Weird History

Күн бұрын

Humans have been around for around 350,000 years, but it has only been a short time since they began to group together in what we call civilizations. In all of our history on this planet, humans have only civilized themselves for approximately 10,000 years thanks to the development of agriculture, animal husbandry, and eventually writing. Of the thousands of civilizations that have existed, most have disappeared. Few have remained in the same place they originated such as the Chinese or Egyptians, while most have died out. Many ancient civilizations existed throughout human history, but some lasted longer than you might believe.

I find it so incredibly interesting that central and southern America had civilizations that left behind proof, yet the North American Natives did not. At least not with materials that lasted through the centuries. I would absolutely love to hear of the discovery of a pyramid in North America! I’m fascinated that North America seems to have been left alone for so many centuries!

Look up Cahokia State Historic Site in East St. Louis, IL, and Effigy Mounds National Monument in Iowa. Maybe not as Impressive as a pyramid, but equally as interesting. There are many more places in the U.S. that show glimpses into the histories of the indigenous people (what they left behind) such as archeological digs at Spanish Point in Osprey, FL. At Spanish point they have basically rooted through the settlement’s trash, (cause who doesn’t love an ancient dumpster dive) which is incredibly interesting because it tells the story of day to day life for normal people not just the great accomplishments. So history is here, just a little more subtle.

Hi! Greetings from Peru :) The ancient civilization you talk about is called Caral, not norte chico. Norte chico is in fact its location in relation to Lima, our capital city. We call the areas in the north and the south of Lima norte chico (short north) and sur chico (short south) because they are very close to our capital city. Caral was the first civilization developed in Peru, around 5000 years ago. They started working on geogliphes that we can see further developed in Nazca, they came up with a rudimentary "quipu" to keep track of information which evolved later in Inca times, and made niches used in constructions later in Tiahuanaco.

11:52 Not to mention that they get the chronology wrong. The oldest Maya site dates to only 1,000 B.C (Aguada Fénix). They also dated that they were the only “South American” civ to have a fully developed writing system……………………………………………NO WRITTEN LANGUAGE WAS EVER DEVELOPED IN SOUTH AMERICA!! The proper term would be Mesoamerica, which is indeed a part of North America. Plus, there were other mesoamerican writing systems, not just the Maya one. Writing systems such as: Olmec, Epiolmec (Isthmian), Zapotec, Teotihuacano (based on the glyphs found a la ventila), and Mexica. This channel is a joke!

I have been blessed enough in my life to have been able to visit the Pyramids in Egypt, Stonehenge, and Athens. All amazing places to go. With enough history to fill numerous visits. I had thought when I was younger that visiting Washington D.C. was great. And please don’t get me wrong, it very much was. But the Army also sent me to those other places as well. As our archeology improves with advances in technology we are finding more evidence that the first forms of civilization may have been around far longer than we previously thought. It's looking like small cities of several thousand people may have been common and remained stable as far back as 20,000 years ago, rather than the previous estimation of the advent of agriculture around 12,000 years ago. I'd like to see more videos on the subject since it is mostly confined to news briefs and scholastic journals. I think it would far better explain the "sudden" rise of full fledged culturally identifiable civilizations in Mesopotamia. It seems that such sophisticated forms of government would have more gradually evolved, allowing an "elite" class to increasingly take hold and then causing a sort of runaway profusion of kingdoms with a strong central government capable of organizing the resounces and large projects that we associate with the major civilizations. We know so little, but I'd like to know what little we do. It might be a bit more speculative than the usual videos, but no less intriguing.

"Elite" is by no means associated with or ubiquitous in agricultural development. Neither are hunter-gatherer societies absent permanent settlements during and after the mentioned millennia. A more disciplined effort at familiarization with archaeological ressearch will be necessary. Farmers, in fact, appear to have more consistently developed co-operative culture than hierarchical. Look to the research.

Love love love ancient history, the epic story of humanity in the soil of Earth. I try to always imagine what was it like then, the countless days that the Sun rose over lost temples, cities of people who have lived go without name or history now nearly forgotten. The dust of 10,000 centuries gathered in their belongings, left behind utterances we could not decipher and the laugther of children instantly vanished into obscurity. I also like to ruminate on what the senses were stimulated by; the aroma of many foods and the bounty of their lands, the plush hue of their clothes, glint of jewelry, and the sanguineous flush of their skin...I shed a tear for the amount geniuses we will never know, some lucky to have their names uttered thousands of years after they have left this realm. Thankful I am, no matter our current modern ills, to all that spoil, for which "those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it."

@@url241 I asked, because I literally found no sources supporting that informal gatherings starting in 1972 AC in the US, had anything to do with a Neolitic civilization that flourished around 7000 BC in what now is Türkiye. Even less when the purpose of Rainbow Gatherings is to get away from the constraints of modern organized civilization, whereas Çatalhöyük was one of the first successful attempts at creating organized civilizations - it lasted over two thousand years. Solid houses, with kitchens, storage and interior decoration, in a city with agriculture, cattle, pottery, dumpsters and cemeteries and religion. It didn't "go sideways," it was a fundament for all the following civilizations of the zone, culminating in the world urban civilization that allows you to have a discussion with me across continents on the subject of ancient cultures - starting with a video on a social media which we watched on cellphones or computers. No Rainbow Gathering has ever produced anything like that, neither has claimed any relation to any ancient *urban* settlement, nor any archeologist has ever compared Çatalhöyük to Rainbow Gatherings because their purposes and activities are essentially different. So, again, sources?

With new discoveries, we continue expanding how long ago in history that humanity has had several possible civilizations. Forgotten History: 1) Göbekli Tepe... 2) What is the true age of the Sphinx? Suggested research for Sphinx age, PhD. Robert Schoch and John Anthony West... Schoch and West created a lot of controversy regarding the age of the Sphinx. Lot of disagreement to the true age of the Sphinx...

That is true. Another thing is that the time of the creation of Göbekli Tepe is around the end of the Younger Dryas, which consisted of global warming that led to sea level rise. There could be even older civilizations that may have succumbed to the flooding. Atlantis could be one of them.

Gobleki Tepe wasn't a civilization. It may have been a minor a settlement where various people situationally lived over the centuries (the evidence is still out on that) but there is no signs of agriculture or large permanent populations. So, no, they aren't wrong.

Nice information, small correction required. Indus valley civilisation mentioned, timeline should be corrected. Aryabart civilisation what it's called Bharat, existed 10000 bce, Sanskrit language spoken that time. Sanskrit is the oldest language in the world, much before that sumaria, timeline not known, but existed before 10000 bce and continued till today.

Where is the mention on the civilization that built/erected what is known to be the oldest archaeological site to date, gobekli tepe, built 10 to 12,000 years BC!? We have lost prehistoric yet highly advanced civilizations that most likely existed long before what you note here as ancient. Things just keep trying older as more and more things are dug up
