First impressions are the unconscious categorization of people. In order to change the outcome of first impressions, Quita Christison is redefining the "5 Second Rule" with a new 5 Second Rule: STOP, See The Other Person. Quita’s two competing passions are theater and health care. She’s been able to merge these two passions at Next Step, an organization that provides teens and young adults living with chronic illness experiences and opportunities to learn life skills and build community. She uses expressive arts to develop “adulting” workshops. She’s a true people person and always happy to discover anything and everything while sharing a meal. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

“First impressions are the points of no return” - I struggle with this statement. I absolutely agree with the fact that we need to STOP and “adjust” the initial impression as it might be completely wrong, even hurtful. However, there is definitely a return from it, we just need an open mind and, as you say, not act right away on the initial judgement.

This is superb. I'm here better late than never. I'll take all of this on board. Also seriously, the comedy clubs will be all the better, when reopened, for this young ladies wit, timing, and delivery. Very good, and alas I do need to keep reminding myself of the fundamentals.

In 1992, I shaved half of my face as a fashion statement so to speak and I wore that look for several months. The reason for this was trifold. First, it was my sociological experiment...Do people really look at you and fully notice or take you wholly in ? Secondly, it often provided entre into an informative exchange with those that did notice and further acknowledged the difference and thirdly, was meant to be a personal statement of my opinion as to the schizophrenic state of politrips at that time. If you will recall, Perot was in then he was out then he was in again...blah blah blah !!!

Stop, see the other person. The world doesn’t need an apology, it needs more respect. Every person deserves respect, all it takes is 5 seconds!

I don't think so. All these psychopats sociopaths, narcissists....don't deserve respect. 5 seconds judgment is wrong. Person need more then 5 second make a judgment, without need, to apologies later.
