There is a group of great men, a select few for which limits never applied. This is the speed society, forever united by a code of bravery, and forever remembered for their accomplishments. From test pilots to racecar drivers, they all shared a love for muscle cars and their contributions to technological development made cars like the SRT Viper the powerful beasts they are today. On this episode of World's Fastest Car Show, Justin takes a trip to an airplane graveyard in the new SRT Viper to pay homage to the spirits of test pilots and innovators of the past.

Glad you like it and, to be honest, our unique format is for a shorter show than most others. Someone famous once said they were writing a long letter because they lacked the time to write a short one; that's kind of like WFCS-- it took a lot of work to get a story across in four minutes! But maybe our episodes will get a bit longer as the season develops! JB

Great to hear your thoughts. For us, it's always about what we like in the car, and the Viper is part super-car/part muscle car and all driver's car. We have to be careful not to engage in challenges that are too Top Gear in style, as we have 1% of their budget! But we will give it a go! JB

idk what people are complaining about, Justin Bell is hilarious! that intro cracked me up. If you ask me, we need more "pointless" car shows. What, you just want to watch car reviews all the time? I say more of this!

Not sure what's with all the Justin hate. I mean, seriously, guys... he's not nearly as bad as some of the other hosts they've cycled through. In fact, I sort of like Justin's reviews, especially when he's paired with someone to bounce off of such as Jonny or Angus. I think the show needs a little fine tuning, but it was a decent first effort. Keep it up, MT. (That all being said, do you think you could steal Chris Harris away from Drive...?)

It's great to see WFCS and the SRT Viper back in fine form! The Viper is still one of those rare, raw, unashamed cars that brings a lot of fun and excitement to the road! Absolutely brilliant footage of the car too, i'm loving all the new camera angles and brilliant presenting from Justin :)

Viper, like the Corvette, is a “sports car”. Not a muscle car... muscle cars were the big V8s stuffed into things like Chevelles and Barracudas, cars that were allergic to corners. A sports car can handle road racing, as the Viper and modern Corvettes were intended to do.

So many people talk crap on the Viper because it's not a proper super car. As far as I'm concerned this has every Ferrari and Lamborghini outdone. Why? Because the Viper will get driven. It's an extremely fast car that looks good doesn't cost a fortune and the owners will actually put miles on them instead of letting them sit in the garage for months at a time.

It's big, has two seats, is relatively comfy, has a large V10, and is really jolly fast. It ticks all the GT boxes. It even looks like one. It's not as refined as one would like from a GT car, but I was happy enough driving it cross country. I just wish it revved a bit more...

Believe me I know. My father won it FIVE times. I have been there 34 times and raced there 11 times. We lead overall for 12 hours in the McLaren F1 in 1995, finishing third overall. I won in Class in 1998. Mario Andretti has said he would swap any number of his major titles for ONE Le Mans win. Its a big one to be a part of.

Maybe both? Merriam-Webster: muscle car: any of a group of American-made 2-door sports coupes with powerful engines designed for high-performance driving. Merriam-Webster: sports car: a low small usually 2-passenger automobile designed for quick response, easy maneuverability, and high-speed driving. It's kinda both but leans towards muscle, so if "American-made" means "Made in America", then it's kinda both. But if "American-made" means "Not owned by Fiat" then it's only a sports car.

I feel petty for those who don't like the Viper XD They don't understand the purpose of it. I'm glad the Viper is still alive and better than ever. I've been a fan since the concept back in 1989. If they offered me a Lamborghini Aventador, a Ferrari 458 or a Porsche 911 GT3 over a Viper, I would take them, sell them, get a Viper of each gen and be happy for the rest of my life. And guess what, I still have spare :D

Absolutely, i personally am not a big fan, but to ignore Ferrarl's race heritage is wrong. That said America is relatively new to the track racing scene, and with what Viper and Corvette have acheived on the track, breaking and holding records world wide, i think they deserve more respect from the racing community even if their not a top pick

Buying a car that journalists test drove is worse than buying a rental car. Journalists THINK they can drive properly but wind up screwing up the car they are driving. It isn't theirs so no thought of not trashing car is given. How many Porsche Carrera GTs were totaled by journalists test driving? 5, before the car was even available at dealerships.

