“Fun” fact: sometimes women and children’s protective services use hotels and motels to provide a temporary place for abused wives and their kids to stay while they work out a separation/divorce. Sometimes, the husbands will follow their wives and children to said hotels and motels and try to figure out what room they’re in. So yea, it’s a safety thing. And even if it’s not women and children you’re dealing with, everyone deserves the same level of safety and privacy.

Ya one time a family member was told what room I was in because we had the same last name. I was staying with other people. Just because they are family doesn't mean it is safe, and I was rooming with minors (I was freshly 18 at the time and it was a choir trip). I was so angry. Especially because I didn't want anything to do with my extended family that weekend. I never reported it because I was young but now I would. They put 17 year olds in danger by giving away information

You can’t convince me that she’s so used to the whole proses but hasn’t done it enough times to actually cause a bad person to hurt someone. I think someone got badly hurt because of this girl. I have had new coworkers like this at my job as well. In fact, I have one right now. It's frustrating when newbies get an attitude towards a seasoned veteran employee who's only trying to be helpful. Even worse when the newbie thinks he or she can order the seasoned veterans around.

A night staff member saw we had left it out and told one of our seniors about it, they didn't move it themselves which would've literally taken 5 seconds to do, they told on us and made us move it, not even bother to talk to us face to face. Did I refuse to move it and say they should've? No, I just moved it myself then went to my coworker to bitch about it. Yep!!! I’m the GM. And a new GSR was hired by my corporate manager. And he hired and trained her while I was out of town and he was covering my property. She came In behind the desk and l was walking out of MY OFFICE. And she looked at me before I had a chance to introduce myself to her. And she said EXCUSE ME!!! But what do you think you were doing in the GM’s office??? I’m going to call him to tell him some rando was in HIS OFFICE. And as she said HIS OFFICE my Assistant Manager came walking around the corner to help her get signed into the system. And she was like whoa!!! And the Assistant said This is YOUR GM Mary. Scott is the Corporate Area Manager. And the newbie said you weren’t wearing a name tag how am I supposed to know your somebody. And I told her. I told her that she didn’t even give me a chance to introduce myself before you started trashing me. I stopped what I was doing and opened my office door and called Scott to tell him about the girl he hired. He told me that the 2 days he was training her. She was to interested in talking about her cat and favorite tv show. Then she was in figuring out the job. And he just laughed and apologized for the new hire and he told me it was up to me if we keep her working or we let her go during her 90 days trial period. So far she’s been employed 8 days. After I got off the phone with Scott. I told Lauren my Assistant to show her the chores list and what I expect her to do during her shift. And that I’m not a super hard on Manager. If you’re busy and checking in lots of guests I know that doesn’t allow for a lot of extra time for chores. But if you aren’t checking guests in. I expect you to do the chores list. I also understand some days you don’t feel like doing everything on the list even if you aren’t busy with guests. But at least do the things like sweeping and mopping the floor the floor at the start and end of your shift. I expect you to use window cleaner and get all the finger prints off the glass doors. Before 10pm I expect you to have the lobby looking nice and tidy. Edit:Amendment since I wrote this. I had to tell the new hire she was no longer needed. I live on property. And I go up periodically through out the night. Just to check up on the staff to make sure they are ok and to make sure they are up and awake during the overnight hours and to walk the halls to make sure everything is good. No loud music blaring after 10 pm. No homeless people in my stairwells or on the lounge chairs in the indoor pool area or hiding out in the public restrooms. Well I had called the desk to no answer so I come down to check and make sure she was ok. Well she was sitting in her car. And I had to tell her the cordless phone doesn’t reach out that far. If she wants to smoke she must do it either out the front close by the front or out close to the back door. Otherwise the phone won’t ring and it’s pointless to have the phone. She apologized and said she didn’t know and I told her that was fine but just remember it. Because we can’t sell a room if people don’t realize we have rooms available. So I went to bed and something woke me up out of a dead sleep at about 4 am. And it made me go up front. So I slipped on a bra and a pair of jeans and a top. And I grabbed my keys and went up to check on the front of the house. My overnight guy had his back to the lobby and I noticed the lounge area in the public bathroom light was on. Which meant someone was in there. As I looked through the full length window I could see the bathroom light wasn’t on just the lounge and the swinging door was latched shut. So I walked up to the door and said in my best disguised voice. While recording with my phone Hey is anyone in there I really need to pee. And I heard new hires voice say occupied. So I said again I really need to pee. And new hire says god I’m busy can’t you piss out in the hedge. And I said Nooooo please let me in I need to go Do I need to get the desk clerk to help me get in. New hire said Jesus Christ and came over to the door. And as she opened the door she said (I wish this was exaggerated) hurry the f*** up. She was giving oral sex on the chair in the lounge that separates the men’s and women’s sides of the bathroom. Her shirt was wide open and the men was sitting on the chair with his pants down around his one ankle with the other leg out. I looked at her and just pointed to the office area and I told the man to get dressed and get out of my hotel and he better not come back. She walked out and to my office door. I as he ran out of the hotel I went and opened my door and at that point my over night guy came in and asked what was happening. I told him to stand and watch for guest and if he sees someone heading to the desk to ring the doorbell. I told miss new hire that she was done and that she needs to return the 3 uniform shirts her name tag and the 2 iron on patches for the extra shirts she was going to buy herself and she won’t get her last paycheck until all 6 items are returned to me and the shirts are washed and ready to be used by the next new hire. She tried begging me to let her keep her job. I sent the tape to Scott and to the Corporate office for proof of why she was fired and why she was put on the not eligible for rehire list. And if a manager hires her they also can be terminated for not following the company guidelines. And I’m back to working double shifts until I can find a replacement. Or I can put my part time 3-11 person as full time if she wants it.

