Жыл бұрынQatar was the little-known nation that sprung into the international spotlight by hosting the World Cup, the world’s biggest sporting event. It was a stunning success on the field despite controversy off it, but there was another team that got lost in the shuffle of the build-up. The Qatar women’s national team, which used to play, simply disappeared from the FIFA records about eight years ago.
I went on a mission to track down this rare national team that just stopped playing. There really was no precedent for vanishing from the FIFA rankings without a massive domestic disturbance at home so it was a unique thing to look for. Fortunately, there was some excellent on-the-ground reporting that allowed us to learn what really happened and where these women might go from here.

It's sad how Qatar used womens football to lie. The saddest thing is, that many of the women involved probably actually cared about the sport, even if they were aware it was a publicity stunt. Must have been hard knowing, you are on borrowed time, having to lie, while you actually enjoy a sport.

While hard, truth is that without the WC Qatar would have never tried to develop a women national team even in bad faith. The jokes is actually on them: there's never been more women playing 11-a-side football than since they tried to use it as a way to get the WC.

May I recommend HITC Sevens? The topics of his documentaries (yes, that word applies to much of his content) vary from EPL stuff to incredibly niche topics that most people wouldn't even think about. Zealand and HITC Sevens have talked about collaborating at one point, but they struggle to find a good fit. But otherwise I wouldn't advertise a differen channel in this comment section.

@@DrZaius3141 I do watch HITC sevens and their various documentaries, although I subjectively find Zealand much more fun to watch and entertaining in his style. A key difference is that HITC dives into deep extreme topics in his videos, while Zealand dives into EVERYTHING. He made a video about every team in the world cup, before that he made many videos following the progression of qualification in every single continent with no exception. While HITC sevens would target the egdes of the football world Zealand tackles the edges, the mainstream and most importantly: the thing that is in between. Things that aren't very extreme like football in the middle east or china or India or north korea but isn't that mainstream to be spoken about frequently just yet. Thus my request.

I watch football at all levels, even done a little coaching. The last few years have been tough as I've become increasingly socially conscious. More and more I feel the money sucking the soul out of the sport, the same way I feel about video games. I've watched the crest of the club I've loved for two decades become a hate symbol after the Saudi ownership, and been ostracized by my fellow supporters for speaking out about it. My local team that I've attended since their inception just had a pitch invasion so violent it even ended up on Zealand's radar. Nobody should have to have a war with their conscience over what they enjoy. Fuck the money.

This reminds me a lot of the Cook Islands national team, they basically only play WC qualifiers and maybe OFC nations cup qualifiers and thats actually why they spent a good chunk of time not being on the FIFA ranking due to inactivity until this’ WC qualifiers. Interesting!

It really looks like Qutar just invested in a women's league long enough to secure the world cup bid and weather the storm of the scandal surrounding that bid, and then when they were in the clear, they pulled the plug since it didn't matter anymore

it was all fake. just so they could get the world cup. it was one of the things fifa requied wasnt it? but it was obviously all fake because 1 they barely give women any rights anyway over there, 2 they don't really care about football over there, they just wanted the world cup money. although i don't think they realised that if you need to build stadiums for a world cup then you dont make money from the world cup, its quite logical and simple. and 3 no one really cares about womens football. it doesnt generate any money and doesnt get any viewing figures so qatar aren't interested in womens football or having a womens football team. moral of the story is. don't get too shocked that qatar doesn't care about their womens football team and got rid of it.

The 2030 World Cup can't be held in the AFC or in CONCACAF because '22 was awarded to Qatar and '26 was awarded to USA-Mexico-Canada. So, they'll do that for '34.

Despite most of the western world being good on rights and freedoms, most of those ideas are secular ideas brought on by the separation of religious ideas from governance, not specifically Christian ideals. Let's ignore the fact that women in many countries only recently gained equal rights under the law in the last 100 years or less, and in some places (the US specifically) those rights are being eroded. You're welcome to think otherwise, but this is just historical fact There's nothing wrong with some of what you said, but claiming that Muslims are incompatible with football and that football is somehow "a christian ideal" is just beyond ridiculous. I remember the passage in the New Testament in which Jesus said, "and let these women play football. It's a sport that won't exist for 1900 more years but when it exists, make sure to let them play!" Many of those countries listed in this very video that Qatar played against are also Muslim with women's teams. Or do they not count for some reason? You can't just pick and choose while ignoring other countries - some of which are mentioned in this very video. Saudi, Qatar, and other gulf states are not representative of the Muslim world as a whole.

Perceiving factual discussion about the Qatari women's national team as anti-Islam propaganda is a part of the problem, it's not an attack on Islam or Arab culture.
