Would you withdraw RM109,000 from a bank, and then...
(1) Put the money in a bag and leave it on the front seat of your car?
(2) Then go for a drink at a nearby restaurant?
Is this headmaster criminally stupid or just negligent or careless?
The money meant for the school was reimbursed by the taxpayer.

Something is stinkingly fishy. Even if after the thorough investigation and he is found to be be found to be "not involved" , he should still be penalised. He should be made to replace the money for not observing protocol and acting "carelessly stupid" . It's the tax payer's hard earned money.

Whilst it is subjudicial to comment/opine on the matter directly, examples of such theft are never without planning. Who is tip off about the withdrawal of the funds from the bank? How a large sum of money cannot be hidden from view in the boot of the car? Most of all, why should such sum be conveyed physically when there exists in the 21 Century electronic fund transfer. It even beggars belief that such a crime can be committed today.

No! The headmaster wouldn't have left the withdrawn money in the front passenger seat if it was HIS MONEY! This is extremely fishy. He is lucky that his life wasn't in jeopardy. As an educator, I can only shake my head in shame on how educators have lost integrity, quality and common sense!

The HM should face disciplinary action by the Ministry and made to pay for the amount stolen through his negligence. If the HM is later fount to have been implicated in the theft, he should be arrested and charged.

My neighbour is a teacher of a school in Subang Jaya. When the principal wanted to collect cash, the principal requested PDRM assistance in this matter. PDRM response was very good and prompt. 3 police officers came in their police car. 1 officer sat in the principal's car and the other 2 officers were in their car, escorted to and fro school. When arrived at school with the cash, the officer who sat in the principal's car, escorted the principal until her office. All officers were fully armed. This shows that all you have to do is just ask PDRM for help, they WILL help. In this theft, the principal should pay from his own pocket. It is his arrogance and stupidity that this theft happened. The principal should be terminated from his service without any compensations. No such thing as remorse or the famous line, "Saya minta maaf terhadap insiden ini..." should be taken in to consideration at all. Just imagine how many parents were dissapointed over this incident.

I used to work with a retail chain and was tasked with depositing cash 3 times a week. The highest amount I've handled was around RM 20k. I always placed it out of sight and made sure to go directly to the bank. I also had to vary the route taken to reduce the risk of theft.

Fully agree with you on this matter. His negligence whether intentional or not, should not be excused or swept under the carpet and he should not be exonerated of this misdemeanor act. Perhaps a hard lesson learned would make him wiser and more responsible. Repay the loss with his own money and resign as headmaster! Shouldn’t the MoE and MACC take the proper and just action and conduct a serious and thorough investigation? I think your guess is as good as mine.

Thank you Mariam Mokthar for sharing. To me, it's as clear as daylight, this is a collaborated theft. The various steps or actions of the headmaster are highly suspicious, non- sensical (not in the right mind), purposeful and calculated. Why did he went to the bank alone?, why he left the bag on the front seat so prominently seen instead of in the booth or covered?, why he left the bag and went for a drink? why so long a delay before reporting to police? This headmaster and his conspirators cannot be let off. The police need to detain him and get to the bottom of this drama!

Extremely Disappointed with the Headmaster.. Even a officer who has a gun will think twice about going alone to withdraw such a huge amount of money from the bank.. Did the Educational Department Officers knows about this matter and the way he was withdrawing the money for his students..

The Police should investigate the matter thoroughly and beginning with the headmaster and his alleged conspirators. If he is found to be complicit in the matter, his salary can be garnished/or immediate dismissal from his position. It is such a blatant theft and stupidly executed to lead to the people who are complicit in the commission of the crime of theft. So sad that he thinks he can fool anyone of such crime.

No matter what excuses the HM has given, the agenda behind any cash distributions itself is suspicious & should be prohibited! The HM has the full responsibility & obligations to ensure top security & best custody of the monies if he/she volunteered himself/herself to play the role of security officer (unsure if he/she has the authority & right to do so). Can any security officer left the van/truck carrying monies for a drinks or breaks? It’s clearly the failure in his duty & serious inquiry & stern actions should be taken

In the 90s when I was a Financial Officer, amount banked-in, or withdrawn, from the bank, exceeding 100k needed to be escorted by a Police Inspector!

It is a straight forward clumsy inside job. carried out by the Headmaster concerned, he should have been stood down, and be held responsible for the loss, if he cannot repay then he should be sacked and charged in court for causing the loss of the money, period. All this has been pre-planned, his name should be made public.

Usually the head master will come to the bank with 2 or 3 teachers to cash the money because the cheque is in the name of the head master. In this case the head master is responsible for his negligence

The headmaster is the suspect. Even if he managed to bring home or to the office the cash safely, where would he keep the cash then... It doesnt make sense at all.....he would have his own plan..... Check out his bank account, his family members bank accounts, his recent purchases or whatever....there must be a clue somewhere...

I went to SSM few years ago to close my company and was kicked around from one unit to another , from one level to another . The officer in charged was either on leave or training . Then I passed at one of the level, there was big lunch makan makan for the government servant . It seems life as government servant was all rosy with less work and more enjoyment whereas the private sector is striving to save cost and improve profit

I have a true story. A teacher lost her bag left inside her car when the window was smashed. The thief took also the answer scripts of the students trial exam papers. It was a hassle when a new test has to be conducted.

What is done is done , never jeopardize another teacher or any body who is not train to escort money. That is not their job. When you put someone in a position at the top or a job, make sure he has an IQ to do it. A child failure is not fr the child but fr the teacher that mean it started from the mother the first teacher and so on, a teacher failure is from his superior and the education higher level.

The most pressing thought on the mind of a person tasked with carrying such a lot of money would be to quickly send the money to a safe place. In this case, I found it impossible to believe the man had done the exact opposite - especially today, when the crime rate is high and thieves and robbers are plentiful. I'm sure he would have read of similar incidents in the newspaper. He should bear a major part of the loss - maybe pay over a period of ten years.

there is no mystery, the headmaster is accountable and should be relieved of his job in school, he should be send to warm an easy post back in education department headquarters and perhaps someday in near future be promoted with higher perks and salary, he will then retired and get his pension, a farewell dinner not less of a 5 star hotel will held for him using public fund of course.. this is his birthright as a public servant in this beloved country of ours
