Kai is a longtime sufferer of depression himself, and if you watched the show, you’d realize this. Unfortunately, I think this contributed to a lot of the backlash - Kai had been in a dark place, self-isolating and even in tears on occasion, and this incident seemed like it was way over the top and people feared that *Kai* might end up harming himself. Of course he should have checked the washer, but I’ll forgive a depressed person for forgetting to do that. Hana had every right to be upset, but she should also have taken responsibility for her own things and not left it in the washer. The fact is, neither Hana nor Kai deserved the situation they were put it. The only people to blame are the producers and the creeps who bullied her.

Miyazaki is so right and I trust him with all my heart, he made anime a beautiful wholesome thing for many people. To be honest I’ve hated on the majority of the anime out there due to this. Those irritatingly boring stereotypes of yandere/tsundere etc etc are just cringe and repeated over and over again ad nauseum and the people who watch them thinking they’re so cool/cultured are basic simple minded morons. I had a boyfriend for a very short time who I broke up with because he told me he wanted a small Asian girl (so he could pretend it was his fave anime waifu I guess) and this just made me understand even more how damaging these false ideals of women are Sad that Hana had to be a victim of this. I know she just wanted to be accepted and playing the heel must have been hard for her but she did it so she could comply with the shows requirements. I always thought she was sweet and generally a good person when watching the show, despite her having to pretend otherwise

He had it sitting in the freezer, and the other housemates ate it without his knowing/permission (the only one who knew it was his/special was his girlfriend, who also ate it). When he confronted the other housemates about it and explained why he was upset, the housemates were pretty dismissive about it. He expressed that he understood it was just meat to them, but to him, it was special. They kind of had a "sorry, but we didn't know," attitude about it in response, and even implied he was unreasonably upset. The panel of hosts clowned him like no other. I only have this context because I'm rewatching all the seasons on Netflix and saw the meat incident play out again yesterday.

@@goldenkamuy1441 yea...as said, with reality shows i obviously never take it at face value and i am aware that some things are staged, but i truly underestimated the extent of it in this case. i think with terrace house it is also a bit of a different situation because it is so explicitly marketed as being realistic and NOT staged; i mean thats also why i liked it because it was really not as dramatic as other shows and felt more real. so it shocked me more than it would have with other shows.

No need to assert your superiority complex. The show was manipulative and you don’t get an award for recognizing that when the intention of the show is to be believable.

Why should the people "in charge" be held accountable? They're just staff of a show. The members can depict themselves however they wanted to. They knew they were being filmed. Blame this on mental health and the cyberbullies, not anyone or anything else. If mental health is still taboo to discuss, make it less taboo by actually talking about it.

Its no one fault, sometime life can be that way tho. People need to stop looking for others to blame because someone took their own life. Death is sad and hurtful, people will often look for any way to explain it, even at the expense of others. The cyber bullying is terrible and should not be condone but everyone who has ever been famous had to deal with it, many did not take their own life. The problem is not with anyone but her own mental health. RIP Hana.

Mental health does not just come out of nowhere, it can be triggered by someone or things that happens in our life. Also, it is a taboo in Japan to talk about mental health. But what I meant by the "people in charge" is the staff that manipulated the show. I don't think people realize how easy it might be to manipulate someone in a similar situation. LITERALLY!!! This video actually got me to watch TH Tokyo and when the episode finally came, I was like .. seriously??? Yeah Hana and kai were both wrong, but obviously hana worked hard with her wrestling and those costumes meant a lot to her, so yeah it makes sense that she would get really upset. It makes me so sad, she was such a sweetheart(I only watched the episodes including her and on LOL). RIP 🥺💕

I had to sit trough a lot of months with my tailor to find the best design and fit and everything. It cost me 1200 Chf (Swiss Francs) and believe me, when someone messes up my 1200 bucks expensive and personal ring attire, i would rain hellfire upon you.

And, IIRC, that was the outfit she wore when she was part of the Stardom special dark match at New Japan Pro Wrestling's Wrestle Kingdom 14 (a *huge* deal, not only because that's a major venue, but also because that was the *first* joshi puro match to ever take place at a Wrestle Kingdom), so that's a major piece of sentimental value as well.

I almost wanted to watch the show because it looked so much more appealing and different than all the other reality shows on tv. From the trailers I've seen, the show just seemed much "happier" and had this warmth to it, but boy was I wrong lol. I'm glad I dodged a bullet with this show.

I don’t know how other reality shows work, but to me a lot of their actions cross the line. Cast members were forced in front of the camera, encouraged to be groped unconsensually, and the other things listed in the video. I used to be a fan but I can’t watch this show anymore after learning the disgusting truth. And here I thought we could have a “good reality” show. I think it would have been interesting even without these staged events, as I never was one to like hating on the cast, and having lived with roommates myself, know there is always some Level of drama naturally. If other shows are in the same vein of exploitation then this kind of tv doesn’t need to exist.

Maybe it would be more natural for them to be together in a way that wasn't monogamous, or a friendship with benefits, I don't know... but because they met in a reality show, and the japanese culture is conservative, there was an expectation that they should start a commited, normative relationship. And they played along. They actually dated, but In my opinion, some aspects of their relationship were performative. Tsubasa seemed a bit unconfortable in the show, and after leaving Terrace House, she said that she felt like she was expected to dress more feminine because she was dating Shion. He, on the other hand, said in interviews that she would go to Tokyo to visit her male friends (many of her friendships are men), and would also use the opportunity to spend time with him... it sounded like he was a bit insecure about his station in her life. I guess that when relationships are built on external expectations, both parties end up feeling insecure and unfulfilled.

I get that her costume was extremely important to her and I absolutely loved (still love) Hana but I am capable of holding my faves accountable. Her costume was important to her yet she left it in the washing machine? Come on now. My house usually has electrical fluctuations and because I hold my devices dear, I don't leave them plugged in longer than they need to be. Feeling me? Also, how are you any different than the people who relentlessly bullied Hana? Kai very obviously respects Hana (yes I used the present tense) but being as they were BOTH manipulated by the network, people are still pointing fingers at Kai. I once cried because someone accused me of stealing a pencil from a friend, imagine being blamed for someone's death when you were helpless in the matter. Hana deserved better. Kai deserved better. Everyone who were intentionally vilified by this series deserved better.

@@the_tea05 if you actually watched the show, you’d know that Kai is a long-time sufferer of depression, and was visibly in a very dark place towards the end of his stint on the show. He was becoming withdrawn, cried on camera and looked tired and tense all the time. Depressed people don’t always pay attention to what they’re doing, they’re going through the motions, so for him to put the washer on without checking it is so typical of someone in a depressed stupor. When Hana confronted him, it was like watching someone verbally smacking someone who was already in a really bad mental state, and that’s partly why the initial backlash against her.

The scene was scripted. Neither Hana nor Kai were at fault, this was all Fujita TV’s doing.
