www.myboxingcoach.com - Want to work out how to build aspects of the Oleksandr Usyk boxing style into your boxing training regime? In this boxing training video you will learn about 4 aspects of the Usyk style that you can apply in your boxing training.
The Usyk boxing style is build on the solid fundamentals. Sound footwork, good defences, controlled application of pressure and fantastic long range capabilities.
Usyk's footwork is favoured to mobility, on the balls of his feet and looking to make the most of his southpaw style by constantly forcing orthodox opponents to reset in the face of his constant re-positioning.
Usyk's guard remains high, especially his lead hand. This enables him to use reactive blocks to incoming punches. On top of this he applies really good pressure with an excellent jab and lots of feints.
Finally, Usyk is all about long range effectiveness. His best game is keeping opponents at range, using strong straight shots coupled with excellent movement and long range hooks to really break opponents down.
The Oleksandr Usyk boxing style can definitely give you some cool ideas to enrich your boxing training. It's all about mobility and punch selection. Enjoy!
Cheers
Fran

Thank you Coach! From watching Usyk vs Lomachenko - Usyk seems more economical with his energy. Both those guys are fortunate to have Papachenko as their coach.

@Michael Myers The main difference except their styles is that Usyk is willing to get hit but gets it back in the end. Lomachenko almost never gets hit. For me Lomachenko is the exception, but both of them are great.

Excellent as always Fran. For me he’s like a bigger version of Lomachenko. It makes sense considering how closely they train together but I truly think his performance against Joshua was underrated. As soon as I saw they stand face to face at the weigh in I saw the height difference wasn’t much and when I saw Usyk meet Fury in a post match quick photo I have the same feeling. I think Fury has his work cut out. I rarely say it but 50/50

Really good Analysis Fran ! I really enjoyed it ! One small observation thow: you said he dosen't fight in the Philly Shell, well he did fight in the Philly shell or at least defended in the Philly shell and fought with his lead hand down when he fought Dereck Chisora but I think he intentionally did that as to not show his best form, his best stance and technique as to fool Anthony Joshua to think that he is weak and then he proceded to beat Joshua twice 😊 I think he Orchestrated this from the beggining of the Chisora fight fighting in the Philly shell or at least leaving his his lead hand down and also not boxing to the best of his abilities with Chisora as to appear weak. Like Sun Tzu said: "When you are strong appear weak and when you are weak appear strong."

Can you move to the right of an orthodox fighter as an orthodox fighter? My cross feels weird when I am on the right of the opponent... Well I guess I generally fight orthodox so I am on their left. I feel this style works only for southpaws.
@sergefleurent7942

One important fact you missed here, is that Usyk is right handed. He had been trained the fencing stance, turning him into a south paw early in his amateur career. Same for Loma, whose father literally made those two exceptional fighters. Another important factor of their success is the very busy schedule they are subjected to. Fighting a lot of opponents, and repeating a lot of different training exercises, is making a boxer fighting relax and keep an excellent consciousness of everything happening in the ring.

He signs autographs with his left hand, probably making him left hand dominant. Look for that video. Loma on the other hand (no pun intended) writes with his right.

Having watched both these guys in action i was struck by their uncanny similarity in styles. Great styles and great fighters if they are facing lesser opposition, but against the top rung it can unravel as LOMO found out. With Usyk the style has just been ok against the Heavyweights he has fought, but against Fury with his height, weight, and reach advantage i feel it won't do the job. To run around and around and dart in for the odd jab will not work like it did against the others because Fury is as fast as him, and with the huge reach advantage it will be hard for Usyk to get close enough. Fury being the younger man with a proven 12 round engine is a test for real Heavyweights but to a blown up Middleweight who is 6" shorter and at least 60/70lbs lighter on the day with a 6" reach deficit i feel its a stretch too far. Anyway we may never get this far if Joshua pulls off a miracle, and wins the rematch.

Funny enough the same thing happens to southpaws, in the rare case they fight another southpaw they tend to be really out of their element. I know that its not the same but a very notable example is conor macgregor, half his arsenal is gone against a southpaw(and its the good half). I believe Hagler had a lot of sucess against hearns by switching to southpaw for long periods of their bout too

@@myboxingcoach In my previous gym at some point we had something like 7 southpaws, with 3 of them being competitive enough that they could provide excellent sparring for me (I'm orthodox).
