I've been more of a car guy than a truck guy. My one exception was taking over payments of an old Ford Ranger from a cousin that grew up in my family. He was going into the Marines and just needed to get rid of the truck. It was a stick 4 banger. That thing was reliable and always easy to get fixed. It was a regular cab, which suited me fine back then. It got great gas mileage. Unfortunately, I could only go fast when going downhill. The baby engine tried. Nevertheless, it was great. It probably could have lasted forever, and maybe I'd still be driving it if not for someone turning into me at an intersection. Because it was a cheap Ranger with a ton of miles, it was worth like a 6 pack. So it got salvaged. But I still have fond memories of that little guy. 🥹🥹🥹🥹

If you can actually see the engine and have enough room to get to everything relatively easily, you know it is an older vehicle and will cost less to work on. I walked into a shop where they were working on a much newer pickup and they had the cab on the car lift above the pickup and the front fenders pulled off. I asked why and was told that they had to replace the head gaskets and in order to get to the top of the engine to work on it they would either have to pull the engine out of the vehicle, which was the harder option, or remove the cab and fenders. That tells me that they really really do not want the average person to be able to work on their own vehicles so they have to bring it in to the dealer so they can keep their shop busy.

the old ford rangers were good trucks. were built on the old bronco 2 chassis. but with a ranger be aware of the steering setup. those trucks were notoriously bad on upper and lower ball joints (pretty much every ford truck and van from the time period) also they can also have camber and caster issues that need addressing so you don't waste your front tires in a few months...

Most dealerships and auto repair shops rip people off all the time facts. I know a guy who’s truck was showing a code 401 for egr value bad. He took it in and they charged him over 150 dollars to replace it and that’s all they did even though the holes were plugged up bad. So after a couple weeks his truck had the same code back on. I took off his throttle body and cleaned it out real good unplugged the port holes cleaned his new egr valve out checked it to make sure it was working properly with a vacuum test put it all back together and it is doing just fine that was 3 months ago no more codes. They knew it was plugged up but because it was showing the 401 code for egr valve they just replaced it and sent him on his way.

Good point on the Toyota frame replacement!…I had a 2008 Tacoma SR5 4x4 with a V6 and a 6Spd manual that I bought used on the east coast. I got a good deal on it because it had rusty frame and when I read online that they extended the frame warranty to TEN years, I called the 1-800 customer service # and they told me to take it in to a local (Seattle) dealership for and inspection. Because the it had a small “quarter sized” hole in the frame, they offered to take my truck apart and give me a completely NEW frame! TOYOTA stands behind their trucks!!!👌👍😉

It had made in Japan power steering pump, manual speed gearbox, alternator and starter was all made in Japan as well as many other parts. Even the heavy duty brake pads it came with, brake lines, etc... where all made in Japan. Those days are one now. @@danielcarrillo1057, exactly. Not as much power as the 3v, but you can always save up money to swap a Lightning 5.4 with the supercharger and make almost as much hp and torque as the new 5.0 Coyote engines.

You know, don't be afraid of the old 351 f250s either, especially if you can find one with a manual. Honestly, the old f150s don't be afraid of those either and I'm talking about with the Five-O, but you be better up getting one with the 300 cubic in straight 6. They're pig on gas but they run forever and they have to work for days torque for days.... If you want to go know where you can I don't suggest it but 97 to 2003 F-150 but get the 4.2 L V6 that motor runs forever or the 4.6 L two valve

I can still see rusty D21-chasis and this gen on the road from time to time. In the Philippines the Nissan Frontier/Navarra are the same thing. The Sentra used to be popular up to the late 90s, but when they renamed the model into the "Sylphy" sales became very low. I've only seen less than 10 since the recent decade in two provinces.

I had an ‘88 Nissan D21 Hardbody 4x4 5 speed 4 cylinder from my dad he bought new with 9 miles on it from the dealership We both put around 475k miles on that thing before I broke the transmission by hauling a lot and way heavier than what it was probably rated for up and down the mountains of NC, everything was all original parts except a new clutch and a radiator I assume both from having to climb those mountains so much. Some guy offered us way more than we thought it was worth (back in 2002) and he put a new transmission in it and is still driving it around today. Best truck I’ve ever owned!

My 2000 F-150 (4.2 V6, 5-spd) has 324k miles. Replaced the clutch 3 times (the real weak spot in that year's design as the throwout bearing is integrated with everything!), all-new peripheral "perishibles" (alternator, water pump, starter & power steering pump, coil plugs and wires) once. But otherwise, it's half-way back from going to the moon! Wish 1st was a granny though. Otherwise, it's been a really good truck!

I got an ‘07 f-150 super cab 4x4 with the 4.6 v8, the transmission shifts and the engine starts everytime, she’s just got rust. I bought it from family and payed 1000 for her earlier this year with under 80k miles on it. I’m using it as both my daily driver and a work truck.
