Unfortunately, those data broker deleting services make the situation worse. I know someone who landed on there list of brokers by accident. They did send him huge amounts of data, all with ID copies. And requested him to delete data regarding those people. This requires the brokers to not be malicious. And who's going to do anything about it? You? No disrespect, but the entire world relies on those companies you just named, and many, many more, both American based and foreign. I'll be the first to admit that I couldn't operate without the convenience of many of the top 10 global tech companies. We have all been suckered in to a world of convenience and we are all now slaves to technology. It's a sad, sad picture, one which I don' think many of us saw, but there it is.

@@NichiriCoYep, there is not a lot that can be done at this point. And we are moving to techno feudalism, where everything is a rental. For a start we could make it illegal for the US government to purchase and intercept metadata without do process. And in our personal lives avoid providing as much information to these tech companies. But for the most part, I doubt that any real change will happen until some dictator demonstrates how dangerous this is on a mass scale.

For the NSA thingy, I'd argue that the issue is how data brokage can even legally exist in the first place. Such business is beyond anti-consumer and should have been banned ages ago. And if private companies could simply buy stuff, I don't get it why NSA can't. Private data buyers are far worse than NSA anyway. The M$ hack is why I had always chose Google when I could. M$ only cares about exploiting people into paying them more in either money or advertisement data. M$ boasting about security by turning Minecraft Java into an OAuth app that gets compromised even more easily says it all. And yeah the recent aggresively atrocious push of Edge too. At least Google cares about security a lot more than M$. And 2 PB (if the number isn't bloated) of meteorological data is worth literally nothing. The data on those supercomputers are probably some research model outputs at best. Most likely they are some operational weather model outputs and have almost no value at all. Though it's still nice to see invaders get stabbed in the back lol.
@yeetyeet7070

only reason it exists is because people don't understand how much of a security threat data brokers are. They get every phrase you google, every social media profile you visit, every sentence you google-translate, every word you enter into any website, all the url parameters, etc., even passwords. It's like a keylogger because that is actually what it is.

Got news for you, it's not illegal. People are so hyper when it comes to the NSA that they automatically think everything they do is illegal, but it's pretty clear here that NSA is taking advantage of a legal process to acquire this data. Also, NSA is not law enforcement, but the military, so they aren't really restricted by those rules on a normal basis. Consider this like going through the trash, The Supreme Court president already states that if you through it out and its used in a case against you because the law went through your trash cans, they did not need a warrant to do so, and since this is an open sale to anyone (which I would assume is the bigger issue here) the NSA, CIA, Russians, North Koreans, your grandma can all buy that data for whatever purpose. Not to mention, there is also president that, if you do it out in the open, its not considered private, and it is firmly established that you have minimal right to privacy on a public internet network. That's why companies can sell you data like this.

@@SeytonicLet's get the "u" out of "body odor," ok? 😉🙄✌️

@@gus473You're definately in the minority opinion there... according to one reference site (TY won't let me pass on a link, but Google 'odor vs odour' and you'll probably find it), in India there is a 62% preference to keeping the 'u'. That's 62% of 1,350,000,000 people, so about _837 million_ people would say you Yanks are wrong.

Why should they buy if they can grab it? I think it is just a lie to belittle their crime.
