Strange and Sinister

Күн бұрын

In this video, I delve into the scary story of a mysterious haunting that occurred on Kennedy Hill road in the small town of Byron, Illinois. Beginning in December of 1980, multiple drivers witnessed a half-dressed woman walking barefoot on Kennedy Hill road, a secluded area four miles from downtown Byron. When drivers would turn around to offer the woman help, she would always be gone.
The mysterious ghost was a sensation in the press and became known as the Phantom Lady of Kennedy Hill Road. The scary ghost sightings continued into 1981 before coming to an end, although some people claim to have seen the woman in the road years later. Join me as I unravel the scary story of the Kennedy Hill ghost who terrified locals over 40 years ago.

Hello. My wife and I lived in that farm house on Kennedy Hill rd. Supposedly the ghost was our land lady’s sister who was killed. She was wearing a dress. We both grew up in that area. We are 57 years old, do the math LOL. So this story was common place. We live in Tennessee now but when we go home to visit I will take pictures of the hill and house for you. That hill is steep and dangerous. Mark

Pretty awesome. See, I lived south of Rockford at the time, and drove down Kennedy Hill road every day from 1979 to 1981 while working on the Byron nuclear plant. We would often stop at a bar, called "the Barn" in Byron before heading home, making most of the drive later at night. Sometimes we worked long shifts and work pretty late. One guy I worked with seen her on the road, and it shook him up pretty good. I also noticed that the footage in the video isn't just random farm road, but the actual road. Pretty cool after all these years. I am 67 now, but still remember it well. January and Febuary were cold as hell at that time, where wind chills could reach 20 to 40 below zero. Winter of 80-81 we had a huge near record snowstorm and the gal was seen no more.... and yes, some sightings were very late at night... 1 to 2am.

@@StrangeandSinister1 Yes. He said it was about a mile and a half south of Montague road, in a barren stretch where there is just fields on both sides. He seen a girl, maybe early 20's, walking on the side of the road wearing only a skimpy nightgown. It was late at night (after 11pm) and the temperature was about 20 degrees. He was certain she needed help so he stopped alongside her. He asked her what why she was out there. He got out of his truck to help, and when he got around to the passenger side, she was no longer there. Just completely gone, yet there was no where and no time for her to have run or hidden. Shook him up pretty good.

My daughter was born in 1979. They told me I might have to go to the hospital on a snowmobile lol. I remember I fell in a snowbank 9mths pregnant. My Mom had just dropped me off and she didn't see me fall. No whales have ever been beached in flakes like I was that night! Idk how I didn't go into labor. My landlord came and helped me up thank God. We lived out in the boonies growing up there. The roads were hardly wide enough for 2 cars. And with blizzards..ugh! Our school bus literally got stuck in between the WALLS of snow because that's how they plowed it. So crazy! Good old nuke plant. Still working. Thank God again. My late sisinlaw worked there for awhile.😀

So many ghostly ladies on the road stories all over the country, and they are all so interesting. A co-worker swore to me that he and his sister, when kids, saw a lady walking between the road and the river at night as they walked home from a movie theater. The woman was very pale and in a white dress. She was gliding along knee deep in the soil along the river, as that had been ground level a century earlier. The kids ran the other way in fright. He was dead serious about this and was still frightened by the long-ago experience.

This is such a great channel!!!! The pesentation, content, music, and footage are all fantastic! So many lazy and/or greedy youtubers speak too fast, use stupid background music, show random footage that is not relevant or related to the story, or focus WAY too much on cryptids or aliens, instead of true stories of hauntings/ghosts (which so many more people experience). I hope there's many more of these wonderful bone-chilling true ghost stories to come! Great job!!! 🤜🤛 👻👻👻

My ex husband moved into an older home in the late 90’s. Our daughter was in college then and only went there some weekends and holiday breaks. She said she always got a weird feeling when she did laundry in the basement. After my ex moved out my daughter saw the neighbors to that house out for dinner one night. They asked if she knew the history of that house. There was a couple in the 50-60 age group that owned the house. They had a grown daughter who was married and had a young son. The SIL got cancer and died. Their daughter was very distraught and was very depressed. The parents invited their daughter and grandson to move into the house with them. The daughter became more depressed and hung herself in the detached garage. The grandson continued to live there but he became depressed after losing his father and then mother. When the grandson was in his teens he hung himself in the basement of the house. The owners moved out after that. My ex knew the history but never told my daughter.

