After a full year of camping with The North Face Stormbreak 2 tent, it's time to sum up my experience with it in an 'Optimistic Review' -- this 2-person tent is bomb-proof.
This video is NOT sponsored, I just like to accentuate the positive.

Loved your video. Thank you very much for sharing it. I'm thinking on buying this to the the "Choquequirao trail", it's a trekking route very similar to the Inka trail and it takes four days and three nights to get there, so camping is a must.

That sounds awesome! This tent is great, but definitely not the smallest or lightest out there for a multi night hike. Thanks for watching -- good luck with the Choquequirao Trail!! ✌️🤝🙏

Been using a stormbreak 2 for a couple years now, summer and winter. You’re not kidding about “bombproof”. I set it up in a field once with these chopped woody stalks pointing out of the ground (I couldn’t clear them out in time and had to just set up camp). I thought for sure it would tear up the bottom. When I got home after the trip I set the tent up in my back yard and hosed down the bottom expecting the inside to be soaked, but nope, not a single leak. Couldn’t believe I hadn’t ruined it. Love this tent.

Love to hear it. I've set mine up in some pretty precarious positions too -- it really is a durable tent. Thanks for sharing!

That looks like a serious bit of kit. Really like that they have colour coded the set up to make it simple. You are certainly in the right place to give it a good workout, so great to hear it has been BASED😁👍

Yessir! I had a one person tent that collapsed on me during an overnight snowfall, so this was the replacement -- worth every penny.

Looks like they're stocking 2 colour combos right now: - Asphalt Grey / Agave Green (like mine) - Pavement / Golden Oak (with an orange fly) It really is a solid tent. Thanks for tuning in!

I have the Stormbreak 3 that me and my boys use on the AT. We each carry a part. It’s sturdy and relatively cheap. Fairly heavy fabric that has held up really well. At 6 1/2 pounds thru hikers would not consider it. I just section hike a few days here and there and couldn’t justify a $600 tent that weighs 2 lbs.

Awesome, spot on use-case for the Stormbreak line of tents

Nice review! It helped me with my decision. I like the tent and am considering getting the Agave Green. What effect does the green (yellow) mesh have with the view out the tent, especially at night?
@radarbase
@radarbase 7 ай бұрын
Visibility is comparable to a standard black mesh in the daytime. At night it all comes down to where the light source is strongest. The yellow does reflect light, so a light source inside will obscure the view out, and brighten the space more than a tent with black mesh. Very cozy feeling, but I'll admit it's not the greatest design for stargazing from inside. Cheers mate, hope you're happy with whatever you decide on 🍻

@@radarbase Thanks! I was wondering about its effect on stargazing but the fly will be on most of the time anyway. I do prefer the subdued color of the fly on this particular model. Already on order. Thanks again.

Great Video! I have the same tent but was wondering if the volt/yellow mesh get too bright when the sun comes out when inside?
@radarbase
@radarbase Ай бұрын
When open to the sun, the yellow mesh is pleasantly bright -- for me at least. It livens up an overcast or rainy day too. YMMV of course ✌️

What about ventilation? Maybe I missed something but couldn’t see any vents on the rainfly.
@radarbase
@radarbase 6 ай бұрын
Ventilation hasn't been an issue for me: There are no vents / ports on the head or foot of the tent fly, but the doors on either side each have two massive double-zip flaps, and there's a truckload of tie off points. Regardless of conditions (hot, cold, high wind, sideways rain and drizzle, etc -- newfoundland weather, ya know) I've been able to keep dry with whatever level of crossdraft or open air exposure I'd like. Of course, your mileage and preferences may vary. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching 🍻
@leifandersson8754
@leifandersson8754 6 ай бұрын
@@radarbase Thanks, only got tents with vents on the rainfly since before. But guess that if you got enough space between it and the inner while rainfly doesn’t pitch close to the ground it should be OK.

@@radarbase ok thanks also can you send me a list of stuff you prefer and what I should pack for a 6 mile trip because I am going on my first backpacking trip. Thanks!
@radarbase
@radarbase 3 ай бұрын
@@fletcherbenson6428 Six miles is a good start! What to pack depends on the conditions where you're going and your budget, so I won't recommend anything specific. At a minimum, make sure you're covered for shelter, water, food, light, and fire starting (where legal). The distance is reasonable, so it would be wise to over-pack and develop your sense for what you need and what you don't. Most importantly -- GOOD LUCK & HAVE FUN! Let me know how it goes 😄
