My dad was a general contractor and I am a real estate investor who does a lot of my own work. I lost my dad almost 2 years ago and Paul has many of the same mannerisms and the same perfectionist streak my dad had. Every time I watch your videos I can't help but think about my dad. The craziest roofing job I've seen done was when I remodeled a mansion in Maine. I hired a local company and 10 guys showed up at 7am with a 24' enclosed utility trailer with exterior boxes where they all pulled out a box with a belt, hose, bar, and nailer. They also had a dump trailer and two Equipter 4000 roofing trailers. The roofing dump trailers are unhooked and remote controlled around the house with scissor lifts that lift the dump body to roof level so they could strip the roof right into the trailers without any shingles hitting the ground. 4 more guys showed up around 11 just to lay shingles. These guys stripped and laid 30 sq in 6 hours and were on their way to do 40 sq of metal before they went home. I wouldn't believe it if I didn't see it. That black drip edge is such a great way to add detail for next to no money. Been pushing it for 5+ years now. Those shingles look really nice too. They must have been in heaven with no hips, valleys, skylights, ridge vents, and a single roof penetration lol. Looking forward to the next one!

Guys, of all the dozens of vour videos I've watched on my smart TV, this one had me in tears! and I just had to break out my laptop and post this comment. Not only is the roof really, really beautiful, but the filming itself and the editing are both just beyond great - wow factor work. Congratulations! I'm probably not the only 76 year-old widow lady who is an avid fan, but even so it might seem a little strange fare for an old lady's favorite relaxing entertainment. What could be better than watching men work? Nah, it's not that (well, maybe a little) - my father was a master cabinet maker, and all around Mr. Fixit in our home. And I always found something to make out of his scraps. Oh the smell of fresh sawn wood! In his early days he was a part-time lumberjack along the Oregon Coast, and we would go with him camping out in the woods. My Mom accidently walked out of the second story window of an old barn we found to camp in once, thinking she was on her way to the outhouse - she wasn't hurt, thank God. KZfaq is my favorite go-to for relaxation, and if I see a new video from you it's the first thing I watch. I admit I have to pray for you all often, and thank God He has kept you fairly safe so far. Please keep up the good "safety first" work ethic. Praying before you begin a day's work is the best way to start your day. It's going to take some real ingenuity and creativity to keep up the excitement when you build the house compared to this monster garage/apartment. Makes me so tired just remembering all that stinking mud! And because I live here in Hawaii on the Big Island, I was thrilled to watch your bathroom remodel on Kauai. Personally I am certain I could never live through any sort of remodel - the details, the roadblocks, the material limitations, not to mention the permits, the inspectors, the cost and the mess would send me to my grave. And I don't think I could ever be so lucky as to find anyone with a more dedicated eye to proper detail than you. If you've ever had 2 layers of 60 year old shingles on your garage that were falling to pieces then you'll realize how exciting a new roof can be. Yours looks absolutely amazing. Love to see these pros work.

As a European used to brick walls, clay roof tiles... I usually laugh at the typical construction grade US "sticks and cardboard" home, but I gotta say, this build looks SOLID and those shingles you got there are no exception.

Nice looking roof. I don't see this product cupping over time. The lack of sand on the product means NO sand in you gutters. Brilliant.

Wow, I would be really careful about this choice. Asphalt shingles (AS) have been refined over decades in the worst conditions to the point that manufacturers are offering a lifetime shingle warranty for residential applications. It is true that hail can damage asphalt shingles (AS), but it takes a major hail storm. I am a licensed General Contractor in Arizona 40 years ago, AS roofs would wear out in just 10 years, and a lot of Arizonans stopped purchasing them. To their credit, AS manufacturers improved their products and started providing warranties to back their shingle roofs. At first, these warranties weren't very good, but they have improved tremendously. Arizona just had over 30 days in a row with temperatures over 110 degrees - the heat is brutal. Today, you can buy AS roofs with a legitimate lifetime warranty. There are a lot of features I like about these shingles. They don't have surface grit; they are thick, which means that they should last a long time. I like that they bond to the roof and to each other strongly, really well. In many ways, they appear to be superior to AS. But the HUGE question is, will they last? Overall, I think it is a good decision to try this roof, provided it is not overly expensive. It looks like a good product. Hopefully they have fully tested it in hot climates.