When your coworker pulls you to the side for some advice, they’re usually doing it to give you the opportunity to self correct before management notices. It’s the right thing to do, plus it saves management from having to step in over an issue that’s easily resolved. If they were attacking you, they would be barking orders or telling the manager immediately, probably behind your back. The type of coworker shown here is the kind you want on your team.

Some people will 100% not listen to training and that often puts people at risk. I had an idiot (yes, an idiot you will see why) back when I worked at an icecream parlor. She would use vanilla icecream for all of her milkshakes instead of the flavorless base that we are trained to use. The flavorless base is just a sweat cream ice cream with no flavorings so it can be used with lowered risk of setting off allergies. Well, she decided that vanilla was better and defaulted to it for all shakes, which costed the company even more money. One day I have a regular come in, a nice elderly man who has a speech problem, he is super allergic to vanilla. He said so to her but she went about making her shakes how SHE wanted to make them. I had to stop her when the customer became panicked and reminded her that she shouldn't use the vanilla for shakes. She tried to fight me but another customer got LOUD with her about it. Apparently the other customer's child has an allergy as well and she heard everything. Got the manager involved and ripped the idiot a new one while I remade the shake for the original customer.

I don't let people say it out loud anymore because a guy showed up at my door to ask me out when I was traveling alone. When I asked how he knew which room was mine he told me overheard it at the desk. Luckily, I was able to have my room moved. Though, front staff told me he got kicked out later because he showed up at my original room drunk at 1am. Which was great because I was there for the week and I was worried about running into him.

@@welza001 Don't open the door and call the desk. And if he was willing to smash into your room, then he was just as willing to FOLLOW YOU from the lobby and get your room number that way. I've worked in hotels for twenty years, and while this is technically a "thing," most hotels do not make it procedure because it's kind of pointless and is more of a "comfort for the guest" thing than anything practical.

Any decent hotel has the signs in the hallway that tell you which direction to go to the rooms, so no need for that. When I stayed at a big Disney resort with a ton of different buildings one time, they didn't say my room number, but did slap a map on the counter, gestured (any international hotel brand will tell their people to never point with one finger, it's rude in some cultures!) to the door I would walk out of, and then drew on the map how I would get to my building. Totally private and I had no trouble finding it!