Funny thing - I was tasked with jumping into a company pickup truck to drive out to and load up a replacement engine my employer purchased from an affiliated company of Byron Nuclear Generating Station in 1979. I was young, dumb and ambitious so the driving job, taking four days total didn't faze me until I did it. Man, what a boring drive, all flat farming land. Cell or smart phones didn't exist yet, maps were all paper and music was all AM radio on that Chevy truck. Not too far from my destination I stopped into a road diner to grab dinner. People were friendly. I overheard a conversation some locals were having with the waitress that had something to do with truckers stopping to check on someone laying on the road - that turned out to be what they assumed was a mirage or tricks on the eyes. I wish I could say it was on Kennedy Hill Road but I just don't remember. But a ghost was quite an urban legend in Byron, I remember that.

My whole fam worked at Quality Metals there for years. Some of us at different times. We lived across from the cemetary. I took my daughter and moved to Rockford after we broke up. Traveled up and down Kennedy Hill hundreds of times over many years as my fam lived off Montague. Never saw the spook tho. Heard plenty. A friend of ours actually DID go off Kennedy at the bottom of that hill across route 2. Into the trees. But SHE didn't die. We had 2 friends who died on route 2 tho. One was just a little girl, playmate of my daughters. I had a wreck on Kennedy Hill myself. Definitely was a scary road to drive on in winter. Thanks for the vid. Boy was that a rush!😳🥶👻

Our old, old house got torn down after my parents moved to route 2. Weldon itself was almost a driveway lol. Hardly room for 2 cars. So much nostalgia tonight. Half my fam is gone sadly. Where I live (Ontario canada) we get some of the coldest winters around. I can't see someone running around half naked, bare foot, in the middle of winter on a snowy night. They would get severely sick, get frostbite, lose a toe from said frostbite, plus stepping out into the snow barefoot hurts like hell (having done it when my boot got stuck in a snow bank), I can't see someone walking down a road bare foot while suffering from that kind of icy pain.

Okay, so the apparition was seen by individual drivers at night. They went and told other people about it. Rumor spread like wild fire. Everyone gets intrigued about it and flocks down to see the ghost and suddenly the apparation just stops manifesting itself?! It just doesnt add up. The only thing i think of is that people had nothing better to do in the early 1980's ( when they're wasn't any mobile or smartphones), and so they made this up in order to prank or to create a sensation. This ghost isn't real.

@@StrangeandSinister1 very cool, so glad you made a video on it. I shared it with several friends! Yes, there was a prominent farming family who built a large home way back off Kennedy Hill road (which is called Westfield further north) on their massive, mostly wooded property, and there are at least three white brick guard houses just off Kennedy Hill Rd. and one more on Route 2, where Kennedy Hill dead ends heading east. The guard houses haven’t been occupied for sometime, though someone still lives in the family home, and offers a room for Air B&B. When I heard this story back in the 80's it was the one of a girl that ran off the end of the road and drowned. Only it was that people picked up the ghost and drove her to her home on Kennedy Hill and she would leave her sweater in the car. When the driver tried to return it the family would inform them their daughter had drown. There are so many different stories out there about her. I do believe people did encounter a ghost on this road but wish the truth would be discovered.

I heard the part about the girl driving through route 2 into the river, but not the sweater part. A girl allegedly died in a car accident while traveling down the hill. The stories are slightly similar to Resurrection Mary, which I covered in another video if you want to watch it.

I hadn't heard this story before - Troy Taylor seems to have missed it. It is certainly unusual - as you say, the weather conditions aren't condicive to a prank, but the girl's dress changes don't fit traditional ghost behaviour. Perhaps she took offence at being enshrined on a tee shirt? Enjoy the story, anyway.
