The silverado badge was from the factory. The trim level was “silverado”

Yep...Chevy recycles their truck names in a weird way. Silverado used to be the top trim level in those years, and Cheyenne was the base model...back in the early '70s Cheyenne was the top trim level. Then they changed Silverado to mean all of their full size trucks, regardless of trim. I've kind of lost track of their naming system, so I don't know what their trim levels are now. You'd think they would want to kind of keep the names of their trim levels the same over the years just to avoid confusion, but maybe they want to confuse their customers, idk.

Silverado was a trim level, and those headers aren't stock. The stock ones are some thick heavy cast iron manifolds. Other than that, yeah its a pretty good truck. Ive had a 94 and currently got a 92 that I've built up.

@@eyellgeteven9928 W/T, LS, LT, LTZ. Unless the trim doesn't match, any true Chevy truck guy or gal would know that somebody didn't just stick the Silverado badge on there. I think they change the names around to whatever sounds fanciest and what will sell (of course). Worst example of a recycled name for Chevy is "Blazer" in my opinion.

I am the original proud owner of a 99 Chevy Tahoe with the 5.7 engine. It just clocked 580,000 miles. Other than some minor repairs (fuel pumps, water pumps, radiator) there has never been a problem. It looks and sounds like the day I drove it off the show room floor. I change the oil every 5,000 miles with a good synthetic oil. Best vehicle ever!

not the original owner but just clocked my 98 S10 at 355k, had to replace fuel and water pump and brakes, but otherwise it runs like a dream. I've abused this thing in the woods, on the road, in the mud, absolutely nothing can take it down

Chevy (or GMC) never put headers on CK trucks . I know, because I was working at GM dealerships all through the 90s. The manifolds were all cast iron. They were excellent trucks though.

@@calbrit54 I can attest to this. I removed my cast iron manifolds about 2 years ago and added some stainless steel ceramic coated long tube headers on my 95 step side

I am a little ahead of you; 1993 Buick Roadmaster 249xxx miles Same engine, transmission and rear axle as your truck! They have quite reputation for going over 300K miles.

@@Jp-gc6bh I don't consider mine a beater either. I have a 2002 Silverado ext cab, long bed 4X4 Z71. It's got 341k on it. Still looks great. Bleeds a little oil, but still runs great.

Automakers are trying the build larger more luxurious trucks, while attempting to save weight. It is difficult to accomplish both. The government safety, emissions and fuel economy regulations complicate the newer models. Profits from trucks help subsidize sales of low profit models.

Silverado was actually the top trim on the C/K pickups back in the day. And YES! GM actually knew how to build pickup trucks back in 1994.

95 was a Change though, my neighbour has a 94 and I have a 95, I figured I'd ask to grab a couple relays off his broken down 94 c1500 and throw them in my 95 k1500, turns out the relay box is in the cab on a 94 because when he popped his hood i didn't see anything but an engine, and the usuals

I've had a lot of these trucks and all lasted over 350k on originals engines,5.7 350 and a 454. Silverado is the trim level and C denotes 2 wheel drive and K denotes a 4 wheel drive truck

Silverado is a trim package. If the badge said cheyanne it usually has black bumper plain seats.

Yes, it was the top trim, Scottsdale was mid, Cheyenne at the bottom. The confusion is that now even the cheapest fleet version is called "Silverado".

That's because from 1975-'98 Silverado was an optional trim package in 1999 the actual truck model was called the Silverado. But yes this truck is a Chevy c1500 Silverado package.

Being about 5 yrs old I remember my dad pulling up in his 94 1500 2wd. Silver with blue ghost flames and a cowl hood, SS wheels...I think that's why I like cars . And years later it was my first vehicle, drove it for 6 or 7 years.. then I put a restored frame under it, professionally fixed the cab, still has the original 350 and faded paintjob. Love these trucks shes taken me to kindergarten and college...