Amazing looking roof and I like how the shadow of the tree is projected perfectly into the corner at 23:25. The roofing contractor was outstanding and really knew his stuff and the workers did an awesome job!

Great job! We’ve installed a ton of F-Wave roofing in & around Austin over the last 3 years. We love it, our homeowners love it, & yes, we’ve had a few tested recently with severe hail up to 3” & they don’t need to be replaced!

The shingles look great and I do love the aspects of them. The rake edge at the peak has a gap in the metal at the ridge @ 11:10 & the front overhang has a pronounced wave in the shingles @ 13:49. A 2nd overhang wave is @ 19:44. The first item I pointed out is on the roofers, but the second two are on yall for adding the overhangs later. Extending roof sheathing then adding overhang ladders would eliminate this, but the strongest overhang is a drop truss at each gable, and extending the ladders into the roof to the next truss. Not even corbels will solve this wave now. I have exposed beaded stock overhangs of 20" with a 5/4" x 10" rake facia and the beaded stock is 51" and goes back to the center of the 3rd rafter 16" OC. My corbels are 4"x4". All exterior is 100% cedar.

I’m not usually a fan of synthetic products . Plus I’m a metal roof guy . But I have to admit they look great !! They also look very high quality. If they really can handle hail then asphalt shingles should be a thing if the past

Trust me, you want to add a backing board for the TV. You don't want to limit your options on mounts. I work in home theater installation and have ran into way too many brand new homes that we ended up having to mount to a center stud and toggle the edges. Just do it and save the hassle. Now, don't forget to add two brush plates/boxes with a larger conduit to pass your HDMI cables from your tv down to whatever entertainment center you choose. This will really give a minimal look and also once again save tons of headaches. You don't want cables hanging everywhere and running cables through insulation is no fun. I would be glad to answer any questions on the AV side [Speakers, Wiring, ECT]. Sonos has some great simple whole home audio products that would really make this space pop. P.S. I would lower the TV box down around a foot or two. You want your livingroom tv to be centered at eye level. On the other hand this can conflict with furniture, so you have may have to mount it higher than what is considered "ideal". At the end of the day its your space so don't get discouraged by the "TV TOO HIGH" crowd.

The quality you guys are achieving here is top tier. My hometown is now filled with $2million+ homes and this already has the same curb presence as those. Strong, well designed, quality materials.

Your work is truly impressive. Here in Australia building is so very different to what is seemingly the norm in the US. To us, a lot of what is done there would be considered overkill but for most of us, the climate is nowhere near as severe as it is there which obviously affects the way things are done. In our main cities it never snows and we certainly don't get the extreme hot weather that you seemed to get every day in the summer. We would regard 16'' centres for your framing as excessive and we have never heard of Zip sheeting to make buildings airtight. In fact, until not so long ago our regulations required all habital rooms to be provided with permanent fixed ventilation. Your electrical requirements are quite different also. Almost all housing is constructed with masonry (brick) cladding and timber cladding isn't used a great deal other than for spandrills and the like. I love your shingle roof but that's another thing we don't see here. Maybe concrete shingle tiles but that's hardly the same thing. Slate is used in tiny quantities but its cost rules it out for all but the most expensive builds. Having said that, I really like the way you do things over there and I'm more than a touch jealous of some of the materials you have available to you.

That T drip edge on the rakes really worries me. Rain will get blown against the T and flow under the shingles there, and get pulled out into the field, potentially finding places through your roof near nails or other penetrations. Typically the shingles are cut to overhang the drip edge by 1/4" or so, so there is not guaranteed spot where water will get under the shingles. If that T profile had a fold or ridge an inch or two in from the T part, to ensure that there is airspace under the shingle so the water runs down instead of horizontally, it might work ok. And I suppose if the shingles are designed to allow water to flow freely under the shingle it might be ok.

