There is a trend in the league where the game is promoting players for their size, speed, and athleticism. The issue is that a lot of the guys gifted with these natural abilities are coming to the league because they’re naturally gifted, not because they care about basketball or being good at it. They just want to have the base level of skill to make a lot of money. If you look around the league, the players with these types of issues tend to be bigs or guys over 6’6. Guys who are below 6’6 have a much bigger talent pool to compete with since there are more people in the world that are around 6’0 than guys over 6’6. They have to be dogs and have to love the game to make it. BUT with the league trending bigger, faster, and more athletic, these guys that care about the game and max out their talent can’t make the NBA. They have to be long and athletic enough to defend these bigger players that just want that paycheck. These critics commenting about Jalen Brunson for his size shows how elitist and unaware of actual skill in basketball these critics are. As long as we keep trending towards physical ability in basketball versus skill, the more players will have attitudes and the more basketball will devolve.

Well said
@doronrosstuvia3489
@doronrosstuvia3489 4 ай бұрын
I can understand the height getting smaller overall because the power forward position is essentially phased out. In order for players to use their athletic gifts and length, they need to be able to run and a lot of larger players can’t run so the power forward nowadays are essentially wings. In the last couple of years we’ve seen bigger guys coming into the league running a lot more fluidly. I do think we will be seeing more and more players that are able to run at bigger sizes and it will bring bigger players into the game again relatively soon. Shorter guys have mostly been phased out. It’s so rare to see successful players at 6 feet and below unless they have ridiculous length and athleticism. But their careers have also been getting cut a lot shorter. Once someone around 6 feet is injured badly their career is over because they have shorter legs and need full mobility to play against giants. It’s also rare for someone that size to start or even become a back up. They’re often third strings that overperform on offense when they’re called up, then they go the way of Yogi Ferrell as third strings that get phased out relatively quick. @@loudimes5502

As a resident of Portland, the city doesn’t prep or do anything when it snows here. This year we got freezing rain which turned into sheets of ice. Many places in the city are very hilly so it would make sense that he wouldn’t be able to travel. However, being an NBA player I would assume he had ample funds or ways of managing this.

Probably didn’t have studs. Maybe he has or doesn’t have an AWD vehicle as well. Idk. I’m positive he doesn’t have the experience of driving on it though. You need an AWD with studs to have a chance of traction on that ice. I have a WRX with a set of studs I put on when I go snowboarding at Mt. Hood. I live in the Portland area. We get ice storms periodically. Usually when it snows, there’s freezing rain to go with it. On top of that snow. This past snow/ice storm was a bad one. The snow wasn’t the issue. The ice was one of the worse I’ve seen in my 37 years. A lot of trees fell on homes during it. There was some loss of life this storm. Portland is filled with hills. I promise he probably couldn’t get to the stadium that day because of how bad the ice storm was. There are hills leaving the Lake O area where he probably lives. Like most the Blazers. If you’re not used to driving in it on top of not having studs and a good vehicle then you’re most likely going to wreck.

Our winters are brutal and there’s multiple times a winter that you can’t drive at all because of 3 things regular ice on the road, snow on the road, and the worst of all and most dangerous/scary of all black ice because it blends into the road and absolutely sends your booty flying 10 feet the other way 😭😭 didn’t know Portland had it that bad as well but makes sense since it’s very a Northern city.

As a suns fan …no lol he is what he is. Can’t teach hustle. I would disagree he’s an overall bust because he can be productive but in the sense of a bust as a pure number 1 pick? Yea he not a top dog as usual number 1 picks are

Mike, you have the benefits of living in Cali and don’t have any ideas of what the winter weather will bring. Last month, the same winter storm system that hit Portland up when across the southeast US where I reside. The snow and ice were big factors. Most people were stuck inside of their homes for a week. Not much was going on except emergency services and few grocery stores were open. The big issues at play is that small market cities like Portland tend not to be as progressive as far as being reactive to winter weather events. Especially when they don’t deal with them as consistently during the winter months.

live in new england and icy roads are no joke. especially since from what ive read in the comments, portland didn't pretreat the roads well at all. given his wealth there probably was a way for him to get to the arena but more than once have i been stuck at home because the road was a sheet of ice

i live in portland and it was brutal. we dont have the infrastructure to handle an ice storm. all of our business were closed, lots of us had no power. couldnt budge the car because it was glued to the cement w ice. ya hes a nba player and should have been there, but i lived through that storm and i get it. my wife fell down our steps and broke her arm and had to go to the ER.