True story for you, Scotty! My neighbor got cancer and died. (Very sad) A few years later, his wife traded in their Lexus SUV for a new Jeep Cherokee. I asked her why and she said for better driving in our Colorado snow. I told her she should've sold me the Lexux. A few months ago, she told me her "check engine" light came on (the Cherokee is only 2 years old) so I told her to go to the dealer and pray it's covered under warranty. It's NOT and they want $4,000 to fix it. I told her to get rid of it NOW.....she just came home with another new Lexus...thank God!!

@@tomtheplummer7322 My guess that check engine light was no big deal and the dealer is trying to take a widow to the cleaners! Vast majority of check engine lights are emissions related. Sometimes hooking up a scanner and clearing code is all that is needed. Oxygen sensor, loose fuel cap few other things all cheap. Then emissions stuff is suppose to be covered by Federal mandated warranties that go on forever with no mileage limitations (according to Scotty).

What I've heard is, the reason the transmission tend to go bad is because everyone is hauling in overdrive instead of regular drive

Probably most of it. The 700r4/4l60 and 4l60e are all not known for their towing capabilities. 3/4 clutches are a weak point of these trans, same with the sun shell stripping.

I ran my 88 and 93 GMC Sierras in overdrive, and fortunately, the original transmissions held up just fine. Over 200,000 on the 88, and 165,000 on the 93. Each had the 350. Drove those trucks rather conservatively and had the transmission fluids changed regularly, which helped.

Good video, Scotty. Southern Calif here, and I have a pristine '95 GMC Yukon with this same old-school cast-iron 350 with throttle body injection set-up. I now have 218k miles on its original engine and trans; both of which still haven't been rebuilt, or even as much as a valve cover removed since it left the Janesville, WI factory for shipment to California. Besides all the usual & customary maintenance, i.e. brakes, tires, exhaust, suspension components, cooling system, hoses, etc., this vehicle has been absolutely trouble-free and low-maintenance. I've considered selling it for a newer one, but always have a change-of-heart because it's been so good and faithful to me.

My brother had a '94 GMC C1500 long bed similar to the one in the video. He had over 450,000 miles on it, when the rear end went out. He could have installed a $90 rear end from Pull-a-Part, and he'd still be driving it, but he was ready for something new, so he junked it. It never burned any oil. It was a 5 speed manual transmission with the 4.3 litre V-6 and was made in Ft Wayne, Indiana.

Yes, they are the best, I know so from my '96 Chev 1500 4X4 ext cab, 5.0 V8, perfect, owned last 10 years, someone smashed me, now I have a '98. 5.7V8 same as my last one. The prices have gone up over the last two years. You could buy one decent for $2,000, now the same thing is $5,000 to $12,000 on average in Canadian dollars.. Yes, 500,000 is easy for these. You can buy all kinds of after markets for it. Such a comfortable reliable truck. You really know your stuff Scotty, thanks!

That Silverado badge is legitimate. It was chevy's upper trim package on the GMT400 generation trucks. My 94 has well over 300k miles and still looking and running great. And you're right about the 4L60e transmission. It's the weakest point, and really just due to a few small flaws that can be corrected before a failure, possibly avoiding a rebuild for a long time.

I love my '95 Silverado. It still looks pretty clean from a distance but after 26 years and 200,000 miles, everything is breaking on it. You've inspired me to keep it and just work on it to catch up to the problems. The motor still doesn't use any oil but I do have some leaks I need to fix. No problems yet out of the 4L60E but if I do, I'll buy a rebuild and keep driving it. I got it with 140k on it, 12 years ago. They are awesome trucks.

I agree they are keepers. Had the motor rebuilt at 250000. At 260012 now There goes the warranty. Never give up.

I got one. Bought it about 6 years ago, have done quite a few non motor repairs on it but did them all myself and pretty cheaply. Got the tranny rebuilt two years ago for $650-$700, it's worked perfect ever since. What's impressed me the most is the motor, at about 250k miles it still runs good as ever. Great trucks, also great for anyone who wants to do their own maintenance/repairs but isn't necessarily a mechanic.

That Silverado badge is for the trim level offered on the C/K trucks, it is not a badge from a modern Silverado. They also did not come with headers. They are fantastic trucks though, my favorite truck ever is the 88-98 Chevy/GMC C/K

I've got a 92 gmc Sierra same truck. Runs like a champ. Besides maintaining it properly I replaced the steering column the other day, I absolutely love this truck.

