How does the now 8 year old Titan X hold up in 2023? Is the 12GB of memory worth it? Is the fully Unlocked GM200 chip powerful? All that and more shall be answered! It's crazy because this card came out when I was in middle school, and it wasn't even my dream card because it was so expensive!
Test System Specs:
- Intel Core i7-11700k
- ASUS ROG Strix Z590-e Gaming WiFi
- 64GB 3200 MT/s Silicon Power DDR4
- GTX Titan X (Maxwell) Founders Edition

- Samsung 970 Evo 1TB PCIe 3.0 for OS/Boot
- 650W EVGA PSU
A GPU is a separate bank of ALUs and FPUs, designed to offload heavily parallelizable calculations from the main CPU onto a dedicated chip. The Graphics Card refers to the entire sub-system, containing the PCB, Memory, and Cooling solution.
Building a Budget PC can be tough. Not only are GPUs and CPUs so incredibly expensive, but they can be hard to find on a budget... But, there are tips and tricks to finding you your dream Budget GPU, and pairing it with a CPU that will give you the performance you want!
Also, if you're reading this far - I've got more content coming!

I like that you did low settings with ultra textures to show the absolute best performace you can get while still making using of the 12gb of vram.

I'm in the US - pre ordered my EVGA Superclocked GeForce GTX Titan X 1GB for around $1,200 (Not including taxes/shipping) - It's still custom water cooled, custom firmware, hardware power mod, and liquid metal thermal fluid - also scraped surfaces on processor and custom waterblock. Specs are similar to this video, but in most aspects add around 8-12% and that's mostly due to being able to keep the temperatures down. (External 1gallon tank, 800mm X 800mm radiator 8 200mm fans - 4 push / 4 pull - open air (not in a case) in a seperate room that is A/C cooled. Similar seperate setup for CPU which is still a Intel Core i7-5820K - No problems the last 9 or so years. There is a lot you can do with the GPU still today. June 20, 2024

Maxwell was pretty special back then. (Had the GTX 970) I usually stayed away from the blower style cards because of that heat limiting performance factor. Thanks for the excellent review Proceu Tech. I really enjoyed the informative video. I now have a good idea how the Titan X was and is today. Son's of the Forest looks interesting. Peace!

It's also the latest and greatest card that will properly output to VGA like for CRT monitors. (and has windows xp drivers with a little tinkering)

THIS. Can't believe Proceu didn't mention this. This card is for natively driving CRTs and/or Windows XP machines and is the most powerful card you can possibly get for those two purposes. It will absolutely slay every other card competing in those two areas. Getting this card for anything other than that though is going to be disappointing. The Titan X is definitely best treated as a beast-mode legacy card that can also handle some modern duties.

Yes, it is the best GPU ever... and my main PC is still Windows XP based with dual monitor setup: one 15 CRT and Asus 16" OLED.

During the GPU crash I managed to buy one for $200 to hold me over and I was shocked how well it did. The vram and bus width really helps it with modern games and texture packs. Mine was also a overclocking beast. Once the GPU crash was over and 40 series was announced I found a 3090 strix oc for $700 in perfect condition so I use that now but put the Titan X into an overpowered windows Xp/ win 7 dual boot x79 HEDT build

I still got this card in my PC. An overclocked model. Cleaned it, replaced the thermal paste. Still going strong in 1440p. Absolutely loved it when I bought it, still do. The 12 GB VRAM buffer remained unchallenged for quite a while. And it seems strange that many cards still don't have it. I had the original GTX Titan before it, gave it to my brother. Kind of wish I waited for the Pascal version a bit at the time. Was impatient. But all 3 are great cards.

As a user of this card (a 1st party nvidia maxwell) I'm actually surprised you had to go to such extremes to get it to perform as it is. I use the blower and only ever top around 75-80c at 1403mhz core/7950mhz mem. You may have gotten a lower binned chip in yours with a lower ASIC% perhaps.

Been running this card since I bought it in 2015, every year I say "I'm going to upgrade and build a new top-end PC" and every year I decide it's still keeping me going :) Gaming aside, if anything, it's the issues I'm getting with Photoshop not supporting such an old card that will finally push me to upgrade...

I had a Maxwell previously (GTX970) and i wouldn't keep them. One of the reasons is the Vulkan driver regression which affected i think Yuzu, Switch emulator. The regression affected Pascal and Maxwell and on Pascal it was fixed within a handful months, which is not great and is already a sign of neglect; but on Maxwell one and a half years later the regression is still there, emulator crashes. FSR2 upscaling is functional but degraded on Maxwell compared to newer GPUs, and there are performance bugs abound, especially in conjunction with DX12 Compute, as seen in performance of Cyberpunk. Maxwell is dying.

@@ProceuTech I am looking to upgrade my entire rig though - Right now it's so tough to figure out something even a little future-proof! I did start off with a AIO for just the CPU - Corsair H100i GTX 70.69 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler. What sucks is after this GPU came out - it felt like - within months of its release ... RTX and all this other stuff came out! "Fastest GPU in the world" was hard for me to force myself to get at the time! Oh and Lga2011-V3 Socket ... Talk about getting mad at everything that doesn't say V3 on it (and some that does!) for custom water blocks and water cooling in general! Anyways, this rig will probably turn into my media server for the house. I really don't like wifi when I have a 1GB internet speed... These so called "smart tv's" with wifi suck. But yet we see tons of people with fast internet but are bottlenecked to all hell and do not even realize it! So I'm going to get a heck of a lot more use out of this rig! $3,200 was well spent in my opinion - next comment will be my pc parts picker saved parts list link - not sure if it will show on this comment so yeah! Thanks for the reply! Maybe I gave you a few ideas for future videos!