Other reason is that people keep their hotel key cards and pool bands. What if someone is listening in who isn’t staying there to use the facilities. If confronted they have a pool band, hotel key, and know a room number of a guest., as well as possibly a last name if the clerk addressed them as Mr or miss so and so. All they have to do is go to the front desk and ask for a new key. Unfortunately a lot of the hotels I have stayed at will give you a new key with just the room number/last name. Not to mention some of the hotels do the same for ordering to the room

My hotel made it mandatory to confirm certain information like the date of birth, last 4 digits of the ID or passport number, etc and most of the time those people just walk right out. We do the same if they call on a private phone just to be on the safe side and I've had my fair share of guests screaming bloody murder on the other end for demanding to know their private info before assisting anyone to their rooms(lift requires a keycard and I don't want to be responsible if something bad happens)

It’s crazy that she thinks that just because you “need the key card” that it’s still not dangerous for them to know your room number. For starters hotel staff have used their key cards to break into the rooms of women traveling alone. If you don’t say the room number out loud, then they have to actually go into the system to find the room number which increases the likelihood they’ll be caught before they break into the room since the system will be alerted that someone is looking up room information that doesn’t need to be. Or, some random person might just stand outside the door, waiting for them to come or go. Also, you can break into a hotel rooms without the key card pretty easily actually. There are like 1 million videos online of people breaking into rooms it’s not that hard to do if your motivated

It always gets me that the new hire will confidently say they "know" what they're doing when a veteran worker tries to help them out and give pointers on how it should be done so they don't get in trouble. THEN when the new hire botches it, they get in trouble and huff and pout about how "Nobody ever told me!" or "I've literally never had to do that before anywhere else!" I get new hires that are exactly like this and puff out their chests with a "I know what I'm doing!" Then make an absolute mess of it and when I just stare at them they immediately get defensive with a "Nobody told me what to do!" Boo, you've probably been told multiple times and didn't want to hear it because I know, factually, I have told you exactly, in detail on how this has to be done. 😑😑

I was at the Hilton this summer when I watched a car engulfed in flames in the parking lot. The hotel was booked and the parking lot was filled to capacity. It took two fire engines to put out the fire. The women who owned the vehicle was in the lobby. She asked everyone who was outside walking their dog or smoking if they witnessed anyone near her vehicle. She said "I know who did this!" She needed a witness or surveillance. I don't know if the bomb was timed or God sent an angel to protect her. Sometimes I think about her and say a prayer. 🙏 Tip women and men can be traveling alone visiting family, friends or business. However they can be traveling alone because they're victims of an abusive relationship. Always book the safest hotel you can afford. Check reviews and location. Listen to your gut. Stay safe everyone.❤

One night, after a couple of beers and out nightly pool game, I went to my room alone. Two men got in the elevator with me and tried to be friendly. I got off at my floor, and before I knew it, they pushed into my room. I took care of them; one wound up with a black eye 😁but from then on, I never took a room near an elevator or stairwell, and always traveled with some one to my room. It doesn’t matter if you are a guy or girl, please, please use situational awareness and if you are uncomfortable going to your room alone, security will be happy to escort you.

If no, then ask the customer to write down their current address, type it in, and give them back the piece of paper they wrote it on after you enter it! I can't remember what agency did that (it was years ago when I had moved but didn't own a car, so didn't want to go through the hassle of changing my license address), but I told the agent that was a smart way to do it and she said something like "our customer's security is our first priority!"

The crazy thing is, even if you ignore the safety issue, you can't trust guests to remember the room number. I can't begin to count the number of times I told the guest a piece of information, like that the key that I just handed them will let them in the door that they could not get in until they picked up the phone & told me who they are, or where the elevator is, only to have them turn, take 1 step & then turn back to ask me that. Nor can I count the number of times I've had guests checking out tell me the wrong room number, some even arguing with me. Dude, you just spent a week here, you should have noticed your room was 2XX on the 2nd floor and that we don't have a room 5XX since we don't even have a 4th flr, nvm a 5th one. I also have had guests disturb other guests by trying to get into the wrong room. (Not that they succeeded, just calls of "hey, someone is trying to get into my room" followed by the forgetful guest complaining that their key isn't working.)
