Its easy to "sell out" of a release if you do a small production run.
@user-ds8rj2vc4v7 ай бұрын
Yeah, I checked in the morning and it was sold out by like 10:10 3rd parties and like 10:30 in GW (model dependent). Big boxsets sold out straight away. As did things like books and dice. The pegasus banner bearer held out for an extra day, and Pegasus knights are still holding. This is with them all being old models. Imagine if they were all new models...

I watched the battle report last night and I had similar feelings about it. I've played WFB since 2000 and was kinda upset when in 2015 they killed the old world. Malus Darkblade was my favorite character and the end times novel was weak and the eventual conclusion was pathetic. Most of the end times books were shallow and glib endings to grandiose and beloved characters. I was angry at GW for destroying something precious to me Not just the game but the books. The rumors about "The Old World" being re-introduced have been promising and I hope it takes off. Im older now but I can still whip a newb with my Wood Elf army.
@jhminiatures78677 ай бұрын
Blade Dancer fan I take it 😉 honestly for the End Times I've enjoyed listening to the Garagehammer podcast from like, 11 years ago, when they read through all the books. Start at episode 105, where they go through the first 3 chapters of Nagash. Honestly it's a great listen.
@tillbrainman60497 ай бұрын
I read all the Nagash books and loved them. I play wood elves but, I also play vampire counts because of that second novel about Lahmia. Mike Lee and Dan Abnett are my favorite Black Library authors. Hence the devotion to Malus Darkblade. I am so glad to see a possible rebirth of WFB. It is truthfully an intellectual property GW would be and has been foolish to throw away. The success of the Total War video game proves that the fan base never went away. GW just stopped caring about the market base that has the disposable income to buy their games.

I remember playing Total War Warhammer 2 and me being a bit older and having more income got a big wave of nostalgia and went to go pick up a few models only to find that Age of Sigmar had taken its place and they blew it all up with the End Times. I was more than ready to drop some money but not on something that destroyed the thing I enjoyed.
@jhminiatures78677 ай бұрын
It's a cruel irony. Had Total Warhammer not done nearly as well as it did, especially with TW2, we might be living in a very different situation.
@user-ds8rj2vc4v7 ай бұрын
I remember always liking Warhammer but could never afford it until I was able to earn an income. Warhamemr 1/2 Total war triggered my interest again and yeah, the world was dead. Tried Age of Sigmar but I just didn't like it. It all felt too wrong and I didn't like the lore or most of the factions. As I like High Elves, Bretonnians and Lizardmen, two of them were completely destroyed and the third was some lame space dinosaur thing that just didn't feel right.
@EmperorSaistone7 ай бұрын
Really surprised, that apparently so many people come back to Warhammer, after the shit they pulled with nuking it in the first place.
@marcing16657 ай бұрын
AoS has nice models, but this is just big chaos to much high high fantasy, people want more simnple realistic take on fantasy like the old fantasy battles in a single world reminding ours etc. We all know that GW will sell on nostalgia old models, and knowing how HH works, those models will be replaced by new ones but not from AoS so we can buy 2 armies, but still I think its better to make one box for 2 systems to make money from fans of both worlds. Thats why making most factions legacy is a stupid thing especially that they have old models that can be sold and are still in use.
@Mark-nh2hs7 ай бұрын
I'm not too bothered about this as I can dust down all my old armies and use 4th or 5th edition rules and enjoy it. As nobody has ever said you cannot play the old rule sets 😂. I don't know how different the new rules are to say 6th Ed which was loved by many. I had left Warhammer the hobby at that time and came back in just as 8th was coming out. So I don't know what 6th and 7th rule set were like. Me I always loved 4th and 5th Ed 😊👍. Those magic cards still love them 😂
@EmperorSaistone7 ай бұрын
6th and 7th were the best imho. 6th really toned down the crazy stuff. 7th refined it and positioned itself between 5th and 6th with powerlevel...which wasnt bad until some Army Books were released that were far above others in powerlevel. After that balance was only a concept without house rules.

Sold out because games workshop uses professional marketing! It's not sold out! They create hype around this! if there were any number of them, then people wouldn't have bought, but waited for a lower price for the game, then GW doesn't make that much money!! This just marketing. How difficult is it to print figures in plastic? 1 day you learn to reprint millions of figures?
@CAMSLAYER137 ай бұрын
Gw are a bit dodgy but its pretty stupid to gamble on your product being a massive success if you don't have to, they've had boxes that haven't sold well before.
@monocerotis69177 ай бұрын
@@CAMSLAYER13 I think they will be able to raise the price even more, and blame it on being out of stock and people will be so desperate that people are willing to overpay for them. I saw the same phenomenon with Blizzard game World of warcraft when Tbc expansion was released in 2007. It was sold out everywhere and blizzard raise the price on battlenet for it, so players was forced to buy it.
@jhminiatures78677 ай бұрын
I don't blame them for under producing. The only problem comes in if they decide not to print any more after the initial wave, which would be madness considering how fast it sold. Money is on the table, what, they're Not gonna take it?

