You should make an Office encyclopedia like they do for the Bible where you show every time a topic or word is used with references. You’re the only one qualified and we need it.

great video again!! not sure if you or any other fans knew what Michael was trying to say but it’s a funny palindrome “a man, a plan, a canal: Panama.“ I love how Andy is the one to correct him.

I’ve loved this episode for the soul fact that it shows the parallel between Jim and Michael. Jim thinks he knows best and what to do but completely botches it. Michael than again shows that experience rules over all and I believe this is shown throughout the time that Jim was co-branch manager. Just my opinion tho
@mechengr17312 жыл бұрын
Except, there was no right answer. Michael's ideas flopped too. They came up with merit increases together. It wasn't about the ideas, they just wanted to complain bc they didn't like the change. Jim was also the one who got blamed bc Dwight framed it like Jim was the reason for the change and that the blame laid with him alone. Jim, at least, was trying to be honest and up front.

Jim as a manager arc bugs me a bit with how it shows a bit of Jim’s most arrogant side, but this arc was a change of pace that the writers needed a new storyline & some of character development changes were nice to see. I love when Jim is humbled by some of his experiences when he’s a bit over his head, especially by Michael.

Great Breakdown by the way though!

It’s a storyline with good potential but is completely wasted because Jim hardly develops throughout the arc and there’s no payoff.

Ideally, Jim should have been moved out of that office. His ideas & concepts are sound, but they would never go over in that office without everyone hating him. Despite his solid sales record, they all still know him as the pranking guy that doesn't take anything seriously, but is now suddenly a manager over them. Michael obviously doesn't help matters, but Jim didn't learn his lesson from the birthday party issue and the time they had to work late, but got locked in. Also, you live within jogging distance of a place that sells pizza, ice cream AND doughnuts? How are you able to resist?

Honesty, giving raises only to the sales staff seems backwards to me; the non-sales staff should get the raises because they don't have the option of earning commissions.

It's odd that the beans idea is so ill-received given that it is a basic "shares" concept. Everyone gets 1 share, then sales gets a share, then seniority, then HR performance, etc. But what really bugs me is how they seemingly have no control over a trouble-making subordinate (Dwight). If I was Michael/Jim, I'd have removed all the beans from Dwight's plate for doing that and made him watch.

Something you seemed to miss about the cold opening, is that Dwight was being incredibly childish and disrespectful to Jim. He used please with Michael, but he demanded Jim to sign his expense report, he didn't even state what he wanted Jim to sign. It's also possible this isn't even the first interaction they had they had since Jim's promotion, with Dwight acting petty and jealous every time. I dont think Jim teasing Dwight was the right response, and if this were real life, Dwight would have probably been given a warning for behaving unprofessionally.

A bean is a representation of the amount of value an employee adds to the office. This merit based system was going to be used to justify raises for some employees and not others.

I hope your t-shirt slogan is referring to this new field guide style being just experimental and not permanent. You know I'm a huge fan of yours but I don't like this intro, the continuous music, the 'blah" graphics, etc... I think you are most excellent at how you chop and edit so many great scenes together. But this format just didn't seem as "fun" as your previous videos. If I'm being completely honest, it didn't seem as though you yourself even enjoyed it that much. "Niagara" is my favorite episode of the series and I've been so excited to see your field guide of it. So I hope next week is in the previous format that we've all come to love. You know I'll always watch you and you're still the best KZfaq channel THAT EVER EXISTED!! :) Also, you gotta give shout-outs to the weekly winners of trivia and easter eggs....we work hard for that recognition! :)

13:35 - To be fair, after Jim said he shouldn't prank Dwight anymore due to his Season 3 promotion, he ended up changing his mind that very episode. So he didn't really learn it at the time.

Looking at this in retrospect, it reminds me of Ed Truck's advice to Michael. Being the boss means people are going to dislike you when you have to make unpopular decisions. Sometimes the decisions are rational and correct, and sometimes they aren't, but regardless, people need the camaraderie of being unified by bitching about the boss. If you can't handle the complaints and general dislike, you can't be a boss.

The sudden existence of a second private office magically appearing, with no mention of it or its construction is something I have always hated. Really breaks the immersion. I actually hate that tiny glass room, by proxy. Any time it's featured in the show, it makes my skin crawl.

What always got me with this episode is that Jim and Michael way overthought the whole thing. Just spread the raises out among everyone. People would have understood getting smaller cost of living adjustments during an economic downturn. It was the playing favorites that they had a problem with.

@I Coroa I found it unrealistic in the sense that most small companies would not have two managers, didn't make sense from a dollars and cents point of view.
@nelsonmlazo44492 жыл бұрын
@I Coroa Season 6 was difficult as the highlight of the Season was Jim and Pam Wedding paying off all that anxiety from earlier seasons. I think that and Sabre Storyline saved the show as the rest sucked
@mechengr17312 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think on paper it probably sounded good. Michael excels at selling to big clients, and Jim usually helps to reign Michael in. But then you get Michael refusing to accept that he's not the only manager anymore and treating Jim like his assistant instead of his coworker. Also, I think it was bad timing for Jim given the state of the company. Lastly, maybe David was worried Michael wouldn't be able to handle the tough decisions well on his own

I always see you ask why everyone hates Pam and I'm just rewatching the last season since my first watch through and season 9 is why I hate pam in season 9 but I like her alot the rest of the show