We own a gmc-97-k/1500, 5-speed, 5.7., factory rear posi. Last snowstorm, we pulled out 4 newer 4x4 vehicles stuck. 1990s and prior, AWESOME TRUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got my 96 Suburban K2500 7.4L a few years ago, price only $4000, $2400 after my trade in (99 Sierra 1500 with failed transmission), just needed fuel lines replaced. I put a new fuel pump in at the same time, because the tank had to come down anyway. I've put 27k miles on since, great truck. Pulls my 6500 pound trailer much better than the previous truck did.

So i own a 94 k1500 step side. Same engine, same 4l60e. Awesome truck pulled a 7000lb load with it this summer across state. These trucks are extremely tough, ill never sell it. This one scotty is showing is in better shape, AC don't work on mine but it has never left me walking even when hauling trailers.

I owned 2 C1500’s, a c3500, two GMT800’s, and a GMT900. The best year C series are 1990-1995. The c series were clearly superior trucks, and after the GMT900, I was done with GM. I miss the 454SS and 95 dually rclb the most of all of them.

Nice! I have a 97 Chevy Cheyenne 2500, 5.7L V8. 188,000 miles. Exterior, interior, engine and transmission all original and in great condition. Luckily it was passed down from one family member to another who understood the importance of regular maintenance. I really lucked out with this one!

My gramps got a 1994 K1500 Chevrolet Silverado with 411,927 miles on it and it's still the original engine. Been using it now for a month and it's such a great truck. Only thing I've noticed is it doesn't like to just sit in idle. I was at work sitting in the truck with the A/C on for like 45 minutes because of my break and I noticed it went slightly above the middle of the thermometer. Still needed maybe 4/10 left to reach the danger zone. All his interior is original and nothing has been rebuilt. It's my gramps proudest purchase

I’m from Canada. I drive a 1995 K1500 Suburban Starcraft conversion 400kms a day for my work as an owner operator courier driver. Been using it for about a year and can honestly say they are very durable and reliable trucks. Only got 345,000 kms but hasn’t given me a single issue on the road. It’s my best friend most days, and I trust taking it anywhere.

my first vehicle was a 1991 gmc sierra it had 300k miles on it when i sold it and the guy drove it another 3 years lol. they were solid trucks.

I live in Canada and I searched for one of these beauties that wasn't rusted out for several years, (very tough to find). Finally found one tucked away in a barn for the past 12-15 years. No rust and only 93000KM, ( defiantly a keeper) a couple bruises but practically mint inside and out. I have a couple videos on my channel showing it off. Thanks for posting this video.

Grew up in a Silverado like this. It was my first vehicle. Loved that truck. Hearing that chime when you start it up brings back all kinds of nostalgia. Aches my heart seeing that beauty just sit at my parents place. Did a lot of crazy stuff in that truck haha.

I bought a 95 chevy 1500 w a 4.3 w 200k miles for 1100. I had it for 5 years, put on 75k miles and scrapped with it. I still miss it.

I’ve got a ‘95 K1500 W/ the 5.7 TBI motor (also has the “southern comforts package” and is two tone blue, 177k miles currently. Bought it for $2k even, and I’m not kidding it’s as solid as a rock. Zero oil burning, smooth but firm transmission shifts, plenty of torque, 3.73 gears w/ G80 locker, Single cab, step side bed. and better yet, it still gets 16.5 MPG highway @ 80mph and 265/75 tires, and that’s with no O2 sensor hooked up LOL. Zero signs of weakness so far. My dad has a ‘90 C1500 with well over 650k miles, it’s on its 2nd motor, 2nd transmission, and 2nd rear end but hey if you divide that by 2, that’s about 325k miles for some of the drivetrain if not more. some of the best trucks money can buy, plus the value of them are going up steadily. They’re the next “square body Chevys”

Got my 97 Suburban for 1,000. Replaced the battery, cats, cam sensor, some radiator hoses and changed the transmission filter and its running like a dream and passes smog with about 2000 invested total

GMT400 (88-98).. best truck Chevy ever made. They were also produced in Flint (as mine was). Just walked in the dealer and ordered one in 89.. Still have it... and always will. Easy to work on and fix. As an instant classic, it's well supported by the after market. Hot GMT400's right now are the suburbans. Get em while you can.

