​@@stevechance150how was it unnecessary? It was warranted although maybe a bit blunt. If nobody trusts her as a reporter when they're coming to her as a source she has no value. Again it was harsh for Charlie to say but Don backing her up doesn't absolve her of what she did. Nor does it mean that she didn't do anything too bad Even though what she did was right morally. Sloan was protecting people and letting them know the size and magnitude of the radiation levels. But again Don was not absolving her of her mistake he was letting Charlie know that it was a mistake, and to let somebody go with as much potential as Sloan would be a mistake of his own. But it was not by all means unwarranted or unnecessary. If you screw up at your job know employers required to give you a second chance but the ones that do that see your potential and value are the good ones.

She even starts to lie about the staff before Don calls her out on it!

Yeah in real life people don't turn down pay like that. In real life there are things like mortgages and daycare and car payments and credit card bills that need to be taken care of. Otherwise creditors ruin your life.

+Temiken She didn't hold her own. She kicked his ass. Sam Waterston's hammy overacting on this show was horrible, dishonest and hysterical. When Charlie Skinner dies in Season 3, I felt nothing. Olivia Munn was the one who held on to emotional honesty in this scene. She also showed the danger of the Sorkin style of crusadering: Just because you believe strongly doesn't mean you have the right to charge ahead, even if lives are at stake.

She was told something in confidence, and tried to get them to admit it in public (see earlier in the episode when she asks Will how to get interviewees respond to hard questions) Granted she made a mistake, but for what the character was to that newsroom, she deserved a bit more respect, even from her very angry boss.

Let's invade willy-nilly with no regard for consequences!" Trying to "save lives" this way often results in even more lives lost later.

The difference is that we have hindsight and KNOW that that is what will happen. They do not and have to go on the facts that they have on hand.

While the officials who were in charge cared mostly about "saving face" and not about the people who would likely be killed. Sloan has placed the much higher value of protecting human lives above the lower value of newsman etiquette. This is what makes her right.

I saw an interview where Jeff Daniels said that me memorized the open speech to the point that he can recite it backwards, really. That America isn't the greatest country in the world speech to Sorority Girl. :)

He was an a-hole in the first season though. Hated him initially.

@Bill Leslie The first and particularly the second season of 'Breaking Bad'. Different concept, yes, but execution of the arc and message is extraordinary. There is a recurring image throughout the second season that is 'explained' in the final moments of the last episode and its resonance is moving and horrifying. Reminds me of classical Greek tragedy.
