What's up, gang? I realized it's been over a year since I made my video about all my calisthenics equipment for home. A lot of the equipment from that video has been tucked away and I don't really use it anymore, so I decided to make this video as an update to show you what I'm using for my workouts lately.
Real quick, before I forget...

You only really need rings for calisthenics. A lot of people are aware of that. So I suppose I could’ve just shot the pair of rings dangling in my garage and kept this video to about 10 seconds in length. But then you wouldn’t know how much fun I’ve been having on my new set of parallel bars.
So what I’ve done instead is made an update to my original equipment video that I shot last year. I share how I’ve refined the equipment I’m using and explain why I'm using what I use now.
In a nutshell, my indoor workouts are all with BaseBlocks equipment: the BaseBar, B-Bars and BaseBench. I also took out my old dumbbells recently to start deadlifting and squatting heavy again. Then, when I workout in my garage, I like to use rings and parallettes.
I hope this video gives you ideas, inspiration and any other sort of help you've been looking for. The holidays are quickly approaching so enjoy them and don't forget to include plenty of calisthenics too! :)
-Ryan

Personally I feel calisthenics training gives the best bang-for-your-buck deal for your upper body. Whereas weight training is a must for your legs. I'm not necessarily against lifting weights for your upper body by any means. But as compromise of making use of both calisthenics and weightlifting, calisthenics for the upper body and weightlifting for the lower body is a damn good plan to follow.

I am glad to see that most people that I consider “smart” come to the very same conclusion: you don’t need a lot of equipment to successfully train your body. My “must” are rings, bar, and elastic bands (I can dip between a table and the window frame). Above all, I can carry my whole equipment wherever I need: all in all it's less that 2 kg. Take care. :-)

Oh, good shout-out on Powerblocks. I owned a set for 20 years that I used when I worked as a travel nurse around the country. I luckily traded them in for an expanded set with barbell attachment right before the pandemic happened. I was using the pull-up clamps, but I've since switched (still love their concept tho). I've been using an adjustable pull-up bar that does not need to be screwed into a door frame. Instead, when weight is applied, it wedges itself tighter into position. I use my rings off of the bar for pushups and pull-ups, hangs, and holds (depending on the height I quickly set the bar to.

I would have bought a baseblock big bar if it hadn't those rounded shoulders. What I need is only some freestanding thing to hang my gymnastic rings from. A bar slightly less than 250 cm (our standard roof height) would do. But not if the ring straps slides down the sloping shoulders. I like to have the straps wide when doing pushups in rings! That my main use of a pullup bar. But I also do hanging leg raises in it. And I like to have it high enough to hang straight without touching the floor! When doing leaning exercises in rings, the straps aren't straight down, so it has to have a long base on a freestanding pullup bar to handle angled load. An perhaps the slight swing when doing hanging leg raises too. I will eventually build the perfect freestanding pullup bar. But I would buy one if good enough. Until then I have my gym 150 m from home, so I manage... but not minus the gym, yet!

Rings are the ultimate piece of workout equipment, change my mind. There is near infinite variability, you can hit any upper body work and core, plus they remain challenging even for intermediate/advances with just bodyweight, and are great for many skills. Best of all, the world becomes your gym. Contrary to what this video says, you can always find somewhere nearby to hang up a pair of rings, I guarantee it.

@@dipsaha7792 Well I meant it was a “home gym” :) Like look up “calisthenics home gym” on KZfaq or Google tell me how many of them are wrong. If they’re all using it wrong, I’m in the majority.

Ngl their products are pricey yet worth the investment. Comparatively to a yearly gym subscription, that You have to drive to and deal with annoying dudebros type. I have the OG baseblock. I brought them back all the way from Australia. I’m about to invest into the basebench coz them 🍑 needs to stay on point. Cheers for the review and all the best.

How do you exercise your legs?
@MinusTheGym
@MinusTheGym 3 жыл бұрын
For the longest time I was only doing variations of bodyweight squats and lunges (including plyometric versions, like jump squats) and pistol squats. But then I got the BaseBench and started working on Nordic curls and that made me realize how much work my hamstrings needed, so I recently brought out my old Powerblock dumbbells and now I’m back to doing weighted squats and deadlifts too.

Can you hang the rings on the b bars?
@MinusTheGym
@MinusTheGym 3 жыл бұрын
Yes - I’ve seen Simonster do that with wooden rings. But BaseBlocks also released their own aluminum rings that are a carabiner-style design so can hang from a bar using straps or attach directly to the bar. Check it out: www.baseblocks.fit/pages/the-rings

Is doing 100 pushups every day ok or do you recommend a day rest in between?
@DarkVortexSoul
@DarkVortexSoul 3 жыл бұрын
Push up everyday is not good, doing push up everyday doesn't mean your muscle will grow bigger. Your muscle is developed on REST DAY not on workout day. Doing it everyday certainly will cause injury because your muscle is not resting enough
@TheFunky57
@TheFunky57 3 жыл бұрын
In the grand scheme of things, 100 push ups a day is a pretty low impact affair (especially if you do 10 sets of 10 throughout the day kinda thing). HOWEVER, it is something that requires you to work up to that (mobility issues may stress tendons and ligaments in ways that they are not meant to be). Long story short, if you can do 100 push ups throughout the day, with PERFECT FORM, and without pain or impingements, go for it. Listen to your body, and don't lie to yourself (if you're in pain or tired, stop and reassess why that is, like any exercise really). I get what Vincent is saying below for sure. But we as humans are certainly capable of handling 100 push ups a day if done properly and safely. N.B. I'm not a personal trainer or a physio therapist. This is just one man's opinion on them matter. Best of luck and get after it brother;)

I do still have my weight vest but haven’t been using it regularly. It’s quite bulky and I’m just not entirely happy with it so I’m on the lookout for a slimmer vest. I saw BaseBlocks makes a smaller one. I might get that.

Can you just use rings instead of B bars and Base bar?
@MinusTheGym
@MinusTheGym 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it’ll be more challenging, but the rings are definitely most versatile. IMO, the only drawback of rings is that it can be tough to find a good place to hang them. I had to buy a large I-beam mounting pull up bar just for that purpose. Ended up costing me almost $200.

Those things hang on architraves. There's no code for fixing architraves. They are usually just fixed with a few brads or glued to the plasterboard. I wouldn't use those things.

I'd like some disclosure here. Are you sponsored by any of the equipment makers you recommend? Did they give you the equipment for free? That kind of thing.
@MinusTheGym
@MinusTheGym 3 жыл бұрын
I receive LOTS of free fitness equipment from various companies. What I've shown in this video is only a small fraction of what I've received. And this has been going on since I hit about 30k subs or so. So yes, virtually everything I've shown on my channel since the early days (aside from my first dip station and doorway pull up bar) have been shipped to me free by manufacturers to try it out as I like. What I do is vet the equipment by trying it out in my workouts for a few weeks and only feature it on the channel if: (1) I want to include it in my regular training and (2) I feel it's worth the price tag they're putting on it. I'm not sponsored in the sense that I get paid to create videos using the equipment. That's never happened and probably never will. However, like all KZfaq creators, I join affiliate programs whenever possible. This means people who use my links or discount codes to purchase the equipment are supporting me and my channel because I get a small percentage of the sale. So for example, if you decide the B-Bars look like a great fit for your needs and you buy them with my 10% off code, you save 10% on the normal price and I receive that 10% as a thank you from BaseBlocks for driving the sale. I hope that clarifies it!