1999-2007 Silverados with the Vortec V8s are pretty solid too. I know plenty of folks that have them with over 300k miles.

The Silverado badge is most likely original. Back then it was a trim package and not a model name. The base trucks were called Cheyenne WT and had black grilles, bumpers, mirrors and very plain interiors. The Cheyenne had gray trim. The Scottsdale was the mid tier trim and Silverado was the cowboy Cadillac of the day.

Just purchased a 94 Suburban k1500 for $1500. Needs paint, carpet and a few odds and ends. This is the third 88-98 gm truck I have had. I agree that they are solid, reliable vehicles. Being a diesel mechanic I am looking at swapping the 5.7 for a duramax or Cummins at some point. Showing much love for the gmt400!! Well technically my Sub is a gmt425 🙂

I have a 1996 GMC 2500K HD 4WD with134k with a 7.4 l monster. Great truck!! Bought for 3500 and put about 500 to do minor repairs. Everything works well. Same color as the one you showed. 8 foot bed and this truck moves!!

The 98 k2500 I got has been an amazing truck for me the past 7-8 years. Bought it for $600 then drove it home and checked it over and changed the oil. Took 2 years before I had any issues, mainly the engine spun a rod bearing since the previous owner wasn’t exactly nice to it(only cost me $250 to get another motor and rebuild it since we have parts laying around from building motors), for example from what I can tell it had a fifth wheel hitch that wasn’t tied to the frame. It jack knifed after pulling the bolts through the bed, it also has a bullet hole behind the driver door. Came with a sbc and a 4l80e. Best $600 I’ve ever spent

Silverado was a trim package that was pretty common, along with the z71, they didn't come with factory headers, most common issues are ball joints, wheel bearings, door handles, and the transmission. Other than that they are basically bullet proof

My 94 Chevy c1500 Silverado trim is my favorite possession. It a regular cab step side. 5.7, original metallic teal paint looks great. Even has the ground effects like yours. Glad my Grandpa had it twin piped back in the day.

The transfer case on my 98 k1500 was ripped loose, drive it home (hanging...)& bolted it on with steel struts from the hardware store, still runs like a champ

My home town is there and when I visit it's like a time machine back to the 70's. Every where you see Pontiac Grand Ams, Malibus , Buicks, Fords ....but very few Honda/Toyota/European cars.

Tennessee has no state income taxes and property taxes are among the lowest in the U.S. so rural people can enjoy living there. Houston can be spendy, but drive towards east Texas and its about the same as rural Tennessee. Memphis is much different than Nashville, which is much different than Knoxville or Chattanooga. If you drove from far northeast Tennessee to the southwest corner, its actually less distance than to the Canadian border. Tennessee is a beautiful state with varied geography and accents also vary.

@@Briandkd life is pretty good here in Chattanooga. Median income is around 44k, and the cost of living is low too! We have fiber internet and beautiful rolling hills. There are people with very nice cars around here, but plenty of decent looking under 10 year old cars too. My Dad is retired, just paid cash for his wife/my mom to have a 2017 es 350, but he drives a 2001 Tundra. No reason to get rid of it! I think Scotty is still building clientele in the new area, and he will have more appeasing cars for your eyes.

My first vehicle was a 1997 Tahoe (2 door), pretty much same chassis and engine and it was extremely reliable and great to do some towing with. The only downfall was that it caught the rot bug.

My buddy had an old chevy ck with 350,000 miles on it original everything before it finally died. The motor still ran but the transmission went. We beat the ever living hell out of that truck, that's what made me a chevy fan initially. Obviously gm has strayed very far from that motto.

Got a 2004 Silverado with 140k miles. Bought it brand new. Had some suspension and other work done on it that cost five grand. Compared to the cost of a new one that's cheap. It will out live me.