Gotta love the Viper. It's brash, brutish and completely raw, a muscle car in every sense of the word. While I love the refinement of the European brat pack, there's a real visceral appeal to the Viper. In the end, I don't think there's a driver in the world that would pass up an opportunity to thrash it around the track.

Hey mate - in many ways you are correct. BUT what happens in racing is like all sports - you can only win the race you are entered in. So in the 90's Dodge spent millions on racing internationally and winning the FIA GT World Championship and the GT2 category at Le Mans meant - mission accomplished. A bit like winning your division in soccer/football/baseball etc, or winning the womens marathon is still a victory even if not overall. Thanks for your enthusiastic comments - its all cool. JB

Everyone has their taste, I guess. If you love the Viper is because of more than performance or built quality. You love it for the same reason you would love a TVR. Yes, they might be trash, but they have so much soul. Soul that most modern, fast, quality built cars lack terribly.

Look I understand there's a whole bunch of Viper fanboys that are gonna jump down my throat for having my own opinion but for me the new look is just plain. The hood and front bumper look like a body kit off the web and the back bumper doesn't really have any styling at all. Honestly if it wasn't for the core cab area of this car keeping the classic viper shape I would think it was a kit car and not a viper at all. Hate all you want. You have your opinion, and I have mine.

Aye, but, Le Mans is all about the win, always has been. No one remembers the other guys. Le Mans is more than a mere race, it's THE test in car racing. If you're not the actual first man across the line, you've essentially failed it. The GT fields are regarded as there to provide some light entertainment, and obstacles for the P1 cars to hit, or not. To those involved, it's a massive achievement to even finish the race, let alone grab a podium spot in your class, but not to the outside world.

Then why have Dodge (or rather, SRT) gone to such great, and semi successful lengths to make it more refined, more usable and generally better in every way? Forget the history, this is the first American car I've ever even considered buying. A Lotus Exige is a raw, no interference driving experience. Un dulled even by fat tyres and large amounts of power. The Viper is well beyond the territory of pure thrills, and not refined enough for it either. But it now has potential as something else.

Motortrend you guys have some great ideas for shows but you have writers and racers hosting the shows. You need an entertainer who can drive. A man who tell a joke cleanly while power parking or a man who'll grab someone's attention while drifting around a track, and I may just be that man. All you have to do is give me a shot. 9 of 10 people that read this will think I'm full of crap, but I assure you my combined love for carbon fiber and comedy will sky rocket you guys past Top Gear

It represents the overall build quality of a car. Look at the gaps between body panels. If I see a car where the manifacturer doesn't care about huge error margins on those gaps, it tells me that they don't use much precision on other parts of the car as well.

You have to remember, the Viper just broke apart from Dodge and can only get better from here on. I mean, look at the big jump it made from the last gen. It already has an 8.4 inch nav screen with a huge load of technology and it also has the same brand leather as Ferarri. And with 640 hp, it's just as fast, if not, faster than some of those cars you mentioned.

For those comparing this to Ferrari, they're both owned by Fiat. And though the ZR1 maybe a bit better handling, the interior is garbage seeing how much you're paying.... That said, you're not a real car guy if you only care about brand.

Which is a shame. Because this car has the potential to be genuinely good. If it dropped a little weight, and a few litres off the engine, and focussed more on being a good car, rather than a fast car, it would be seriously good. If it were sorted properly, I'd certainly think long and hard about buying one over a European equivalent.

It's a pre-release press car. It's probably clocked a few tens of thousands of miles on it already, not to mention the prat is driving it off road which can shake any body panel loose on a vehicle of this type.