@jthiru31397 ай бұрын
Given it is under SDS it could be they weren't able to get sign off on a bigger run without showing hard data. They have sold out too early on a number of products on a number of occasions and I think it's either they estimate demand wrongly or have a preference to leave money on the table rather than have excess stock.
@horuslupercal99367 ай бұрын
I've never played Warhammer Fantasy but I was eager to get started today. Then I logged on and saw the rules were already sold out (typically under prepared GW?). So, I picked up the 2 army books for the meantime. I WILL not be paying $60 for 3 Bretonnian Knights. I can only hope they have all the Core Orc units in plastic. Or I'm probably out.
@jhminiatures78677 ай бұрын
I'd be staggered if the classic orc warriors didn't return, especially considering you can't get them for AoS anymore. Blorcs sure, but actual Orc boys from early 2005.

Except I buy nothing I do not wish to, and have made no attempt to contact, or be contacted by, games workshop. Sign of an actual fan 🤣 as opposed to a "career youtuber" I suppose.
@n3r0n37 ай бұрын
PS. why is it selling out now... because lord of the rings - apparently GW's biggest selling product (not in Europe I imagine I don't have a single LOR mini and I never saw anybody collecting them) - is over so they need another fantasy game to fill in. In fact the armies if u noticed do not overlap between AoS and Old World. Very lazy and disrespectful 3 years in the making repackaging in my opinion tho... I am truly disappointed.
@jhminiatures78677 ай бұрын
I mean, they do overlap. The empire technically features in AoS as "free guild", same as dwarves, high elves and wood elves. The difference however is in AoS they Aren't popular, so there's no friction having them stay in "the old world". Lizardmen, Dark Elves, Skaven and the Undead on the other hand? Yeah no they'd have problems. Interesting you say about LotRs. I've been seeing that a fair bit over the past few days, being replaced or dropped. But this, I feel, is a new thought.
@n3r0n37 ай бұрын
@@jhminiatures7867 in theory u are right the steam tank or the dwarves are currently in the cities book too (this overlapping only applies to cities of Sigmar tho and maybe to the goblins.. I do not have the good/evil faction tomes yet and the answer is there). But it has to be said that old world came out just as soon as the cities of Sigmar line had a full revamp (looking now like Bretonnia more than the renaissance troops of the empire) and I believe in the future the link will be severed once and for all. In general terms the direction is quite clear: some old world armies are gonna be AoS exclusive (lizardmen, undead etc etc) while wood and high elves, maybe forest goblins?... batsmen etc etc.. are gonna be Old World. Surprising not even chaos demons are in the old world... and 100% missed opportunity for the chaos dwarves. Again the orcs are now orruks and live in swamps (a swamp mobile kinda thing?) but originally orcs, demons and undead were umbrella armies that have been split later on so really anything is possible on that front.
@n3r0n37 ай бұрын
ps. concerning LotR, also this big alignment tomes... the - I imagine - almost made to order resin and metal models.. I sense some common ground in the marketing approach as well right? Plus this fills in the Tolkien spot of course.
@jhminiatures78677 ай бұрын
Again, I can't speak for LotR as I'm just not familiar with it. But to reinforce your points on the factions in the old world; I think they were limited in how far they could push the "Dual Use Kits" idea. It's worthy of its own video, but basically boils down to the fact that AoS inherited a lot of models that it didn't know what to do with, and combined with a history of faction releases that weren't terribly popular (fire dwarves / sea elves being prime examples) led to introducing kits with clear usability in a returned WHFB game. For example, the goblin wolf rider gang that was released for...warcry? Or whatever the AoS skirmish game is. They clearly are made to rank up nicely in a unit of 5-10. However they have to make hard choices. Yes they can bring back the Vampire Counts for the old world, and create all manner of silly names for copyright purposes. But how do you explain that to new players walking into a Warhammer store for the first time, and they see "Soul Blight gravelords, skeleton horde." And a box of "Vampire Counts, skeleton regiment." Next to each other, for two fantasy games that are Similar, but not the same. There is a similar issue between 40k and the Horus Heresy. Like how there are two Rhino kits, but both are functionally the same. A tank is one thing. A whole faction? And then multiple factions repeated? That's a big challenge.
@sjhhej7 ай бұрын
"these could be the same photos uploaded from 10 years ago". I mean why not, they're the same actual models from 20 years ago, reboxed and sold at modern prices. They're even selling some of the janky old metals that they found down the back of the warehouse. This is a minimum effort project from GW. If they were selling these models at the prices they were when the moulds were created 20 years ago I might be more interested. Basically if you have Warhammer 6th ed and some old stock GW figures you don't need to buy any of this Old World stuff.

A 20 box of skeleton warriors for I kid you not £15 when I was a kid. That my friend, is the dream.
@trueboneio7 ай бұрын
@jhminiatures7867 come on man, 15 quid in 1999 is 27 quid now due to inflation. GW price increases are *slightly* above inflation typically.
@jhminiatures78677 ай бұрын
@@trueboneioI disagree. Whilst adjusting for inflation is all well and good, the cost of basic house hold items like bread and milk haven't really shot up until recent years. £15 in 2012 I might add, which isn't a thousand years ago. I was alive then, I remember what my money was worth, hence the disagreement.
@trueboneio7 ай бұрын
Fair enough, I just picked my own childhood! If 20 skeletons were £15 in 2012 then I'd have to agree with you, actually :) It's a complex topic, because yes, a lot of the cost of living increases in the UK have been relatively recent and GW's price changes over the years are in little jumps. I'm really just trying to point out that if you take an equivalent kit from around the late 90s to early 2000s, they are typically roughly the same price now - with some exceptions like characters. What that comparison doesn't do, I agree, is account for changes in people's relative disposable income.@@jhminiatures7867