Ok i remember about a year ago when y'all went the Construction Expo and you mentioned that the viewers would be in for a surprise when you got started on Brad house. WELL SIR, YOU HAVE DEFINITELY NOT LET US DOWN, with that promise! And as someone who has been involved with the construction of houses, from the Dirt to Roof, I am always excited to see what NEW & NOVEL IDEA, and what new product line y'all are gonna showcase. Like so many other have said This is the You Tube version of THIS OLD HOUSE. And having done my share of roofing, I can truly see & appreciate this new roofing material. One other question not answered, but I suspect I am not the only one who has it. It looks as though installation costs are probably about the same as for asphalt. But what is the delta, if any in the material cost? The shingles look very similar to the Timberline I have on my house, and those are not inexpensive shingles, but at some point they will need to be replaced. Are the synthetics price competitive (material, I get that labor is labor). Thanks, and I always enjoy a new Stud Pack video.

I think it looks great, where would the rain water go on a windy day when it’s hitting against the T on the rakes? …usually shingles are overhung for that purpose. I’m sure this was tested, but just not explained more in depth.

At $20 a square foot, that is about three times the price of a traditional shingle roof!

I live in Los Angeles ca and it’s almost time for a new roof for me and I think I might look to see if this product is offered in our area no like the composite aspect and how it seals to each other.

Paul, love the videos, and your dedication to doing the job right the first…..a trait sorely missing in the building/remodeling business.. you may have already answered these questions…..absolutely love the roof; 1) what kind of durability can be expected from these shingles ie expected life span (warranty) 2) what about colorfastness ie will they maintain the same appearance throughout their life, or will they fade out; and is appearance warranted……3) obviously on everyone’s mind….cost, as compared to other alternatives….you guys are awesome, look forward each week to your videos!!!!

Is it just me or when they installed the drip edge at the peak there was no overlap? Which leaves a seam/gap at the very peak? Great video tho!! I love the new roof tech and you really found an installer that goes above and beyond!! timestamp 11:11 I know very little about roofs so I could be missing something.. nm ridge cap shingles. It was at the end :-) I have seen installers overlap the drip edge at the peak.

I'm glad you remembered about the vent pipe before the roof was put on. The roofers at our house actually covered over some stuff that wasn't supposed to be covered over because they forgot to cut out for it (or just didn't care). It was metal roof so hard to do anything about it now. I'm also glad to see an ad for help for mental health. So many people neglect mental health. I wish something like that had been available when I was younger and struggling with depression. Its great that Kelly was willing to talk on camera about the process, the product, etc. Makes it more interesting and educational at the same time. He's a good spokesperson for the company. I'm not a fan of shingles, but the synthetic ones seem pretty cool. Much better than the asphalt ones. The pivot boot thing is neat too. I'll have to remember that one for the future. The ladder lift thing is something that might be a good investment for the future. Something you can use on other projects-- as well as the house. Hey, one of the neighbors has a swimming pool! Does Jordan plan to add one too? LOL.

That drone footage is awesome you could even see that at 23;49 as the drone was flying over the ridge the last courses of shingles underneath the capping were not the same size.

I think it’s so funny that better roof products have to mimic tar shingles.

Duuuuuuuudes!! You didn’t have to penetrate the roof for that vent: you could’ve gone out the side with a very nice solar powered positive venting upon-demand vent cap. @17:03? You don’t want screws in the bottom part of that flashing because that’s a roofing penetration that’s going to leak. They could’ve done a better job shingling that pivot boat in to the shingle lines. Shingles “cover” nails for a reason.

That is an amazing roofing system! The warranty is fabulous and it should last a long time. Thanks for going outside the box on the roof!!

Gotta respect quality and knowledgeable laborers and contractors when you see their work. That’s an awesome looking roof. I’m an auto/truck mechanic and when I see quality, you have to acknowledge.

I've roofed several houses, helping my dad. Even roofed for work for a summer. I can only imagine how much this cost you guys. Used to do roofs bigger than that in a day with just my dad and I. And you have 8 guys counting the foreman and safety guy getting paid. Anyways it looks super nice. And I imagine the clean up as super easy.

Regarding DIY vs. hiring contractors. A lot of us found your channel showing us how to do small remodel jobs. Often, trying to hire someone to do those is cost-prohibitive: the base just to get someone to the door is more than it's worth. Once the job gets to be a certain size, or has hard time constraints, it can become cost-effective to hire it out. I think y'all are learning that lesson as you transition from DIY-scale remodels to full on building projects. Hopefully, we'll still get the occasional small-project to help us DIYers learn the right way! (Also, I bet you never hire anyone else to do tiling, your standards are so high and you can do it better than most other pros :) )
