Ryan T said exactly what I have always felt was truth=LIES about Garak's so called Cardassian connections. They were just a fake lie of innocent lives to further GUILT Sisko into damn the consequences innocents war casualties make this plan happen.

I always saw this episode as a evolution of the Sisko character from the earlier seasons with his loyalty and honor being questioned when dealing with the maque and the traitors to starfleet to the path he goes down in this episode was always fascinating to me.

My take is that Sisko never forgave himself for what the war has turned him into. In a pale moonlight, he said he can live with it, but how many times do we lie to ourselves to keep us going, at least for our loved ones. However, any chance at ending his own existence, he was gonna take it, especially one that is heroic and can benefit others. That's why Sisko didn't even have a second thought pushing Dukat and himself into the fire pit.

The ironic thing about Sisko giving Bashir permission to hand over biogenic materials to make a potential biogenic weapon is not new territory for Sisko... the only other ep more dark than this one for Sisko was when he unleashed Trilithium torpedoes into an atmosphere of a planet that contained Humans and Maquis living on the Planet, to get Eddington to give himself up and stop the Maquis once and for all

The rebels themselves RELEASED BIO WEAPONS TO GET OF THE CARDASSIANS WITH NO WARNING LIKE SISKO gave them.
@MedalionDS9
@MedalionDS9 2 жыл бұрын
@@klyanadkmorr Yes, but does that warrant the same thing being done to them? SIsko destroyed the entire ecosphere of a planet and may have killed a bunch of people who may not have gotten out in time of his attacks... that is not an appropriate response from a Starfleet Captain, let alone righteous Human being.
@klyanadkmorr
@klyanadkmorr 2 жыл бұрын
@@MedalionDS9 Canon Sisko KILLED NO ONE but made the planet they stole from the Cardassians as unliveable as the one THEY poisoned & KILLED thousands. You and those trying to equate what Sisko did to force their hand to STOPPING being killers as a moral dilemma is a joke and sadly misplaced and only done to judge and make a black capt somehow not Picard perfect white guy. Sisko leaving the situation is WHAT? A fantasy high minded those terrorist left alone and not stopped as the ethical choice? You saying what Sisko did as being bad is non sense as they chose to live and move into regions known to be in conflict with the Federation. The Federation was GIVING THEM planets to move to.
@MedalionDS9
@MedalionDS9 2 жыл бұрын
@@klyanadkmorr Starfleet would never authorize or condone the use of that kind of Force to make planets uninhabitable of another Sovereign power, even for terrorists, by using Biogenic weapons to get their point across ever. It is absolutely dark as fuck, and the fact it was never truly addressed after all that is a glaring omission in an otherwise fantastic show, and your reasoning thus far, has not changed my mind on that. And the fact you had to jump to playing it about race about a Black Captain vs a white Captain Picard is HILARIOUS because of the times we live in...everything is turned into a race debate, when I never brought up his race once in my discussion... you don't know anything about my views or my fave characters... you are jumping to conclusions in some weird way to shut down conversation like everything else has been about in popular media for the past 10-15 years. It won't work on me my friend because you are picking at bad faith arguments. I am condemning the action, not the character... I love Sisko and DS9, they are my fave Trek and Captain respectively. Learn to argue your points better than going for weird reach arguments.

Probably one of my favorite episodes of Star Trek ever. Was given a chance in the early 2000s to see him (Avery Brooks) live at a convention and it was a memorable experience. Always enjoy people discussing this episode. Andrew Robinson is one of my favorite character actors and his presence is always a plus.

Having the Dominion invade Betazed was a master stroke. Everybody that watched this after TNG had positive or negative impressions of the Trois, but you darn knew about the planet and how horrific this was. I read some in the production wanted it to be Vulcan, but others said it would be too far, and I agree. Had the Dominion taken Vulcan, Starfleet would have certainly fallen back to protect the most core Federation worlds.
