We see Neil the idealist a lot. But only in the last episode do we see Neil the badass.

@@omegacon4 The point Neil is making is that ACN Digital wasn't about giving the public what they wanted. They're not BuzzFeed or Twitter. They were the online platform for a serious news network, and it was up to them to treat it as such. Their articles shouldn't be clickbait lists, especially overused ones such as "10 most overrated movies of all time". They should be posting articles that were relevant to people's lives. By showing that they cared about stuff like whether a movie is overrated or if celebrities were at a bar at any given moment, they were saying they were not a website to be taken seriously, because they cared more about attention than putting out the truth, and more importantly the truth about things that are important.

No, it went off at the right time. Aaron Sorkin has said that, since West Wing, he will never do another TV show longer than 3 seasons. And rather than carry on Newsroom with a different lead writer and watching the quality drop, similar to what happened after Sorkin left West Wing, HBO decided to let the show go out on a high note.

It's hard for an apology to be sincere when you just stopped doing what you're apologizing for 10 seconds earlier. It's more respectful not to even try. Expressing his condolences about Charlie was a much better way of starting to make amends.

Wait, this is the same guy that was adamant about the existence of Bigfoot and was dead set on running a story about it. Pot meet kettle.
@MasterAndreRaven2 жыл бұрын
I think you might have missed the point. There is a massive difference between: - A journalist wanting to run a story about *the possibility* of a creature existing based on accounted sightings, traced folklore, and other related indications of existence -- evidence that could be further investigated upon and determined to be true or false based on gathered evidence -- and allow people to make their own decisions about the possibility of Bigfoot existing based on the journalistic evidence presented by running a story about it; and - A journalist deciding arbitrarily that certain films from a certain period of time in cinema history are overrated (intentionally dragging works of art for the drama that such a piece is bound to create). Neal wasn't upset that they were using the platform he created to talk about films. Neal was upset that they were using the platform he created just to pick apart something other people had made as a way of garnering attention, drama, and outrage. That's why he brought up the point about "why is overrated more fun than, say, underrated?" Neal is an optimist at heart (which is the entire reason behind why he's the one who always considers the possibility of Bigfoot, or aliens, or anything outside the box). He doesn't like the thought that these people -- using *his* platform, something he poured his heart and soul into -- are using it to tear something beautiful apart rather than acknowledging the beautiful things that are overlooked. If they had been making a list of underrated films, he would have supported it, because the wonderful thing about making a list of underrated things is that you can bring attention to things that have been overlooked; things that other people *should* see rather than dismissing offhand. Instead, these guys are sitting here, deciding what known films aren't worth watching because they've decided -- for whatever reason -- that they aren't worth investigating. That, in itself, encourages people to not pay attention. Which in turn is what kills journalism. Journalism wouldn't exist were it not for the desire to want to educate people about things that they otherwise wouldn't know existed. I hope that explains the difference between the two types of journalists shown here, and why they are about as far from the same as you can get when it comes to journalistic integrity.

Nope, not nearly preachy enough. Too often we use "let us have our fun, it's harmless" as an excuse for "I just want to be intellectually lazy, I'll just follow whatever's dragging us down to gutter level" and it should be said more without accusations of elitism.
