. Mythal is using solas to do this but is her revenge strong enough that she would sacrifice herself to make it happen. She sounds heated enough, and we know bodily death doesnt mean spiritual death in da.

In my theory, every old god represent a fragment of an evanuris not including Fen'harel and Mythal as there are only seven old gods. since tevinter imperium came long after the elves it couldn't worship more than that because mythal was already killed and solas was in a slumber. there's no denial that there must be some strong connection with evanuris and the old gods or at least high dragons. from the first dialogue with flemeth in DA2 it's up to debate what connection to dragons she has as she stated that maybe she is a dragon. this might be the case just for her and not the other evanuris but still...

Wait so.. as a player who's Hero of Fereldan really cares for Morrigan and wants to protect her from anything bad that might happen to her... Should I let her drink from the Well or not? Because Flemmeth says Morrigan was never in any danger from her... But then in the end Flemmeth dies and then I guess Solas takes a part of her Mythal soul. If memory serves me correct Solas doesn't really like Morrigan so if he wants more Mythal power from her something tells me he's willing to kill Morrigan for it.

@@hanapanda1069 Because he doesn't care about or like Morrigan imo, that's why there's no reaction from him if she does. It can't be both, only one drinks from the well, and it can't always be the Inquisitor, because in some worldstates that just doesn't happen.
